FFXIV Heavensward Thornmarch (HARD) Guide for All Roles

You wrote that this was a guide for all roles, then mocked healers by saying the debuff would be ignored, didn't show what the debuff looked like and brought up a massive graphic to block the debuff bar when it was applied so it was very difficult to see what the debuff looked like. Later you said what the tanks should be doing, then said what the DPS should be doing, and promptly ended the video afterward. I found the information I needed by pausing the video and squinting real hard, but I would have appreciated a closeup on that debuff's icon so I'd know what to Esuna.

Heya, sorry you didn't find the information you were after so easily. I didn't focus a ton on what healers should specifically be doing because there's honestly not that much to say other than 'just heal people so they don't die'. The 'Thrown for a loop' debuff is so unimportant that it's actually barely worthy of being mentioned - which is why I covered it the way that I did. When you do the fight, unless you're really focusing to watch out for it, you probably wont notice it at all. There are a good number of ways for people to instantly die and with so many players and enemies all over the place it'll be extremely hard to tell if an ignored Thrown for a loop kills someone (the debuff only lasts 6 seconds anyway). I will always highlight the most important things to focus on, usually with a 'so listen up' beforehand, so rest assured that if I don't make a big deal out of something you don't need to worry that much about it! That said, I wasn't attempting to mock healers by saying it'll be ignored, it's just a combination of the very small danger it poses combined with so much else going on that requires attention (moving out of aoes, healing people who don't move out of them etc), that there's just no point trying to watch out for it. It's not super common to be comboed to death like I was in the video but if you look at the time between when I got the debuff, and when I died, you'll see it's such a short amount of time that it's unrealistic to expect healers to pay so much attention to this mechanic anyway - when again, there's so much else going on that is more important. You've probably done the encounter by now I suppose but I hope that helps to clear things up!

Also, me mentioning that it can get esuna'ed off was supposed to be more of a bonus bit of information about the debuff rather than something healers should focus on :D (Why does KZbin always put huge gaps between my paragraphs? Looking over the clip now, even if someone did esuna it off of me, I would have died anyway as there wasn't enough time to escape that aoe. There's less than a second between when I start moving back to the paladin, and when the huge aoe fades (which means i'll be taking the hit). (Looks like not leaving a space didn't work. Back to leaving a huge space then I guess. Why can't KZbin not be silly?)

Probably, but dying there didn't matter anyway really as the encounter isn't that hard. Quick combat rez, brush the dirt of me knees and press on.

Yeah this is much easier now these days. Memento Moogle isn't even a killer anymore (at least I've not wiped once yet even when our DPS focus the boss).

So, it's been 6 years since this guide was made, and I just went through this... mission, for the first time. It seems that as long as everyone has a grasp of their job, you can kill each of the moogles as they appear in the first phase, like, no problem. In the second phase after the king is summoned, the moogles aren't actual combatants, as far as I could tell. They just drop in, make a nuisance of themselves and then disappear. I was off-tanking and I was just working as a DPS, mostly for this fight. Got a little hairy at the end when one attack knocked out both the healers, but the king was low enough on health that the party was able to finish it.

I had to do this for the first (and second) time as a newbie tank and it's probably one of the most annoying/frustrating trials I've done, esp when we had mentors (MT and a heal) but nobody marked til the 3rd wipe and I hadn't an idea of the kill order/what to pick up as OT while MT was yelling orders at me. Your guide is very helpful so I can at least try and memorize the order but their confusing names really don't help lmao. Honestly dread getting this trial as a new tank.

If you can snag the OT role then this fight is GGEZ. All you need to do is grab the bright blue paladin and the red warrior and dance for the rest of the fight. Also me making sure I say the colours of the moogles before their class in this video as a memory aid has worked a fuckin treat because I know the paladin is bright blue and the warrior is red all these years later writing this comment :D Also even the MT role is quite easy. The only moogles you can actually tank are the paladin and warrior. If you're the MT all you gotta do is pick up the boss once all the moogles respawn and take him off to the side somewhere and GG.

Out in the wild, you may see some variation in the order of the marks, i.e. you may see the Rogue marked 4 and the Archer marked 5, or the Warrior marked 1st Ignore and the Paladin marked 2nd Ignore. This is fine, people just learned a slightly different order. As long as the general kill order is Casters>Bard>Remaining DPS>King (you can ignore the tanks, although most groups will kill them last before the king), then everything will be fine. Also, the reason the off tank wants to tank the Warrior and Paladin away from everything else is that the Warrior has a gigantic blue aoe it uses late in the fight and the party will likely be dpsing the King at that point. If you're standing in it, it will kill non-tanks not at full health and knock a tank down to low health. Off tanks may want to use their big mitigations for that one, you won't have time to run out of it and the healers will probably be dead or ignoring that you exist.

Generally nothing good. More aoes to avoid. They are different colours so you can tell the difference I suppose, but for this guide you just need to know that aoe = bad.

Did this as a new healer. Oh my, when I went through this as DPS, it was easy. Just kill the moogles in order and avoid mechanics. As a healer, I have to juggle between avoiding mechanics and healing people and doing some DPS. It was a lot more hectic.

Nah you can farm the skins just by repeating the trial, but for someone who just needs to clear it once for the story it's not really worth remembering the kill order - but if you're spamming the place then might as well learn it.

I did originally plan to but when I typed out the script I saw that there just wasn't enough material to make it into a video. I think the main tactic was something like the tank pulls the first moogle, uses flash and then everyone hits alt+F4 on their keyboards to start casting buffs.

If you open the system menu, then the User Macro option, make a new macro and copy the text from each of my macros. Should work out of the box.

It was super fun getting into a group with a bunch of people immediately rushed the boss and wiped the entire team. Nobody knew what they were doing... unfortunately, including me, since it was my first time. The 'thrown for a loop' thing is super annoying when you're the healer getting it thrown on, and the other healer doesn't esuna you fast enough for you to not f**king die, as well.

Yeah it can be pretty hard to remove to be honest. It only lasts 5 seconds and if you happen to be casting a heal already, you have to quickly cancel and esuna - and that's if you even notice in time. Of course in the video, if I had gotten it removed straight away I would have died anyway as there was only enough time to escape that AoE once, as soon as my character was turned around, it was too late. It's the sort of mechanic where I can't really hold a grudge on anyone if I die from it as the reaction window where the person still has time to avoid any aoe they might be in after getting esuna'ed is so small.

Some of the Moogles Guard can obliterate people with their AoEs (like how i died after getting Thrown for a Loop). Otherwise the big hit will come from the boss if you damage it too far without killing enough gremlins.

Yeah. Unfortunately I don't have the time for end game MMO content right now so I couldn't get fully hooked. I've thought about coming back to finish the story (which I enjoyed) and perhaps being able to make more FF content for YT but I've so much else to busy myself with currently that doesn't require spending extra money. Returning is definitely something I've thought about but I wasn't exactly a pro player (I never hit level cap much to the bewilderment of my FC). The content I could make for the game was always limited to what I could do mostly on my own - which means no super pro FC boss kill guides and stuff. I didn't like abandoning the new player guides but making them felt like a lot of work as I had already stopped logging in to play when I started them. That said I still have a lot of material prepared from back then. We'll see I suppose. I still work hard on my other videos so check 'em out if you want. You never know. #promote lol ;)

While that's probably true, a kill order does exist (and for a reason) and going without one might be messy as people who haven't done it before might not know who to be attacking - especially considering anyone who is familiar with the fight will likely be following the order out of habbit. It'll probably also go quicker if people focus them. As I said in the guide though, if you're only doing the fight the one time for the story then you don't need to worry about learning any order.

Was worried this was going to be a difficult duty only to join it and have the party not give a singular fuck about targeting mechanics because they could burst down the boss. Thankfully had the other healer up my ass to keep me up but it was fun spamming Medica II and watching people blatantly ignore fight mechanics just to burn it down.
