The "auction house" could also be a Judging chamber hence the gavel and the statement about torment and screams. If you think of it that way the comments from the NPC makes total sense.

or the "auctioning" of slaves? which could also have torment and screams.

The courtroom/jail theory was also a common one at the time, however the symbol is identical to the icon used in Final Fantasy XI's auction houses: i.imgur.com/yDnzDXF.png Which made that theory a little less likely, especially considering how 1.0 was trying so hard to be "FFXI HD". The stuff the guard says is still very strange if it was an auction house though...
@Jhazat
@Jhazat 5 жыл бұрын
I think the NPC is making a tongue in cheek joke about how bidding at the auction house can "make innocent souls feel eternal torment" and that if you stay too long you'll succumb to it too.

Well both auctions, and courtrooms have a gavel. So this theory has some weight, especially considering the comments of the NPC. However, if that was the plan, there was no other references. Given how Archeage and Wizardy worked in respect to crime systems, it probably could have been used as such, but it was probably meant to be an "auction house" in the form of "rare item the game wishes to offer" rather than other players as that's how the auction house worked since FF6, as a gold sink, and FFXIV borrows a lot from FF6 to the point that XIV may as well be a remake of VI's main plot line as a MMO, especially now. Guess we will never know.

re: the three seagull statues. these likely represented the three main La Noscean lighthouses - Gullperch, Craneperch, and Swiftperch. These were likely places of prayer where residents of Limsa could come to pray to Llymlaen for a loved one’s safe return to the statue’s corresponding lighthouse. The NPC near the Fishermans’ Bottom statue says this: F’abodji: “O merciful Llymlaen, may your winds guide my prayers safely across the endless seas and to your realm.” The inscription on the Anchor Yard bird reads: "Borne on high by winds divine, in the halls of the Twelve be heard." Which seems to fit. Of the three bird statues around Limsa Lominsa in 1.0 only one remains in the Anchor Yard today, and of the three original lighthouses only Gullperch survived the Calamity into ARR. Swiftperch and Craneperch were both destroyed. Coincidence? (Before someone comments, I didn't forget about Llymlaen's Ring or Oschon's Torch lighthouses, but those beacons were placed around the Gods' Grip peninsula specifically to guide ships into the inlet and little else.)

adding to what others are saying about the mysterious building across from Mealvaan's Gate being a courthouse... Koji Fox in the first Fanfest Lore Panel admitted that the original idea behind the Marauders' Guild was that it was supposed to be the Executioners' Guild. this was later replaced with what we actually got, but they ended up making the big pirate faction in Limsa the Bloody Executioners in reference to this. so assuming the guild was going to originally be a guild of executioners, it would make sense for the city-state to have a large court house or even a public place to hold the executions. this would explain the NPC's dialogue outside. so it could be that you stumbled upon the original Executioners' Guild hall before the idea was scrapped entirely and replaced with the Marauders' Guild.

Funny how in 1.0 nobody wants to be in Limsa, now in 2.0 and beyond its the most populated city state just cause the market board is so close to the aetheryte lol.

Its the most populated because of the jobs you can unlock there and aesthetics. Kinda stretching there assuming the Market Board has anything to do with it since who would know that fact when first starting the game. The closes Board will always be next to a properly placed FC house.
@BoxcarPhill
@BoxcarPhill 5 жыл бұрын
@@0.Kenshin Except its not a stretch at all, Literally one of the reasons why Limsa is so populated is because the market board and retainer bells are available right at spawn without a single loading screen in between unlike Gridania and Ul'dah . So people will just hang out there and chat with each other while waiting for retainers to come back from ventures and sell stuff. Not to mention the npc vendors being right in the same area. People like having access to more things while also having to do less.

Yes! I have been waiting for this! 9:40 I have no explaination for the arcanist guilds neighbor but a theory - by both the gavel icon AND the Yellowjackets words I would say it was a jail or a court. (Its my opinion that arcanists could also serve as judges and etc.) And YES Navigator's Glory is my favorite FFXIV theme. As soon as I knew it was a thing, I snatched it off the MB for my house.

Navigator's Glory, the first sounds of Final Fantasy XIV I ever heard. I will never forget it. It was used in the OG 1.0 trailer, and I have its music roll today and it plays in my apartment. Even to this day, it's one of my most favorite tracks of FFXIV. To me, this WAS the theme for Final Fantasy XIV.

4:35 if you look at the map there, you’ll notice that dark path below the chocobo stable symbol that leads east. You mention the Chocobo stable didn’t make sense being inside, but they did actually have an outside space there. In 1.0 when you’d go and rent the chocobo, they’d lead you out that side path and you’d run back around onto the bridge to run outside. Very cool video, you reminded me of some things I’ve forgotten, like how that path to the upper ramps disappeared. Never realized you could see the square from the window to the steps. Good stuff.

I wish there was a way us ARR players could go through the highlights of the 1.0 storyline leading up to the calamity (i know theres a lot that wasnt good or coherent). That, as well as see what the in game world was like before. We have so much background on the white raven for example, but we cant see his deeds.

If I remember correctly, there was a quest that describes Arcanist Gilde as a customs office. That they confiscate the pirates illegal loot. I've always thought that in this auction house, the objects of the Innocent killed victim of the Priaten is sold. After nobody came and claimed these objects.

That mysterious building in 1.0 Limsa that you mentioned looks like a Court House to me with the sign being a Gavel. It would also make sense that the NPC says he can hear people screaming and that the player may end up there if they stay in Limsa long enough because of how rough and hardy Limsa Lominsa's culture is.

I think it's a court house, and perhaps a jail by extension. - The gavel is used by judges in court. - Guilty people would probably "moan" from being sentenced to jail time. - It's somewhat remote location would be ideal to keep it out of the public eye. - Given how close it is to the port, and how Lima tends to be associated with Pirates, it would be ideal to the capture of pirates. Perhaps you could clip through the wall to see whats inside?

The "Auction House" is a reference to Final Fantasy 11 Online. Each major city in that game has one. It was that game's version of the Market Board, basically.

The "auction house" is supposed to be a JAIL. That's a judge's gavel, and would likely be where all the "illegal pirates" were kept. Assume it was later intended to be an instanced dungeon in the city, much like other major MMOs were doing at the time, like WoW's "The Stockade" dungeon.

I've been curious about something. Where did Lukile get all the footage used for RoaR/SoaR? And since he has a method of getting through doors and invisible walls that he uses for the dungeons in SoaR, couldn't he use it to try and see inside that building across from the Arcanists' Guild?

jedimasterpickle3 There are (imperfect) 1.x private server emulators that can be used solely to explore the map. But there is likely nothing inside the building to begin with; no need to render something with nothing of value inside.

I always assumed it was a courtroom or judges chamber of some kind outside the arcanist's guild. It makes sense considering the arcanists are in charge of tracking imported goods and anything that is considered contraband entering into the city. The yellowjacket stationed outside as a guard and the two organizations (yellowjackets and arcanists) working in tandem delivering judgement upon any of those breaking the rules and trying to sneak in goods that are illegal, and any other such issues that arise in the city. The "screamings and moanings" mentioned by the guard out front lineup with the pre-ARR Limsa Lominsa that ran more like Mos Eisley's space port than the more law abiding, civilized society it is today thanks to Merlwyb and the Grand Companies. Probably why they got rid of it too post-ARR. It probably didn't fit in with the current society going forward. I also think they're being sarcastic about the "innocent souls" meaning characters who claim innocence and beg for mercy but are at the hand of the judges within punishing them for stepping out of line. Just a guess? Thanks again for the videos! Keep up the great work!

Looking back on it I can see why we never got musketeers, Limsa already had 3 crafting guilds, plus smn, marauders, and rogues. Adding one more might have been a bit much for even Yoshi at the time of trying to save the game. yeah I know we eventually got a few gun classes but reallly not the same imo

I believe the unused building would have been a Courthouse/Jail. In FFXI there was a place GMs could teleport players to to imprison or interrogate them (Mordion Gaol). My guess is this building would have been used similarly, where the only way you ever ended up inside, was if you were reported for nefarious reasons. The idea was likely scrapped for a less interactive means of punishing players. by issuing Bans to the service account instead of actually imprisoning them in game.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the Case as Mordion Goal does exist in XIV ARR as a separate location away from any place on the map. www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/2qwyc3/mordion_gaol/ I need to clarify if 1.0 did have Mordion Gaol but the it being tied to a location on the Map would seem unlikely.

I found this very confusing as Limsa always seemed quite populated to me in 1.0, and I loved it for the aesthetic. I really miss walking from outside the city directly into the world. It was a little more similar to the open world of something like WoW, but with some of the benefits you get from clearly defined zones. I kind of hope they drop PS4 support whenever the PS5 becomes popular and available enough to comfortably replace it for the majority of players. I can only imagine how bad HDDs are holding back the genre in general at this point, but especially this game. Even WoW really strongly encourages an SSD and is now a lot less enjoyable on an HDD due to the rapid streaming of high quality assets. I imagine if the PS5 was the new baseline for the game (thus hopefully bumping recommended PC specs again) that we could see zones similar to this again. Not confusing or inconvenient, just big, with a city leading right into the world rather than being separate from it. And with how we can now fly (and quickly) everywhere, it doesn't have to be the slog it once was.

So we know where the name La Noscea came from (and I imagine the poor scurvy-ridden lad was an Elezen) but what, let's go with Lalafell was Limsa Lominsa named after and why?
@acedianPianist
@acedianPianist 5 жыл бұрын
This is a week late, but the Roegadyn of Aerslaent were not remotely the only sea-faring race. The Plainsfolk Lalafell were another race of seafarers/islanders, and it's likely that the crew where La Noscea served as lodesman also had Plainsfolk in their midst. You can also look at the pairing between Roegadyn and Lalafell in the context of ancient civilizations - such as Nym, where the origins of the Arcanist/Scholars and Marauders pairing together came from. So, yes, the city may very well have been named by - or for - a Lalafell.
