The minute Akasha was talked about in Endwalker I was like, “holy shit, that’s just like Dancer’s job quests” and then Dynamis came into story focus and I spent the whole time shaking my fist at Ishikawa because I can’t not believe the totentanz isn’t directly related to dynamis

Yeah, Dynamis was kinda ham fisted in by Endwalker. They could ruin entire books worth of established lore if they don't handle this new power source correctly.

@@thepurpleshade486 Endwalker did a lot right, I liked it! But the writers also took many more liberties than I thought they should have with what was the "final scene." I enjoyed it, doesn't mean I liked everything about it.

Honestly, it could be easy to have the characters reflect on their jobs and come to realize the deeper reasoning behind certain powers and phenomenon! Why the Abyss manifests personalities based on one’s emotional states and needs. The Tortentanz, etc! We haven’t explored the full depth of how Dynamis truly interacts with Aether, not why prayer is such a powerful tool to mortal races! If the writers take care to explore how the two interact we could see much more depth to the word!

I love the Tottentanz and the "dynamis Transformations" are so similar in cause. both root from innate aether disruption, unease, anxieties, and hate. both cause the victims to lash out and attack loved ones, may cause transformations (though Tottentanz transforms the emotions into a physical manifestation more than fully transforming the affecter person) and eventually die

Possible spoiler Actually, the Tottentanz might be better seen as something more similar to the first Final days. In the first Final Days, Dynamis turned an innate capability of man (creation magic) into a destructive force. The Tottentanz also turned an innate capability of man (movement and muscles) into a destructive force. Perhaps a small amount of Meteion's Dyanmis was still leaking through Zodiark's aether layer.

Random thought: What if the voidsent that Reapers form pacts with are in fact their counterparts from the Thirteenth? It's a possibility and would possibly explain why the voidsent might be cooperative?

I really hope the new void stories help explain how Reapers are able to safely make a pact with and/or control their avatar. As far as I’m aware, they are the ONLY case of making a pact with voidsent NOT going terribly awry

Don’t feed into it more than you’re willing to personally give and you should be safe. Safe being relative because the contract is in place for your “safety” hence the avatar acting as intermediary. Aether is all voidsent care to have from you and don’t give more than you can part with.

@@navyflyboy07 Nope. She's just a former Azem, not the former version of us. There was a different Azem at the time of The Final Days (who was us). Venat was one of the rare Conclave members that didn't return to the life stream (instead, just becoming more or less a "free" Azem).

We being so similar to the unsundered Azem it makes you wonder if he was taught by her to be as diversed in combat, or if she chose him as her apprentice because, like her, he showed proficiency in combat regardless of the weapon.

and this is the sad result of the writing staff of FF 14 stopping Job specific quest lines. :/ a lack of much needed lore. I mean part of the reason I've played Dark Knight for as long as I have, is the lore behind it. and the promise of potential new lore from new Job Quests, and the short intros we get now, that last a single 10 level stretch aren't doing Reaper or Sage any favors, especially Reaper, who DESPERATELY needs the added depth beyond 'shadow protectors wielding dark powers', cause so far, the Job Quests for it aren't it chief.

I will honestly be dissapointed if the third lorebook will go for the "all gunbreakers load manually" instead of drawing aether during combat into their gunblade like in the gameplay mechanics to keep their fight going. Because it will bring the jobs prestige down by lowering it down to Thancreds level of unable to manipulate aether. Such an ancient job and weapon system from the Allagan times relying on a manual reload during combat would be clunky and inefficient. And just by having them "Be able to infuse their own bullets kek" would be such a heartbreaking thing.

I'm going to give a few Gunbreaker questions as speculation and I stress that, and this is a lore channel so I assume people know what their getting into, this may be spoiler-ish about a certain aspect of the Garleans themselves. But through the Stormblood expansion it's revealed that they as a people generally lack the physical capabilities to manipulate aether, hence why their civilizations power has come mainly through the development of technology like magitek. At some point in time they integrated the combat school the Gunbreakers developed, but even then certain characters have pointed out that it's a hollow imitation. You'd think they would have altered the core aspects of it's design because the gun is supposed to be charged by ones own aether, which is something the Garleans aren't easily disposed to. And that brings up the better question of why did this style catch on with many of the higher ranked soldiers (at least from what I can discern is the case)?

The reason Gunbreaker(or the imitation of Gunbreaker) caught on so easily was because the barrier to entry was low when compared to most jobs. Of course, Garleans can't fill the rounds with aether as expected because of their disability. However, nothing was stopping magitek from creating these enchanted rounds for them. So by stealing some of the Gunbreakers style they were able to create a faux form of magic by releasing aether from their weapons mid combat. A Gunbreaker is trying to be an explosive siege weapon, a Garlean soldier is trying to mimic magic.

Actually Totentanz is translated to "Dance of the Dead"/"Danse Macabre", not "Dance of Death". It's an allegory of that Death influenced the living like we dance in his palms like our dead ancestors did and in death we are all equal (the rich, the poor, the saint, the sinner, the king, the priest). The pictures of Totentanz appeared more often after calamities, plagues, war or after other events of mass death as reminder. This feeling of loss, of fear and lonliness that the survivors felt while mimicking the dance of their loved ones with the Death. This dance is mockery to the living ones, as normally a dance is sign to be alive. So it make sense to challenge a dance with another dance.

I find it funny how slapstick incompetent gunbreakers are in lore... created to defeat the allagans... were beaten, became bozja's royal guard... the queen was assassinated, became protectors of the kingdom... the kingdom fell, and then they end up as common bodyguards begging for work on the streets

To be fair! They were constantly put up against the worlds greatest superpowers, and the queen went insane. They are just unlucky but are still very dangerous I mean I didn’t hear the monks going up against the empire. Hell they were almost wiped out by the mad king. Plus most jobs have a less than favorable past, the white and black mages caused a calamity. Warriors are super dangerous in that they can cause you to go berserk and kill your friends. dragoons were only created because of a tragedy from years ago where thordan betrayed the dragons then the churches lied about it for years.

​@restlessundead9366 Lorewise, they feel like a jack of all trades, master of none. They have good survivability and a few shields, but can't block, heal, or empower from damage as well as other tanks can. In return, they deal more damage, and have more intricate attack patterns than the other jobs. But they don't perform as well as other jobs meant for offense.

@@Zoeila There's a difference between the title of "Warrior of Light" and actually BEING the same person as the WoL we play as. "Warrior of Light" is simply given to heroes of great import throughout history, and not all of them had the Blessing of Light or the Echo. This is explained in Shadowbringers, when you speak with the librarian to ask after the First's Warriors of Light (there were several, all considered Warriors of Light).

That's why Unukalhai (iirc, he was the Earth Crystal holder of their reflection, and this is another can of worms) is so young compared to Cyella.

Now that I know more about dancer: SPOILER!!! When Endwalker starts endwalking in Thavnair, if you're playing a Dancer, does your WOL dance during any of the cut scenes? It seems like Dancers are trained to deal with a very similar scenario. It's a shame and an oversight if you don't.
