You did a good job on this. Given the similarities between Hyur and what is known as Human, is a great synopsis. Not too many players take the "Hyur" route, straying towards the more "exotic" race options. For those of us a bit too different, being a plain basic human seems like a lot more calming & cooler than it would playing a cat girl or a dragon boy. Lol

I know what you mean. I just don’t feel right being the non-“human” races. I can’t put my finger on exactly why that is. My main character is a Hyur female midlander. I generally do solo content as Summoner since I usually enjoy FF summoner lore, and since it shares the Arcanist exp pool with Scholar I use that for group content. Initially for fast queue pops but I pretty much fell in love with healing during the first duty I did as Scholar. I loved it so much I went and levelled conjurer into white mage and now both are lvl 65. I did think about trying a Miqo’te character but I’d quickly learned that most players chose Miqo’te or Au’Ra. So for my second character I went with Elezen female starting out as Lancer into Dragoon. At lvl 50 with only a couple quests before the Praetorium she’s significantly behind. But at the end of the day I just prefer being a Hyur.

It's easier to rp a human to me, and there's more freedom to playing one too considering their background. Hyur just seems more natural too, they have the most protagonist/waifu vibes to me.

A theory Ethys Asher proposed suggests that the development of the Highlander Hyur might be tied to race mixing with the Hellsguard Rogaedyn native to Gyr Abania. Interesting theory.

I watch your videos in a kind of loop. That's how much lore the game has and it's difficult to take it all in at first. Even though this was your 1st video you did a really good job with it. You sound a bit quiet and shy but it's good to see how far you have come.

I had made a whole backstory for my Miqo'te but then I got to heavensward and decided I wanted to switch to hyur. Every other wol out there is either a cat girl or an au ra... kinda felt a little saturated. Unfortunately there's not much to learn about midlanders... It feels boring to be a hyur lore-wise, but once you're out in the world it's way more unique lol

I get that. I figured out awhile back that I prefer the “human” option in games where there’s choice. I don’t really know why that is. So yeah my main character is a Hyur female midlander who specialises in both as a Summoner and Scholar plus white mage. I do usually end up creating and playing a non-human character to see how it feels, try other jobs or for role play. I did want to create a Miqo’te female but I’d quickly learned that most people choose Miqo’te or Au’Ra. So I went with Elezen female starting Lancer into Dragoon. But she’s way behind my Hyur. Now I have heard SE intends to eventually introduce female Hrothgar which would interest me. I love cats but Miqo’te were too popular. A female Hrothgar sounds good to me.

I prefer some type of horns but fem au ras were a disappointment so went with a male hyur to copy the cannon lore of wol, usually what I go with when playing as a guy for the lore. But it didn't feel right i still wanted to play as a girl so I went with fem lala then fem thighlander

What always confuses me about FF races etc is if physical attributes actually matters at all, since potatoes can be just as strong as a highlander when it comes to wielding a 2handed weapon as a warrior, people have told me that everyone uses magic "except garleans" when fighting as a way to make sense of it, wich would mean being physical strong vs magically talented is the same in melee.. except magic can do more things and has more things going for it? so if you could choose between being physicaly strong vs enhanced by magic then everyone would always choose magic. so races like highlanders are just straight up weaker than the more magically adapt races?

Ok so this is where we need to separate the game from the story. Cause you're absolutely right, it gets confusing. As far as the GAME is concerned, everyone can do everything for the sake of player creativity. As far as the LORE is concerned, that's untrue. For example, a Lalafell wouldn't make as good a Dragoon as an Elezen since their lances wouldn't have the same reach/piercing potential. Also, casting spells and using aether to enhance your physicality are different. A Garlean can't use magic, but the aether inside their body can still make them stronger and more resilient than most people.

Think Thank you so much :) I can understand the seperation when it comes to player characters, but I think I would have liked Pipin to be a mage pr something rather that a warrior type, thats when I met him is when I started getting more confused about the whole magic vs physical deal '^^. Thanks for the tidbit about Garlean physiology that their aether still helps, since I've been wondering about that and how they compare against the other races aswell :) "I just finished 5.0 and have a lot of things left to do, so dont know if its ever explained ingame yet"

@@Maglouk Exactly. Pipin could definitely use his aether to improve his attacks, surprising his opponents with swift/strong strikes. But, he'll never have the raw physical power that Raubahn has. It's their attempt to be all inclusive without outwardly stating "this is inefficient."

@@SynodicScribe I appreciate this. :3 I kinda picked up on that tidbit with Pippin a while after he received Rauban's blade. I thought, "the gesture is amazing, but that mug ain't Pippin-sized. It's going on the wall at his house." Then I thought, "Pippin wouldn't do that. He exudes Chad energy. He's gonna try to use the sword. But melting it down to make an SnS would kinda fly in the face of------- NOO.... He wouldn't... maybe... it could work.... He did kinda go against the Syndicate to save us from Ul'Dah during the attempt.... OMG... That'd kinda fit..." Lo and behold, I find Pippin in Ghymlit Dark, rockin' Rauban's blade in Dark Knight stance! My heart sings for the dude! He is on a very short list of Lalas I'd trust with my life! Pippin, you're amazing; don't let anyone tell you different or stop you!

It doesn't make sense they have absolutely no culture. They would have to have their own origin if made by a specific god and developed from that. They didn't just appear and scatter and integrate in other cultures, as we don't see mixing of the races to suggest actual intermingling. This might be a lore problem in trying to emulate what we know too closely and not considering how it might naturally occur and develop within that fantasy world's given rules. Unless I'm misunderstanding something. Every other race developed the Asian-like and European-esque cultures while the Hyur just watched?
