So that Cataclysm cinematic hits even harder when you know what areas are being destroyed. It's places where the player base had been leveling for so many years, and in-game it was all reflected by a completely revamped world.

Going to the Barrens and seeing that chasm that never ends with no way across was eye popping. After spending years upon years there leveling multiple toons to see that change took a while but it was surreal. It was an "oh shit" moment. Things are finally turning up. You honestly just had to be there moment wasn't it 😂

Seriously, the Stormwind theme blasting while Deathwing flies overhead and then him landing on the front gate just hits different when you've walked through that area a thousand times, especially now after Classic has renewed the nostalgia.

Wrath of the Lich King was / is one of the greatest stories to play through I think in all of video games. It's easily in the top 10 I think. And the Blizzard Art team NEVER EVER disappoints. I have MANY complaints about Blizzard... their art division is NEVER one of them. They always deliver. Always.

The second dragon, Deathwing, was the one who had killed the one in the first cinematic you watched. In the Lich king video, you saw her getting raised into undeath. But she originally was betrayed and killed by the lord of the black dragon flight. Her name was Sindragosa, prime consort of the lord of the blue flight. Her death drove him insane. As for Deathwing, he was a good guy but was driven to madness when he made a terrible bargain for power. Originally, he was Neltharian the Earth warder and Aspect of the black dragonflight. But after his fall he betrayed the other flights and became Deathwing.

My favorite thing about the cinematic is listening to arthas father talk it’s so ironic everything his father expected of him he did the exact opposite “and you will exercise great restraint when exercising your great power” proceeds to resurrect one of the biggest undead dragons we fought in wrath. He also expected him to become a weapon of righteous he went the opposite route and became a betrayer and corrupted and spread a plague that you can still see the effects of in many areas of the game

For me the Wrath of the Lich King Trailer is the most iconic. The Speech of the Human King to his son Arthas feels so ironic when you know that Arthas kills his Father and becomes the Lich King.

Now that Chris Metzen it’s returned to the World of Warcraft team, I’m positive we’ll be able to get back to the phenomenal lore pre-Legion/BFA/Shadowlands. I’ve done nothing but shit on wow since WoD, but holy fuck has the game taken a turn since Dragonflight released. It’s the first time I’ve enjoyed myself with a Blozzard release since Classic WoW. Can’t believe I’m even writing this right now 😂😂😂😂

With Wrath came one of best classes at least for me, the Death Knight which was were I started to play more seriously after being on and off during the previous expansion.

So the first one is basically Arthas- former prince and paladin of the human kingdom of Lordaeron who became the Lich King when he took up the Helm of Domination- re-animating the dragon Sindragosa. The second one requires more detail: Neltharion the Earth Warder, Aspect of Earth, was corrupted by the Old Gods and became Deathwing, Aspect of Death. Azeroth was under invasion by the Legion- demons- and the Five Dragon Aspects created a weapon, the Dragon Soul, to drive them out. The Soul was forged by Neltharion and charged with the power of the other four Aspects, but once it was charged, Neltharion seized it and used its power to escape- incidentally obliterating most of the demons and a whole bunch of his kin as well. A lot of history happened and Neltharion became known as Deathwing the Destroyer, Betrayer, Worldbreaker, Aspect of Death, etc after absorbing a great deal of power from the Dragon Soul and using it to continue wreaking havoc. For Cataclysm: he escaped from the other Aspects into Deepholm, the Elemental Realm (dimension). The power he'd absorbed from the Dragon Soul was too much for him to control and began to pull him apart, so he forced the blacksmiths (in the trailer) to forge plates of metal to nail into his flesh and hold him together. (Think red-hot metal bandaids held on by red-hot thumbtacks.) He maintained his power over earth, so as he suffered the pain of the forging, the world suffered increasingly violent earthquakes and tsunamis, and his presence in the Elemental realm caused the earthly elementals- spirits of earth, air, fire and water- to run wild. At last he ripped open the dimensional barrier and was free in Azeroth again, flying over the world and causing destruction everywhere he went. In-game, a zone would suddenly turn red, Deathwing would fly over, flames would erupt all over the landscape in his path, and any player, npc or mob caught in his fire would be insta-killed. The first time, it gave an achievement, Stood In The Fire, which was only attainable during the Cataclysm expansion. After you got the coveted achievement, it was mainly a nuisance!

The pre-expansion events were in-game earthquakes, mild to severe, and an 'elemental invasion', where the player had to fight off waves of crazed, hostile elementals. Man you can stretch this out in a 30+ part series if you wanted to. I've helped people do it before. I have a huge playlist with over 300 videos that's literally every trailer, cinematic, etc. from Warcraft 1-3, WoW and every expansion. So one thing to note is that WoW is a spinoff from the original Warcraft games which dropped in 94, 95, 96, 02 and 03. 1 was stand alone and 2 and 3 had expansions. WoW is essentially, at least unless they finally make one, Warcraft 4 and onward. If they made Warcraft 4 it would probably either retell WoW's battles or be set way after. So Warcraft was originally a real time strategy series of games like Starcraft, Age of Empires or Command & Conquer. Half the draw of WoW originally was getting to see Warcraft's world as one character from WoW's perspective instead of controlling a bunch of different units and building bases throughout missions to progress a single player story campaign. Anyways, hit me up if you want about the playlist, I put a lot of work over a long time into it. I'd say, finish out the intro cinematics if you want, then you can go deeper. Every expansion after BC also has a "Features Trailer" or "Announcement Trailer" separate of the high fidelity cinematic intros you've seen that go along with them. They tell more of what's going on and what the action sort of will be as well as major changes and features for each expansion. Helps keep an idea of what was going on from expansion to expansion. Also by the time of the 4th expansion they started doing these short Animated Story videos in series for each expansion afterwards. About the 4th expansion, it's called Mists of Pandaria, *obligatory Kung Fu Panda jokes here*, the thing is, one of Blizzard's artists concepted the pandaren way back in like 1999 and the pandaren were in Warcraft 3 in 2002 and 2003 while Kung Fu Panda was in 2005. And people will say only as an easter egg or a joke, that's not true either, Chen Stormstout was a character in Warcraft 3's expansion for one of the campaigns. This caused a huge divide back in 2012 and it's settled by now but people are all over the place where you had haters that thought it went against the core Warcraft material, then people who were all for it and people who shifted their opinion one way or another after the expansion. Last but not least, I've helped a few reaction channels through the Warcraft stuff before, if you're more of a lore guy and don't mind lore stuff let me know. If you're just about technical stuff like gameplay I gotchu. Enjoy man, this is a hell of a journey, and it makes pretty good react content for a good long while. There's a lot of shit you'd miss if you just go with what you see at surface level, like there's a teaser cinematic that was made for WoW before it even released that most people don't know about so I can definitely help here. @@lordderecho There is achievment in the game - Stood in the fire you get it when you get killed by Deathwing. Deathwing obviously no longer flyes over the zones, but you can still get the achievment by getting killed in the raid where he is one of the bosses.

If your just getting into it then play wrath classic because this is techincly the only time it will ever have as much activity as it is right now becasue back in the day when wow had the most subs ever which was around 12 million i want to say was during wrath. What made wrath insane back in the day was the desire to keep adventuring and seeing new content within the eyes of the character you made, everything was interesting, and it was during a time when people actually played the game to have fun, and you have to remember in those days (2007-2010) social media wasnt as big and people werent used to receiving news or important information within seconds you actually had to go out and pave the way for yourself. The problem with world of warcraft now is the sense of adventure and curioustiy that captured millions of people years ago isnt there anymore, people play the game to be the BEST at it instead of actually playing and enjoying the game. Years ago you logged on to uncertainty and excitement not knowing what today would bring you in adventures, now people log in to achieve a goal and to show it off. The game has lost its TRUE identity and if you werent there years ago to actually experience the best time during wow then you'll never understand. Cheers and love to all

Ya I can understand that, I'm a bit sad I missed it but everything will still be fresh for me😀, I don't really play games for some bragging rights, I'm just there to have a good time, and discover cool areas and cool quests. I do think people try hard games, too hard now😆 but with the rise of esports and world first raids, I figured it would move in that direction. If I can capture a piece of that "true unknown adventure" feeling, then I'm happy😀🤙

Of course they're highly acclaimed. Thats the Blizzard "back then". The same gravity and weight seems to be missing from the most recent CG trailers and showcases. Its all very bouncy and Dreamworks-esque, and not quite in a good way. And the narrative for WotLK was and still is unmatched in the WoW department.

I have nothing against reaction content in general. But i got to admit this felt extremely lackluster. Absolutely zero discussion regarding the trailers and their content and the only thing we get is: "Bro what are these trailers? I'll catch you in the next one". The first trailer was instantly followed up by the second, without any discussion except "cool dragon" and the video ends 20 seconds after the second trailer. I've seen react channels who discuss these kinds of trailers for 20 minutes.
