WoW was the game that made MMOs mainstream but it wasn't the first big MMO. The first graphical MMO was a game released in 1991 called Neverwinter Nights (not to be confused with the 2002 Bioware game of the same name). The game was shut down in 1997. Big and popular MMOs that predate WoW include but are not limited to Ultima Online (released 1997, still running), EverQuest (released in 1999 in the US and in 2000 in Europe, still running), EVE Online (released in 2003, still running) and Final Fantasy XI (released in 2002, still running).

The Anduin you see in the The War Within cinematic is severely traumatized. In Shadowlands he was kidnapped and forced into armor that overpowered his free will. He was forced to watch everything that he did while his body murdered, and fought against people he cared for. The reason he flinched when Thrall laid his hand on his shoulder it's because his father's soul rested his hand there after finally breaking his chains against The Jailer. Anduin grew learning to be a priest in order to counter his father's Warrior tendencies. So when he says he doesn't feel the light anymore it's even more devastating to him since he grew up with it for most of his life. Then to top it all off he's supposed to be King of Stormwind and the leader of the Alliance. As it is Anduin has a lot of healing to do, and The War Within will probably be the place in which he does it.

Hi, nice to meet you. Couple of things from an old veteran: In the second Battle for Azeroth trailer, when Thrall says "You were followed!" I believe you missed Saurfang's quiet reply "I followed *them*" indicating that Thrall was never hidden or safe anyway, which makes it that much more poignant when Saurfang says "you and I...we don't get to hide." There is a lot of useful lore from Warcraft 1, 2, and specifically 3 that ties in with the greater world and story. Even if you use cheat codes and blaze through you'll gain a lot out of them. Much of WoW has been removed, made difficult to access, changed etc as the game has gone through expansions and world updates. Lore videos may help fill in those gaps story-wise, just be aware there was a LOT there that is hard to convey if you weren't there to experience it yourself. This also includes player-driven events and influences, such as the Corrupted Blood Incident and how the players dealt with it (look THAT up for sure lol) I hope you enjoy learning about Azeroth and the rest of the Warcraft universe. It holds a special place in my heart and influences a lot of the artwork I make, even if I haven't played in a while.

It's like a Renaissance Fair or Larping event where a story is being told basically in real time over multiple seasons. If you really want the story, you either had to have been there, or catch up on it second hand. Sylvanas Windrunner is a former Highelf and Ranger General of them, killed by Arthas as she tried to defend their home, turned by him into an undead Banshee (that's why she can become 'smoke' and fly if she pleases), for a while bound to him, forced to slaughter her own people, then able to free herself and soon many other now undead people, creating the "Forsaken", a group of free undead that allied with the Horde, because the Alliance didn't want them. When she was turned undead, she lost a lot of her empathy, still fighting for freedom (mainly of the Forsaken first), but by often brutal means. When Arthas was defeated at the End of Wrath of the Lich King, she tried to end her life - only to realize that Life is only a "flicker", followed by the Afterlife in the Shadowlands, where you are condemned to be not much more than cattle for a life that was never yours to choose in the first place. She met one of the Death Gods there (the overall background of WoW is that ther are six known cosmic forces, Death, Life, Light, Void, Chaos and Order, which MUST be in balance fo reality to work, but every cosmic force wants to be the dominating one and deeply distrusts especially its counter force, leading to an eternal war between them and mortals caught in it) who wanted to change the system long before, but was stopped by the other Death Gods and condemned to become the Jailer of the Maw, the place where the most evil and unredeemable souls were send, which are too dangerous to even keep as cattle. Like herself, the Jailer was distorted by domination magic, but after a while he mastered his chains and forged them into weapons, constantly manipulating things in the world out of the Maw via his agents, waiting thousands of years for the right time to break free, get his full stolen power back and change the system. Sylvanas is going along with this, not fighting for freedom of the Forsaken, since in comparison to the eternity of death, everything in life is pretty much "nothing" and just a game with mortals as "toy soldiers", but for the plan to work they need soul power - that's why she seems to go "crazy" wagering war, to create this soul power for them - with the final plan set in motion when she visits the Frozen Throne and shatters the Helmet of Domination to destroy the barrier between reality and the Afterlife. In the end it doesn't go all as planned, since the Jailer left out a crucial part about how he wants to rewrite the system (not really caring much about mortals - what leads to Sylvanas instantly going against him, though). While Sylvanas is a few thousand years old and very experienced warrior and her Banshee form empowering her further, the main power in the cinematics are just borrowed from that Death God, though and she would be much weaker without that.

Vanilla Cinematic - 2004 was the year this Cinematic was made, the game started 4 years after the events of Warcraft 3 had concluded, but it was much sooner for it's fans in the real world, merely 2 years. TBC - those various characters are player characters, blank canvases to write your own story upon, or many stories if you had multiple characters created. Wrath - Arthas Menethil, Ruler, Paladin, Monster... he is all this and more, originally an antagonist in Warcraft 3's expansion; The Frozen Throne, he has awakened to destroy the world of the living after taking the mantle of Lich King. Cata - Deathwing, a Dragon that turned on it's brethren at the time of The Sundering, came back with a vengeance and we had to fight desperately to stop him, his back was a Boss Fight by itself. no doubt Yoshi P took inspiration from this expansion to create A Realm Reborn. Mists - many lay claim that WoW ripped off Kung Fu Panda, but if anything it was probably the opposite, for the Panda in the intro was originally in Warcraft 3 back in 2001/2002 they just merely got their own expansion in 2012 to celebrate their Chinese audience. Warlords - 35 years ago, before the chronological events of Warcraft 1, Grommash Hellscream and the Orcs that followed him, drank the Demon Blood and became pawns of the Legion. this expansion takes us to an alternate timeline, in which Garrosh, the Son of Hellscream stops that from happening, warning his Father and aiding him in taking him down Mannoroth (the Demon in the Cinematic) then created the Iron Horde to try to conquer Azeroth in the Present Day. Legion - this expansion marks the 3rd invasion by The Burning Legion, an army of Demons hellbent on destroying the known universe. they first came to Azeroth 10000 years ago, then in Warcraft 3 they came back, now they are back once again, relentless in their "crusade". BFA - Sylvanas (the one you think is a Night Elf) is an undead Highborne Elf, her race is known these days as Blood Elves, she was raised by Arthas back in Warcraft 3 after she was slain, she is a Banshee. and the old Wolf (Worgen) in the cinematic has much beef with her, but that is lore for another day. Mak'gora - Varok Saurfang was his name, was the Orc he went to see is Thrall, the once leader of The Horde, which he left to become a Shaman of The Earthen Ring and also a Father. Shadowlands - that is not Arthas Menethil, that is the new Lich King, Bolvar Fordragon. he had to take the mantle of Lich King after Arthas fell, for without a Lich King the undead armies of The Scourge would run berserk to consume everything. Dragonflight - there is much lore in those 10,000 years, but in a nutshell the Titan Watchers eventually became Humans in the Warcraft universe, there are other watchers, but not many left at all in the Present Day. btw, this expansion takes place 5 years after Shadowlands, roughly 6 after Saurfang sacrificed himself to save the Horde. TWW - Anduin has been through much in Shadowlands, but basically he feels that the Light had forsaken him in his darkest hour and after losing his father in Legion, losing the Light has left him feeling alone and afraid of what darkness may be looming in his heart.

The first trailer was released in 2004. It features (in order of appearance): - Dwarf Hunter - Night Elf Druid - Undead Warlock (warlocks are not necromancers; instead they use dark magic to controll demons. The creature behind the warlock is a demon known as an infernal). - Tauren Shaman (the Tauren where originally called minotaurs during the development of Warcraft 3 but the name was changed to Tauren to make it more unique) - Orc Warrior - Human Mage The two remaining races (trolls and gnomes) and the remaining classes (priest, paladin and rogue) are not featured in the trailer. Two factions exist in WoW: the Horde and the Alliance. Each started with 4 playable races (Orcs, trolls, undead and tauren for the Horde and humans, night elves, dwarves and gnomes for the Alliance) and 9 classes. 2 classes where faction specific in Vanilla WoW: Only the Horde had shamans while paladins where Alliance exclusive.

The Sword in The War Within cinematic was put there by Sargeras at the end of Legion in the Antorus raid. Sargeras is/was a Titan from the pantheon of Order; 1 of 6 cosmic forces in the Warcraft universe. He was tasked with fighting the Void, another cosmic force, before eventually going mad and decided that the only way to win against the void would be total annihilation of everything in the universe. He is the one who created the Burning Legion from the demons he would kill/and or imprison. There's a ton more that would take too long to explain over comment, but this is the basics.

the wrath of the lich king trailer gets even better with a little context. Arthus wasnt always like this. He was a decent human being at a time. And was the son of the (then) king. The voiceover from his father throughout the trailer, is a father talking to his son years ago, long before arthas became what he is in the trailer. So its even more poiniant the fact that what his father said to him all those years ago, still somewhat apply today, but in a different context. His father is talking about a good man, becoming king, and ruling over his people properly. While what we see is a villain of a king, ruling over his undead horde people. Its a hard one to explain in a basic comment, i mean shit, there's multiple hour long videos dedicated just to this one character and his story that are well worth watching! He's one of the best characters to have come into this whole world of warcraft and very beloved by the community. The excitement from everyone when we realised we'd be able to actually fight him ourselves was an absolutely insane moment. Really do miss those times in wow. Simpler times. His backstory basically comes from the pre world of warcraft game, just "Warcraft" and we see what drove him to become who he is in this trailer and what things "corrupted" and tempted him along the way to being the Lich King. Not to mention the whole lich king Nerzhul stuff that complicates it even further.

If you are interested in the present story, I recommend you to see the in-game cinematic. They don't look as pretty as this ones, but they explain current events including the gigantic sword. My personal favorite being "the rejection of the gift" staring Illidan, the demonic guy you saw on the second trailer. Also there are some set of cinematic that dive more into the lore. This are more artistic, more story-telling, less action but not less entertaining. This ones are: -Burdens of Shaohao (Set of 6; Mist of Pandaren) -Lords of war (Set of 5; Warlords of Draenor) -Harbringers (Set of 3; Legion) -Warbringers (Set of 3; Battle for Azeroth and personal favorite) -Afterlives (Set of 4; Shadowlands) -Legacies (Set of 3; Dragonflight) I must admit "Burdens of Shaohao" may be a difficult watch for some, but it get better with the others. So as you can see there is a lot of thing to watch. Take it at your time and enjoy!
@MaemuraLonewolf10 ай бұрын
It's cool watching these again with those who are totally new to the IP. Ok, so I will try to keep it brief but since you had questions. Sylvanas was a High Elf who was killed by the Lich King (Arthas) and turned into a banshee (thus the Banshee Wail in the BfA cine). She goes super villain and does a bunch of terrible things leading to the war with the Alliance that you see in all the BfA stuff (and the Horde who break off from her to join Saurfang to stop her). Spoiler alert inc: she is empowered by a super bad guy that's why she can kick everyone's butt in BfA and beyond. She partners up with this bad guy and that is the story of Shadowlands. Won't go into details b/c that is a can of worms (most ppl hated the story in SL). Saurfang is Varok Saurfang (it can get confusing, I know). There is a cinematic that takes place chronologically right before the intro to BfA cine (the battle itself) called Old Soldier. It's amazing and you should watch it for some context. Idk why it's cut out of this compliation. Anduin becomes king during Legion when Varian (the guy in the Legion cine who is narrating the letter to his son) dies saving all of his people. Varian goes out like the bad*ass he is and both Horde and Alliance players were devastated. Anduin is 17 at the time and has always been a pacifist, unlike his father. He is technically a priest (healing class). That's why you see him drop the sword to call on the Light to heal his troops. He's a pretty powerful priest at that. In the BfA cine he is 18. So, he's a kid who hates war and is not a great fighter, like his dad was. Big shoes to fill, etc. In SL the leaders of various factions, inc Anduin, get kidnapped by Sylvanas and her baddie friends who are working with the new big bad (Jailer) who was literally just introduced for SL but turns out is responsible for every bad thing that ever happened to Azeroth (the world). Anduin is tortured for months, doesn't break, then they use what they call Domination Magic on him to essentially take control of him. He does all these bad things for the Jailer but he's aware of what he's being made to do. And after the xpac when he is freed from it all, he isn't sure if he kinda liked the power he possessed when he was "dominated". He doesn't go back to his kingdom, needs time to think about things, has lost faith in himself, is afraid to call the Light, etc. And that is what we find in the War Within cinematic. The voice speaking to Anduin is thought to be Azeroth herself (the world soul, as per the subtitles). Lots of theories, no one knows what is going on yet. Sorry for the wall of text. Great reaction. Keep em coming.

Man, as a World of Warcraft lore fan it is a treat to see people see these for the first time, the whole lore of the world is so extensive even before WoW in things like books, comics and there was even an animated show i guess (not canon I'm guessing tho) but Blizzard really does some good ass cinematics. And Wow's are some of the most exhilarating because every time you swear off of it, another banger comes out and brings you back.

Fun fact - Both Lich Kings you saw were once Human Paladins for the Alliance. Prince Arthas Menethil and Bolvar Fordragon. Bolvar took over when Arthas fell, because there must always be a Lich King or the undead would wash over the world. The LK is the jailer of the damned. Sylvannas was an alliance Wood Elf, before she pissed Arthas off. He killed her, and enslaved her soul, causing endless torment. When Arthas' hold over the undead was temporarily shaken during the 3rd war (Warcraft 3 - Frozen Throne) she and many others broke free, and she became the Banshee Queen, leader of The Forsaken (The Forsaken joined the Horde, and was one of the founding members). Her power in this universe has become somewhat incomprehensible, as she has far exceeded Arthas, and from what you saw in that cutscene, Bolvar too. The original Lich King's spirit inhabits that crown (An orc Warlock, named Nerzhul). Arthas had the fighting ability but not the willpower to withstand it's influence. Bolvar lacked the fighting capabilities of Arthas, but had the will to endure it without losing himself. It also helped that the sword, Frostmourne, was destroyed; because that controlled Arthas before the crown did. So as you can now imagine, destroying the LK crown has DIRE consequences. Every expansion deals with a potential world ending event, and this was no exception. One last note. The "big bad" of this game does tend to shift from expansion to expansion, but the biggest bad is who got this all started. A mad Titan named Sargeras who created The Burning Legion. The Legion created the Lich King. Let's just say that Sylvannas is misunderstood. She definitely does some really bad shit, but one thing or another keeps redeeming her. She's one of my favorite characters, and I am a career Horde man. EDIT: That sword's owner was Sargeras, and the voice reaching out is Azeroth (the planet) herself. She is also a Titan.
@lunayoshi10 ай бұрын
In the Shadowlands cinematic, Sylvanas pretty much breaks the helmet and opens the living world to the afterlife. It's not clear in the cinematic, but that's what she does. Shadowlands was about exploring the afterlife, people in it (i.e. enemies you defeated in very old raids), and what happens when people corrupt the afterlife.

The sword that was in The War Within trailer was from the Legion Expansion when Sargeras (former Titan turned to the Burning Legion) stabbed it as a last second effort before being imprisoned by the other Titans at the Seat of the Pantheon. There is a lot of lore, and it is definitely worth looking into. Also, Nobbel87 does a lot of Warcraft lore if you wanted to check him out.

Saurfang says "let it be finished" right before he fights Sylvanus as a tribute to his son. If you look at the Wrathgate trailer you can see it. He knew he was going to die just as his son did, fighting a battle he cannot win.

If you enjoyed these as it seems you did, I highly recommend you look up the pre-expansion videos. Starting from Mists they did a series of videos introducing the themes and big players of the coming expansions and they are amazing. Burdens of Shaohao Lords of War Harbingers Warbringers Afterlives Legacies

You should watch the other cinematics which are like videos made of pictures. One of those are harbingers, then you have lords of war, warbringers, and lastly afterlives. They are all amazing. Also, some ingame cinematics like rejection of the gift, thrall vs garrosh, wrathgate or fall of the lich king are also pretty awesome and would give you much better understanding of the story.

rough explanation to make cinematics make sense. 1: original. horde vs alliance faction(thrall is war chief of the horde, orc in war within trailer) 2: BC. go into portal to draenor to fight illidan, the you're not prepare guy 3: WotLK. undead rampage across azeroth(this planet earth) and lich king is awaken(big bad) but we killed him. helmet is the power and someone needs to wear it to stop undead rampage, so a burnt up Bolvar wears the helmet and hides his identity from the world and becomes the new lichking. 4: Cata. deathwing(fire dragon) awakens and sunders the world but we stop him with the help of the dragons(ones in dragonflight trailer) and thrall(who retires as war chief of the horde at end of expansion) 5: pandaria. horde and alliance fight but find mysterious land(pandaria). new war chief Garrosh wants the land and it resources and find old god powers but stop him in the end but not kill. 6: WoD. time travel to alternate draenor in the past. Garrosh(5 oclock shadow bearded orc in trailer) stops his father drinking the demon blood that turn orcs skin green and tried to rule the world with the orcs but stop their plan. Garrosh dies by thrall. 7: Legion. the legion(demons) invade azeroth to get the world soul. illidian returns and find out he was a goodish guy trying to stop the legion invasion. stop the invasion and go to their world planet to stop them. a titan who went rouge was leading the legion and was imprison by the other titans. before fully captured, he stabs azeroth with his sword(war within sword at the end) 8: BFA. horde vs alliance again. anduin is king of the alliance. sylvannas(war chief) has sinister plans but are unknown and divides the horde between those who support her and those who support saurfang(orc who dies in cinimatic) 9: shadowlands. slyvannas fights bolvar to get the lichking's helm and breaks it to open a rift to the shadowlands aka the afterlife and is working with a person called the Jailer. Jailer captures Anduin and controls his body in attacking and killing his allies. stop them and sylvannas is trap there to repent for all that she has done. Anduin is free of the jailers control but is traumatized and loses the ability to control the light and ventures off to heal. 10. dragonflight. dragons return to their home. there were 4 primordial dragons imprisoned and are released. 2 are killed, one is an ally now, and other escapes which will lead into war within. 11. WW. ppl are hearing whispers from the world soul. Thrall find anduin who hasn't healed from shadowlands. now trying to figure out what that sword from legion expansion was aimed at. skipped alot of details but recommend watchin some nobble87 videos for more details.

In Shadowlands Anduin got mind controlled by The Jailer (the biggest bad in WoW history) and Anduin went on a rampage as his "champion" and killed thousands of souls too feed the Jailers power. Ultimately almost destroying all of Azeroth while being conscious of everything he did while having no control and also as he says in The War Within "Like it somehow" and after getting freed from the Jailer he lost his connection with the Light (his divine powers that Priests and Paladins draw from)

In legion argus after u defeat him before he dies he shoves his sword into azeroth and blizzard basically forgot about it till now and there was an on going joke with blizzard "what sword?" even at blizz con 2023 that had a photo op with a sign and sword that said "what sword?" so FINALLY 3 expansions later we get to know wtf the sword did (stabbed the core of azeroth clearly) but yeah that is the origin of the sword. ------------------------------------------------------ what Anduin did was in shadowlands he got corrupted by the Jailor (who was working with sylvanas) and he was one of the final bosses in the last raid for shadowlands and he pretty much did the bitting of the jailor until we freed him from his grasp on him pretty much. So he had trama from that clearly and just left as u saw in the trailer so that is the short explanation about what happened with Anduin and why he "lost his light" ------------------------------------------------------------ Anduin is also the son of the original king u saw in the trailer for legion but he got killed the first half of legion so that made anduin king and blizzard did a foreshadowing of how the lich king and anduin if u go back to the lich king trailer he does the same pose to thrall as the lich king did as well as the "my son" scene which is his father like the lich king which I thought was an interesting take -------------------------------------------------------------- Sylvanas is not a night elf she was a high elf before the lich king turned her into a banshee she escaped him created the forsaken of the left overs from the lich king that went with her and became part of the horde so I guess u could say she is a banshee high elf in a way so pretty much like a blood elf but like more powerful obv and when voljin died in Legion like the king os stormwind both faction leaders got killed before vuljin died the spirits told him to make sylvannas warchief which is how battle for azeroth started as since sylvanas was now in power and no one could say no to her she could do whatever she burned the night elf capital city aka the tree to the ground which is how battle for azeroth started that is what saurfang was talking about when he mentioned the burning. So sylvannas was warchief until the end of BFA and when shadowlands came someone took her place. and right now she is not around as she is paying her time in the shadowlands for the crimes she committed. ---------------------------------------------------------------- So there is a little some what run down for you on a few things, personally BFA had the best trailers in my opinion Jaina's is my favorite with her mother it is super emotional along with her trailer with bane who is a tauren not a minotar they are called tauren but anyways hoped this provided some information to clear up some things

a lot of characters need to fixed. one of the main issues for me since i'm trying to climb the leader board is Velma's cop car is very op can kill you at 0 percent and has no counter play other than running around till its gone. bugs bunny air up attack is just plain dumb. his air side attack is very annoying and can be even worse when he has his holes down. also for bugs bunny he has so many amazing ranged attacks while also having the better close attacks and air attacks in the game. and Finn is just Finn a lot of people already know his issues so i wont go into it with him. Just simply get annoyed when i lose games or die very early because of the characters i have talked about. This can simply be explained as a skill issue on my end and i could have just wrote this out of annoyance but i do think once some of this stuff is handled i will be less annoyed when i lose in 1v1's and can climb the leader board better without feeling like i was cheesed or cheating out of a match i should have won. After everything i just said the game still is a lot of fun and i cant stop playing it, trying to climb the ranks on the leader board makes it enjoyable for me to keep playing despite the balance issues and can't wait to play this more competitively. There are some things i left out about the annoying issues but i just highlighted a few.

In my opinion you need to watch 3 cinematics to fully understand "the war within" trailer. 1st is the After Argus boss fight Cinematic trailer from Legion (explains the sword). And then the Anduin Cinematics from Shadowlands (explains Anduin's current state of mind) to fully get what's going in the most recent trailer....they are also both excellent. So in this in-game cinematic kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5SaeZiOr7CFgJI , we see Sargares stab Azeroth with a giant sword. The cliff notes version cuz the lore is hella long and complex...in the Warcraft Universe some planets have souls inside them (worldsouls). The demons (burning legion) figured out a way to harness the world soul power for infinite respawns. Sargares was once a protector of creation along with all the other big guys in the video...but he went rogue and believes the only way to save the universe is to kill all the world souls, thereby enabling him to kill the demons once and for all - Azeroth has a worldsoul in here (that is most likely the mysterious voice in "The war within" trailer. As for Anduin, in Shadowlands, he ends up getting captured by Sylvanas and then Sylvanas' master Dominates his mind and forces him to do some pretty terrible things over the course of the expansion... including trying to kill all of his friends....and very nearly succeeding....at the end of a boss fight there is a decent ingame cinematic - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6TKqGihmah6d5Y . And at the end of the expansion there is a prologe in game cinematic where Anduin seeks out Sylvanas (who once upon a time, was also mind controled by the same Domination Magic) kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3mrm2h3jcmDqZI .

If you want to see ingame cinematics that are the most important cinematics for context to what you watched here: (in chronological order) - Fall of the Lich King Ending - Siege of Orgrimmar Trailer (OPTIONAL for Broken Shore cinematic horde side) - Siege of Orgrimmar Ending Horde version (OPTIONAL for Broken Shore cinematic horde side) - Nagrand Finale (OPTIONAL for Broken Shore cinematic horde side) - The Broken Shore cinematic (Horde version includes the most important scenes if you only watch one of them.) - Sylvanas and Vol'jin Cinematic (OPTIONAL for Broken Shore cinematic horde side) - A Found Memento - Warbringers: Sylvanas - Old Soldier - Shadowlands pre-patch cinematic - Sylvanas' Choice - Kingsmourne - Anduin Raid Finale (End of Anduins story before the War Within trailer) Then, a list of other great ingame cinematics that will make the War Within make more sense: (in chronological order) - Warlords of Draenor Ending - Nighthold Finale - Tomb of Sargeras Trailer - Tomb of Sargeras Ending - The Battle for Argus - Rejection of the Gift - Argus the Unmaker Defeat Cinematic (End of everything else related to the War Within trailer) Then there's the last trailer you watched "The War Within Expansion trailer", which kind of ties the first and second list of cinematics together.

If no one else has posted a spark notes version of the story, here's the super simplified lore drop: Classic: Alliance vs Horde, "civilized" races against the more honor bound but primitive side. Burning Crusade: Back before any events of the WoW game, there were a few different wars. The Night Elves, who you can play in the game, used to be dependent on magic from something called The Nightwell. That source of magic ended up screwing over the Night Elves in the long run during the course of these wars, and ultimately they swore against that for what it could do. Illidan Stormrage, the horned demon guy you saw, wanted to bring that back, and ended up imprisoned for thousands of years for it. Him looking like that is the result of long term demonic corruption and a thirst for revenge. Wrath of the Lich King: Arthas Menethil was the prince of Lordaeron, and during his time growing up there was a zombie plague that was ravaging his kingdom. Desperate to save his people, he followed the demon behind all of that and ended up taking up the blade that you saw in the cinematic. That blade claimed his soul and ended up corrupting him, and he became the controller of the zombie forces known as The Scourge. Cataclysm: The dragon Deathwing was once known as Neltharion, who was one of five Aspects in Azeroth (Magic, Life, Dreams, Time, and the Earth) and during one of the wars against the Burning Legion those aspects banded together to create something called the Dragon Soul to wipe out the demonic forces. Unfortunately, during the formation of this artifact, the Old Gods were driving Neltharion mad, and ultimately drove him to betray everyone after the war was done. In his maddened state, he became known as Deathwing. Mists of Pandaria: Panda land! The pandaren were doing their own thing and ended up exposed to the Alliance and the Horde after a battle brought them to Pandaria. This expansion had a lot of Chinese inspired mythos to it, so you had spiritual corruption based on emotions and such. This corruption ended up consuming Garrosh Hellscream, who was the appointed warchief of the Horde, and he ended up acting brutally because of it and was imprisoned as a result. Due to evil Bronze (time) dragon shenanigans, he went back in time to when the Orcs were originally corrupted back before the events of classic, which leads us to... Warlords of Draenor: Alternate timeline story in which the orcs never succumbed to demonic corruption and instead became a highly organized group of warriors and conquerors. The end boss of this expansion was Gul'Dan, who was the original facilitator of the corruption in the first place. Due to his influence and interference, that brought about a new Fel invasion, which led us to... Legion: The Alliance and the Horde have to unite in order to fight off the demons again. Artifacts are dug up, and the whole of the world need to band together in order to defeat the demonic forces that threaten to consume the world. Ultimately we defeat the demons and their leader, and it is due to this defeat that a big sword was stuck into Azeroth (that'll be important later). Of course, as all alliances based on necessity go, they don't last long. Because of that, and because of growing friction between the newly appointed warchief Sylvanas Windrunner (the spooky elf lady), the Horde and Alliance popped it off again. Battle for Azeroth: Classic 2: Electric Boogaloo, only this time it's Sylvanas doing more evil things for her own evil plans, and the Horde being kind of split between the fanatics of those who follow her utterly because of her authority, and those with a sense of morality that want to bring the Horde back to its honor-based foundations. That's why you have Saurfang (one of the premier Horde officers and heroes) fighting Sylvanas: to bring everyone back to an honorable motivation. Sylvanas being outed as evil leads her to defeating the Lich King (not the Arthas Lich King, as he's defeated before the Wrath expansion ends, but one who took up the helm after him), and opening up access to the Shadowlands. Shadowlands: I didn't play this expansion so take what I say with a grain of salt, but imagine an afterlife with different factions all under the umbrella of a big boss called the Jailer. The Jailer wants ultimate control and will do whatever he can to take that control. This is who Sylvanas was serving, but ultimately realized the folly of her actions, and things went back to a relatively copacetic state. Dragonflight: return to the homeland of the dragons. The dragons are ancient across the board, and existed in some form before the Horde and Alliance were a thing. This expansion brings everyone back to that homeland and the players have to help the dragons deal with internal conflicts. Again, I didn't play this one so I'm unfamiliar with the full story. The War Within: This is going to be the next one coming out. Anduin, the blondie in this cinematic and the one you saw during the Battle for Azeroth as the leader of the Alliance forces (as well as the cinematics with Saurfang) was made to do some pretty terrible things during the Shadowlands expansion, and is dealing with healing from trauma. Thrall, the orc who found him, also dealt with that, as during his time during cataclysm and after warlords, he lost his touch with the elements and needed to recover from that ordeal. The sword that was stuck into the earth at the end of Legion is still there, which is what you see at the end, and based on the clues given (as well as the lore dropped in previous expansions and the bosses that were fought in those expansions), we are probably dealing with extremely ancient entities at the core of the world/Old Gods that have plagued us with problems before.

In regards to the War Within trailer. Story spoilers for those that care. Anduin is suffering from some rather severe PTSD as during the Shadowlands expansion he was captured by the Jailer, the big bad of that expansion, and through Domination magic was forced to serve him. While doing so Anduin killed many and aided the Jailer is exerting his dominance and will upon others, nearly changing all of reality in the process. While Anduin was not doing these things of his own free will, he was fully aware of what he was being made to do and he admitted at the end of it all that it scared him because while he was doing horrible things that stood against his beliefs, he simultaneously felt excited and good at the power and control he experienced doing it; as if there is a part of him that doesn't regret any of it. After Shadowlands he went on a pilgrimage saying he needed time and we haven't seen him up until this trailer.

@ The Voice: It's know that Azeroth (the planet) has a 'world soul' a godlike and very likely extreme powerfoul soul and many of the cosmic forces (if not all), constantly fight over it, some say to defend 'her', others want to corrupt her - or even just kill her (that's one of the theories why Sargeras - a god of order who went insane over the knowledge that all life in the universe was more and moer corrupted by other forces and so he want on a "burning crusade" to just kill all life - so it can't be corrupted anymore - his army also called "Legion". Before he was stopped by the other order gods, he took his sword and crashed it into the planet and may hace done that to kill the world soul, but it's just a theory) so she can't be corrupted again. That world soul never really spoke to anyone but one dwarf, but even there it is not very clear and even himself doesn't actually 'talk' to her, but it's more like "feeling" what she might want. That voice COULD be coming from Azeroth - but the whole WoW lore is full of manipulations and there is a whole fraction of shape shifting demons for example who are known for using their power to trick people or the 'old gods' beings created by the cosmic force "void" to infiltrate reality (the gods of the void can't enter), some of them hiding deep inside Azeroth and are also known for manipulation and driving mortals insane. By that, to just say that the voice is the world soul crying out for mortals is a very risky guess - and the NPC like Thrall know that.

I dont even know where to really start for a sums up of missed / relevant Things for you Storywise. Trailer 1: WoW Classic - The Gate at the Start, was the Gate of Ironforge (Dwarfen Capital). Minotaur/Bull Creature is called Tauren. Sylvanas Windrunner (Former Highelf and Former Ranger General of Silvermoon (High elven / later Blood elven Capital)) is a so called "Banshee Queen", this happens when you meet Arthas Menethil aka. The Lichking (Seen on Trailer 3 Wrath of the Lich King). The Lichking did Invade Said Capital, because the of the Sunwell, if i remember correctly. (Deep Lore, dont put it here yet, but interesting to Read) Sylvanas try'd defending her Home and Arthas got her Soul ripped out and so she was transformed into a Banshee (Vengeful Ghost) and so she was Part of his Army now. Later on in Wrath of The Lich King, Sylvanas broke free of his Grasp and reclaimed her Body - The Banshee Queen was born. She was looking for more People like her own (Undeads etc.) to avenge her Death with Killing the Scourge (Army of the Lichking) and the Lichking himself. The "Forsaken Clan" would be borne and with Sylvanas as Leader, they joined the Horde. As a few Comments stated : The Shadowlands Lichking is the 2nd one, Bolvar Fordragon, once a General of the Alliance who got "killed and revived" at an accident at the Wrathgate... That's why in the Shadowlands Trailer, he suddenly has a Burning Chest etc. In the Legion Cinematic you see Varian Wrynn, former Leader of the Alliance and Anduin Wrynn his Son. His Son took over the Alliance by the next Expansion "Battle for Azeroth", as a young naive boy. The Furry is Greymane i think he's called. A Worgen (Werewolf) which joined the Alliance Faction in Cataclysm. The Grey Haired Orc in BFA (Battle for Azeroth) is Varuk Saurfang, once Warlord of the Horde. The Second Orc with Blackish Hair and later with a bit of grey in it, is Thrall the Founder of the Horde and the First Leader of the Horde. This Story began back in 2000 with Warcraft 3 and the Expansion "The Frozen Throne". Last Thing i want to say, as a comment below me stated - Why is Anduin so broken in the last Cinematic. Well, in the Shadowlands, there was a Big Bad Evil, called "The Jailor" who in Terms put Anduin in an Armor who Mindcontrolled him, with him witnessing everything he has done. That's why he's thinking / Stating that it was his Fault and after all i have done etc. Hope this Helps a bit, it's ofc not everything to say but mostly what you need in Terns of Context to understand most of it.

I think if you don't know anything about the characters that appear in the trailers, it's hard to understand what exactly it's about. And you don't understand the trailer the way it's supposed to be. 7:34 Illidan Stormrage, or the Betrayer and first Demon Hunter. Lord of the Outland, ruler of the Black Temple, Leader of Illidari. The plan was for Arthas to find the blade and use it. 8:44 The Song: An Karanir Thanagor - Long lives the King Mor Ok Angalor - May he reign forever Mor OK Gorum - May his strength fail him never Pala uh'm - First in Battle Ravali ah'm - Last in retreat. And opinions differ a little. 13:24 Deathwing (Neltharion before), one of the five Dragon Aspects and the leader of the black Dragonflight. He was "commissioned" years earlier by the pantheon to watch over Azeroth. However, he was driven mad by the old gods and, roughly speaking, he gave up his position and became the Aspect of Death. And I believe he was also leader of the Orcs for a short time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4jCmWOnm56ppqM 28:37 Anduin Llane Wrynn is a Priest, King of Stormwind, High King of the Alliance and leader of the troops at this time. As a child, his father was kidnapped (WoW Legion) and he had to rule under the supervision of Bolvar Fordragon and the advise of Lady Katrana Prestor. But Katrana ruled behind his back, receiving orders from Black Dragon Onyxia. 34:08 Another important character in the Warcraft story. Thrall (Birthname Go'el) He is the son of Durotan and Draka (Warcraft the Movie). Former warchief of the former shamanistic Horde. His parents were murdered by order of Gul'dan, shortly after his birth. This can also be seen in the Warcraft movie. Yes, I'm very bored. 🤣 But I love the Warcraft saga and hope I don't make any mistakes in the story. 46:07 No, that is NOT Arthas, it is Bolvar Fordragon. He has decided to be the Lich King after the death of Arthas. There must ALWAYS be a Lich King to control the undead (except the Forsaken). We remember Bolvor stood by Anduin when Anduin was a child. 1:00:07 Sargeras Sword called Gorribal a piece of Gorshalach. At the End of WoW Legion he rammed his Sword into Azeroths. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmK7nqiYnK6sp5Y Sargeras is a fallen Titan and creator of the Burning Legion. Once he was the Champion of the Pantheon, chosen to defend the worlds. Pantheon = A group of Titans, building worlds and guarding the universe while they searched for others of their kind. I really hope that it helps some people to understand the trailer better. Make Love not Warcraft. Please forgives the "bad" English and possible mistakes, had to translate a lot.

Deathwing is an ancient dragon imprisoned for centuries who escapes, intent on revenge, destroying half the world before being defeated.
@Excesse899 ай бұрын
that sword it's called Frostmourne one of the most iconic weapon af all times in WOW...and the dragon it's called Cindragosa one of the Ice Crown Citadell bosses before Arthas The Lich King
@billcipher31807 ай бұрын
Deathwing(formerly Neltharion) went insane after he basically became a shadow priest to "protect the world" from the Primalists(dragons who practiced some form of shamanism)... all he had to do was show some religious tolerance as they rebelled because apparently it was not okay for a dragon to practice shamanism and the funny rock men known as the titans decreed that all unborn dragons must be corrupted by their "order magic" which makes it so they can't be shamans(also I like how ALL magic corrupts even the ones that would normally be considered good in a setting like this) also Alexstrasza used to have a shaman GF before her "religious zealot" phase(so if Alexstrasza does this kind of shit she is a hero but when the scarlet crusade does it they are pure evil?)

u gota watch the animated shorts that came with some of these expacs :D edit: just realised "Old Soldier" wasnt in this. It was one of the BFA cinematics that takes place just before the official BFA cinematic >:(
@TheOfficialV210 ай бұрын
Originally, I did react to that cinematic and uploaded it however before the video was published for everyone one to see, blizzard themselves copyrighted the video to the point where it wouldn’t be viewable in a lot of countries. Why they would do that, I have no idea 🤷♂️
@popfloydplays78810 ай бұрын
@@TheOfficialV2 it's a weird issue with Old Soldier specifically, everyone seems to have the same problem with it. By the way, try checking out all the Legion cutscenes/cinematics! They give context for a lot of the stuff you saw, like the giant sword. Legion cinematic suggestions... -"Harbingers: illidan" -"Harbingers: Khadgar" -"Harbingers: Gul'dan" -"The Broken Shore"(2 versions/perspectives depending on if you're Alliance or Horde) -The Nighthold ending/finale -The Tomb of Sargeras trailer -The Tomb of Sargeras ending/finale -Shadows of Argus trailer -"Rejection of the gift" cinematic -Antorus ending cinematic(this is the most important one for context, it caused the Battle for Azeroth expansion and gives context for the War Within expansion) -"Defeat of the Burning Legion"/Legion ending cinematic(2 versions/perspectives, depending on if you're Alliance or Horde)

@@TheOfficialV2 Hopefully you can find a way around the copywrite issues. Just to be clear, most people are referring to three specific series of animated shorts...Lords of War, Harbingers, and Warbringers. They contain some of the best storytelling in the entire franchise.

With the full context of the story behind the Warlords of Draenor cinematic, that thing goes so damn hard
@krodatem7 ай бұрын
To fully understand the Warlords of Draenor trailer, you need to know a good bit of the lore. Basically, the guy in the leather hood (Garrosh Hellscream) traveled from the present to the past to stop the orcs of Draenor from accepting the fel (the green goo in the cup) and that changed the timeline. This is why Gul'dan says, "This was not our destiny." And Garrosh says, "Times change."

Got yourself a sub here, there are a few ones you missed tbh, you should definitely react to the 2nd part of the Legion Cinematic, also you should watch all the Warbringers animated shorts, my personal favorites are the Illidan and Jaina ones.
@АндрейБойко-т7с10 ай бұрын
You simply must watch "Warbringers: Sylvanas" and "Old Soldier". The first video focuses on Sylvanas' backstory, while the second tells a bit more about Saurfang.

if you want to know more you will need to watch the ingame cutscenes. that sword is from the end of legion cutscene. you also should watch the end cutscene of wrath of the lich king to understnd why the lich king is all fiery now ^^

Even though I've watched it all, your personality is so likable, and such wholesome / genuine / authentic reactions (without that artificial streamer hype some people have), that I watched it all :D ! I wish I had a friend like you man. I'm a WoW player who got into FFXIV not too long ago, and I'm currently almost at Shadowbringers and I'm enjoying it. :D I love both games, FFXIV for the casual content / wholesome community, WoW for the raids / pvp and lore that is so far and deep. There's a lot of mini painted style cinematic in between that have more lore. Great video, subbed! :D

For me as a passionate WOW Player it was insane to see this reactions - i love it. If you would like to see more of the story (and especially more of sylvanas) watch the in-game cinematics (especially from the Shadowlands addon). There is a lot of story about Sylvanas and Anduin. These are so great. Have fun :)

You should check out their "mini" cinematics, "Lords of War", "Harbingers", "Warbringers", "Afterlives" (in that order). They are a lot more lore heavy and, in my opinion, better than the main cinematics. Each one is tied to the story of a specific expansion. "Lords of War" is tied to "Warlords of Draenor". "Harbingers" is tied to "Legion". "Warbringers" is tied to "Battle for Azeroth". "Afterlives" is tied to "Shadowlands". There is also a bonus series called "The Burdens of Shaohao" that is tied to "Mists of Pandaria".

@caffeinedelusions3 ай бұрын
Warlords of Draenor as an expansion is kind of a hard sell because it requires being read in on some of the early lore covering the history of the Horde, how it was used as a tool of the Burning Legion. The short version is that a deposed Orcish political leader used the help of a time dragon to go back to the moment where his father became the first link enslaving his people, and rewrote history to instead create a version of the Horde with his father as Warchief. He then used that alternate-history Horde to try to invade the present, forcing the heroes of Azeroth to travel to that splinter-timeline to dismantle the threat of the Iron Horde at its source.

the rule since wrath of the lich king was there must always be a lich king to separate the worlds and keep the veil intact so when we defeated the original lich king a high paladin named bolvar fordragon wore the crown took arthas's place as the lich king to keep the peace and hold the veil, bolvar is lich king who sylvannas is fighting in shadowlands thats why he doesnt have his sword anymore
