It's here! In this episode of RoaR we look closer at the Allagan Empire from Final Fantasy XIV 1.0! Was Xande a thing in 1.0? Did Crystal Tower exist back then? Did we use tomestones for endgame content? These questions and more will be answered in this episode of Remnants of a Realm! Hope you enjoy!

Xandes Tomb was one of the many mysterious places in 1.0 hidden away behind high level mobs that you could sneak past. It was always there, just repurposed for later storylines. I remember doing a world tour with my friend and this cave was one of the most memorable.

I don't know if y'all are even planning on continuing this series, but as someone who started XIV extremely late (5.0) I really love this series. The narration is fantastic and I really love being able to see what the game was, hear of the almost lost lore. I'm not sure if there is anything else to do with this series, but I'd be thrilled to see Gelmorra explored or anything else from 1.0 days.

I had to come back to this video now that we are on the horizon of 6.0 which is the supposed conclusion to the current story. I say supposed for a couple reasons. 1) Shadowbringers saw the usage of older assets and ideas such as those seen in project rapture, and the original trailer for 1.0. That plus the announcement of sharlayan where Yoshi P revealed that they are now concluding on the original idea to have all of the main cities that were planned in 1.0, that being limsa, gridania, uldah, ishgard, alamigo, and now sharlayan. We also saw over the weekends fanfest that they plan on incorporating the twelve. This is super interesting since we really haven't heard much about them since the calamity. 2) With the usage of older assets, and the confirmation that we are roughly following some of the plot points and ideas left behind from the original 1.0 team, I think things like "Xandes Tomb", "Gelmorra", and (unless taken care of in 6.0) the twelve, and the primals. It seems like we cant REALLY get rid of them. Or can we? We see all of the primals shooting out of the aether in the 1.0 cinematic. If the 6.0 story is going to wrap up the current bid deal plot points, then maybe the smaller stories that Yoshi P said he planned on telling afterwards will be those that never saw fruition in the past. Maybe he needed all of the city states and previous plot points properly elaborated on before those other ones could properly make sense. Im not sure if anyone will see this since the video is a couple years old now, but if you have any input on what you think I'd be glad to discuss.

@@Metis1337 Yeah they tip toed around certain things, that Yoshi P, kinda hyped up more, but if you noticed the stuff on the map on the walls in sharlyan then you probably saw some of the older map content stuff on there and not to spoil but they do make mention of potential places we will go later. They technically wrapped everything up though except the "Twelve" stuff, which is barley anything anyways as of now.

One rather obvious solution for the mystery in the end of the video is that the faith of the Twelve survived among the lower classes (and/)or frontiers of the Allagan empire and it would also explain why the runestones would be the first items of Allag to be discovered in "modern" times as they would been in more remote places while core region(s) of the Allagan empire seemed to cloak itself from discovery pre-shattering.

And I think the lore of the tower was that when they tried channeling power down from Dalamud, it caused a massive earthquake (coinciding at a rejoining and thus a calamity), causing the tower to sink into the ground, but Amon froze the tower and it's occupants in time until a day when they could restore the Emperor. Some time after the Calamity at Carteneau, the tower somehow rose back from the ground. I think I'll see if I can find citations for this.

19:49 Xande's Tomb / Cave was definitely in pre-ARR 1.0, but perhaps was patched in when they started doing all the Dalamud stuff? Looks like I can't post a link without getting my youtube comment deleted, but there's an older post on the official forums with photos of that Tomb, where the person who posted them said it was "one of the twelve stone locations for the 'Living On a Prayer Quest' where we had to make a pilgrimage to all 12 stones and 'pray' to the Twelve for strength to stop the incoming Dalamud" It was apparently located in Mor Dhona.

Xande's tomb was there since the launch of 1.0. It gained importance after some punk vandalized it by carving Thaliak's sigil on it. When the sigil was added for the "Living in a prayer" quest, they changed the name to "Crystal Shrine" if memory serves, but before that the same monument was there minus the sigil and the ethereal glow on the central crystal. I visited the tomb before it was changed a few times on my Dragoon, I was fascinated by it, to this day I still boot up 1.0 to visit the old maps and the tomb is still one of my favorite places to go.

Man I really miss this series! I have long chronicled the few things I remembered in my very miniscule time in 1.0, and have had a lot of fun literally watching each and every one of these. So many things I never got to see, and to see how they adapted the world as best they could trying to outright retcon land as little as possible was pretty great. I doubt there will ever be a story-based rebirth in an MMO like ARR.

I honestly never went to that side of the Mor Dhona map during the original launch of 1.0. But, The Tomb of Xandes was there when the job system launched cause I remember coming upon it when exploring the zone on my Monk. So, maybe it was patched in? I am not sure. I just remember that on 1.0 launch that area being filled with many 70+ monsters to prevent people from exploring over there.

I get the feeling that the Crystal Tower wasn't meant to be a tower at all. Given the cutscene mentioned with the beasties and the light in it, the thing beneath, focus on the moon... Coupled with the fact that the crystal looks shockingly like Aetheryte... I get the feeling that at one point you were going to go to the moon. In many FF games the moon plays a part - it's usually full of monsters or houses some big bad and you need some ancient technology of some sort to get there. Imagine what is now the crystal tower was just a big transporter that could suck up or deposit things between Eorzea and the moon. I mean technically they're still using that kind of plot given Zodiark is most likely imprisoned within the remaining moon. FF loves its moon lore. Worth a thought?

I'm watching this about 5 minutes before Endwalker is supposed to launch (for early access). I'm fascinated by the mention that Menphina's sigil on the Allagan runestone features two moons despite the fact that the Allagans created one of those moons. Now here we are, about to travel to the larger moon. And the god they chose for the XP earring for this expansion was Menphina. Something tells me this tiny detail has been bugging the writers, including Koji Fox, since way back in 2.0, and we're about to be introduced to another moon of the larger moon, one connected to the Ascians. 2 minutes left to launch now. We're about to find out!

So as of 5.4, well to be honest since the conclusion of the Crystal Tower raid storyline, that presence is still there given Nero's device picking something up in the depths of the pit containing the Crystal Tower prior to its reawakening. What it is though is still up for debate. Is it Zodiark? Is it Hydaelyn? Is it the soul of the world itself? I'd love to find out if I'm being honest.

I guess I just didn't give any thought to the idea of it being called "Xandes Tomb" because there were literally two Xandes in the plotline, atleast since ARR expounded on the Crystal Tower storyline. You've got the first Xande who made Allag the great nation it was, and then you have Amon's Xande clone whose work culminated with Dalamud. Though it's not common knowledge in Eorzea that Xande the Second was a clone, history does show that there were atleast two, and so I just imagined that the cave's name had something to do with that.

At the end of CT doesn't Nero still detect a presence below on his scanner before tossing it into the abyss? I always thought that this could be reference to Omega, which could be another reason why Midgarsomr came to Silvertear's defense to make sure Omega would remain untouched? That's the way I currently see it with what we got, however something always weighed heavy in my gut telling me that Hydaelyn is down there. Either we'll never know or perhaps soon find out at the end of this expansion's arc.
@ajayrious
@ajayrious 4 жыл бұрын
Omega was buried under Cartenau and we already knew that before Nero tossed the device in there, so its unlikely he was detecting Omega. I'm sure they probably now would link it with the device we used to get to the First in ShB, though of course that wasnt conceived back then. Originally it was probably meant to be a reference to Eureka, which was beneath Crystal Tower in Final Fantasy 3.
@Shiirow
@Shiirow 4 жыл бұрын
I love that little note there, after he abandons his little meter device, and tosses it into the abyss under the tower... you hear the faint beeping as it detects something. I always had a feeling _something_ would come of it at a later point. Even the most simplistic tease ends up being a thing down the road, even if it takes two expansions.
@i.147

Dont forget that the REAL Eureka is supposed to be beneath the Crystal Tower (at least that's what G'raha thought). The "Eureka" we visit is actually the Isle of Val. During the Eureka questline, Krile recalls a discussion between G'raha, Galuf and other Baldesion founders that she overheard : it was about Eureka and the Crystal Tower, it seemed Galuf and the founders knew something about it but kept it secret, leaving G'raha confused if he had said something wrong. The real Eureka was never found, and its supposed to hide Allag's most powerful weapon (implying that Ultima, despite being powered with the Heart of Sabik, wasn't their strongest one...). It cannot be Omega since not only it wasnt an Allagan creation, it was also buried in Carteneau. This new weapon could very well be the presence. Im also hoping that it's the reason why we didnt get a re-arrangement of the FF3 Eureka theme, and that they were actually keeping it for later :)

I think you're right about Hydaelyn being down there, at the very least her physical form. We know from the 3.0 story, Hydaelyn resides in the atherial sea, which we use the Anti-tower in order to access. But I think its more so that her consciousness resides in the atherial sea, as it's basically the lifestream of ff14. We're pretty damn certain now that Zodiark's husk of a body is sealed within the moon and in fact that scene in 3.0 where we vist the atherial sea to talk with Minfilia/Hydaelyn, she notes herself that she sealed him "moon bound". The fact Midgarsomr was guarding silvertear is a huge sign of something important being there, I know in 1.0 its heavily implied it was because Eikons were essentially trapped within it but I feel like there was more meaning than just that. We know when Midgarsomr came to the planet he made a deal with Hydaelyn to protect her, and since 1.0 to current its been mentioned by the dev team and even mentioned by NPC's in game that theres something below silvertear still. I think we're close to getting answers in 5.55 and 6.0. Silvertear has also been mentioned many times over to be the fount of boundless aetheric energy, so It's also likely it could be connected to the Atherial sea much like the Anti-tower was. Or that because Hydaelyn's physical form is sealed beneath it, and that is why Aether is so strongly tied to it. Lots of questions, fingers crossed we finally get answers soon.

You sort of glossed over them, but what exactly is the lore with tomestones? I’d love to see you talk about them.
@heavylancer6720
@heavylancer6720 4 жыл бұрын
From what I know, they are basically devices similiar to solid state drives, used to store information. The Allagans had all sorts of information and secrets stored onto these drives, a veritable truckload, like battle tactics, mythology, demonology, the fantastic, truths, untruths, creation, lore and much more. They are exchanged as currency so that organizations such as Garlond Ironworks and weaponsmoths like Rowena can make use of the vast amount knowledge stored within. Rarer tomestones justify stronger and rarer gear or materials as a reward.
@josephmahar8809
@josephmahar8809 4 жыл бұрын
Tomestones are small pieces of Allagan technology that contain massive amounts of data on them. Because the Allagan Empire was so sprawling (at its peak before it became stagnant and decadent) it's the reason why you can get them for doing activities and old dungeons. Tomestones are found by adventurers in Eorzea, who then turn them into places like Rowena's who in turn sells them to collectors. My personal theory is, because there's so many, and have so much info, the content inside each tomestone varies in "worth", which is why some tomestones give end-game gear, and others become obsolete. In essence, tomestones are basically the equivalent of portable hard drives or flash drives. If we today were to have our own Calamity, the survivors would find old records of us. Because the technology is so wide-spread, people would find mundane/trivial info (music, fiction, porn, etc.) and valuable info (historical records, art, porn, etc) which would make some worth more than others.

it almost feels like the next expansion will finally pick up bits and pieces of the 1.0 story and continue it or at least finish it

Well considering that Midgardsomr is tied to Hydaelyn, that "presence" could be easily retconned into her. Also religion isn't easy to get rid of. Worship likely still happened among the masses. Remember that the Allagan Empire was revealed to be another project orchestrated by Emet-Selch. It's likely he did the same tricks with banning religious motifs as he did in Garlemald.

I think that was for whatever the video was showing when it came out. So that was on the footage there, not added by Lukile or whoever does the editing.

1.0 looked like a hot mess but those motion capture cutscenes are so much better than the Garry's Mod bullshit that came with ARR and is still used to this day. Every emotion in scenes looks like somebody dragged and dropped parts of peoples face like in the opening of Mario 64.

also, the texturing of the WHM robes. I hope we can get back to that level of detail in the game and back to the physics the game once had, even if only outside combat as I can tell they would hinder us in certain fights.
