Definitely a weakness FF14 has vs WoW. The transmogrification process in WoW is great for not needing to store the items to keep the appearance of items. I’d love a similar system for glamours where you only need to have possessed the item to get the appearance and don’t need to use inventory space for it.

Wow lucked out in that it's coding and function for armor and items fortunately fell in line for the transmog system they implemented years later . Unlike say the starting backpack issue which had spagetti code so horrific it was only fixed and changed more than a decade later. There are a lot of examples of this in any mmo. Gw2 has a load of them, terrible ones, but managed to have a multichannel dye system for its glams which works great. Ffxiv is not so lucky. You can even see they intended to have multi channel dyes but it didn't work out. Hopefully they can set aside the time and dev resources to work the entire thing put but 90% of the time there will always be something else which takes priority just due to how cumbersome it will be to find, test and finally implement a solution which doesn't explode the servers too badly that it can't be fixed after going live.

Considering how much Glamour is seen as the true End Game for some, an overhaul of that system would be nice in the next chapter. Glambringer? Glamwalker? Glamwards?

The primary difference is dyability, which means that the dresser is storing a unique item, instead of your account just being flagged as owning the appearance.

it is as phydeaux pointed out. the retainer issue is because of how retainers act as a 'container' and the retainer spagetti code if you do not store dyes or any other special info on a gear, it can be easy items are lines of code in memory containing: item id (what is then used to parse the item database to get the actual stats and appearance of item) item location item modifications ...repeat for more modification options... the dresser removes modifications of: materia, spiritbond, who crafted, durability if you have say a book of fashion, where everythings position is fixed and not customized by player. then each item can be reduced to just a single bit a 0/1 of present or not and have the structure [position in the matrix that is the fixed position fashion book] correspond to the item id

I thought they made it fairly obvious this was just meant as a improvement to the system specifically for glamouring your retainers. It's absolutely not much of anything in terms of glamouring your own character but this is a huge improvement for changing the glamours on your retainer, something they already worked on improving with last patch and that used to be an extremely annoying process

I frankly LOVE this system to help glam my retainers. It was SUCH a pain to do so before. I would either have to equip the gear, or take shit out of my dresser and waste prisms, OR get a second copy of the item to store on my retainer directly. And since I have many female retainers glamming and dying gender-locked clothes was a nightmare. so now I have EVERYTHING available in one menu for me to finally have an easy time glamming them. Actually I was having such issues glamming my retainers that I've neglected giving them better armor since I like keeping them to specific glams, and having to redo the whole process was so time and resource consuming that I just decided to not upgrade gear when it wasn't necessary for progression. Now hopefully my perfectionist mind can stop being so anxious about gearing my retainers properly.

I feel there MUST be a technical limitation as to why we cant do this with the glamour dresser. But considering the glamour dresser is already hard locked to the Inn. I dunno. This just seems so freaking backwards. I cant see myself using this at all. We embraced the glamour dresser, as a way to automatically glamour our gear in sets now its a weird pick and choose from retainer? that will just be overwritten again by the glamour dresser. Feels like a wasted effort. ngl.

I agree. The fact I've heard people try to explain just how game-breaking it would be to try and implement the glamour dresser into a house, just like you have your retainer bell and armoire, makes me think there's some kind of system they've overlooked and now they're a wee bit stuck. >.

@@teganismxx It is only a matter of time. I think they are afraid of server demand...like when Endwalker came out. It was ridiculous, but they didn't prepare properly. Adding the load of potentially 100's of items, to every single character, for a dresser that can also be moved ( by player and shared tenants, etc.) might be more of a strain than they want to risk.. The company chests would be something similar, but they prepared and expected its demand. As they continue to upgrade servers, and become more prepared (I hope), it should be easier to handle the demand. ---This is just what I think.

I feel like this is most useful for those with a full glam dresser, or moreso, for those random items you won't ever use for a glam, but need for fashion report. Then you can leave them on a retainer instead of taking up a glamour dresser slot/glamour plate

Due to the Glamour Dresser keeping your item, with your dye already assigned to it... the dresser is a type of storage, like an 800 slot retainer. So it isn't as easy as just flagging that you own a specific item number. The way that Glamour Plates are built in the backend, requires you to be in an instanced area, which is why you have to manage glamour plates in an Inn, and can't at a captial city or even in your own house or apartment, since they are public areas. if they ever remove the dresser and make a flagging type system like Guild Wars and WoW have, then you will see people complain that they can't store as many items that are pre-dyed. So I suspect that they would have to replace the entire system, then re-provide a way to save dyed items. This solution isn't amazing, but it is nice to have better access to the glamour stored on retainers. I am 800/800 on my dresseer, and have 2 retainers at 175/175 with only glamour, then all of the relics on third, will new spill-over glamour on it as well.

I think it makes sense because they already updated the retainer glamours to do this, and it means they know the glam dresser isn't enough and people put glamour in their retainers. It's definitely a bandaid fix but I can see how this helps people, I know Zepla complained about having to pull things out of her retainers to put on a glam plate. Also reminder you can glam things individually from the glam dresser if you don't open the plates and just click on them, but not the armoire previously, so I think that's cool I can access the armoire for individual pieces. It's similar to how you can glam squadrons aswell. Thanks for the video! I didn't know where to look when I saw the pop up.

As far as glamours go, the only improvement I want and need is more glamour plates. As someone that has nearly every job maxed out, it’s disappointing not having enough plates to at least cover every job.

Part of me thinks that they could assign plates to the jobs themselves then have space for a general category. Granted this would eat up a lot of data for player memory but it would be good for organization and fixing the stupid glamor plate linking system that keeps breaking portraits. Actually the lack of memory and storage is likely the main issue behind the current bottleneck for glam plates. Plus optimizing the system by doing it from the ground up and more tied into the modern systems might help in that department too. If each job could get between two to four plates then give five to ten plates for general use/universal costumes I would LOVE it. Lastly I think we need a new kind of item for glam. We have the emperor items to make something blank, but there's another scenario in glamming that I hate: when for one glam you NEED the base item appearance, but in another glam or a different job's glam, using the same gear, you want to actually glam it. For example: I want my summoner to have the base Abyssos gear but for my red mage, which uses the same gear, I want a coat glammed on top. The easy solution is to glam with the normal tier version but then I cannot glam it green or purple, etc. I have to sacrifice part of the glam process on the gear. There should be an item that when glammed, it does NOTHING except display the item as it originally appears EXCEPT it could also hold dyes that apply to the base gear it's glammed on. Thus you can have a glam with a chest piece that's completely unaltered, a glam with the same chest piece but dyed, and then a third glam using the same chest piece that has a nice coat glammed on top. And when you change back to the first glam, you still see the base item.

Not sure if this has been already addressed, but you can use the retainer glamor just by summoning them anywhere. Not just in the inn room. Did it in Radz-at-Han recently and just checked at the Gold Saucer to make sure I wasn't just imagining it.

I kinda admire Square Enix's efforts to NOT give the easiest option for players, (a gallery with all the skins you already unlocked in it) and instead stick to convoluted methods to overcome the obstacles they create themselves.

It would be a lot better if the dresser pulled from the inventory of the reteiners. Because when you're shufling in their inventory, there's no preview window or any way to mount a glamour plate with the itens.

The concept is good only if you could access it from any retainer Bell in any location like if you're in an area that doesn't have a glamor plate access you can use it via the Bell summoning Bell

My guess is it's the same/similar issues they were originally running with when they were 1st implementing the summoning bell, crystal bell, etc. that they are currently facing with making the glamour dresser as furnishings. Where on the test servers anytime someone was using the furnishing itself but someone else was moving furniture, it would crash the entire server. That's at least my guess. However! I am VERY interested in the new glamour system for Island Sanctuary they've implemented & I'm honestly hoping this is good news for the future with housing furniture in the wards. It'll make things alot easier especially on that furnishing cap.

There is something that feels kind of backwards about putting another glam option in this way. I may use it for glaming all my relic replicas since I don't really change weapon glams all that often but anything else feels like a waste of time and I'd rather just have it on a glamour plate so I don't have to worry about accidentally ruining it cause of a job it shares gear with.

Is it just me or did they partially break glamour plate links in this patch? They still work but now any time i swap between jobs that share gear, but with different plates, it applies the glam normally but always complains now that glamours couldnt be restored. Never used to do that

So flexibility to access most stores but on a one-by-one glamour. VS Setting up Plates You still will have to /isearch to find where the item is. And it does not include saddlebags. Yea is good for retainer. Can we just have 10,000 slots in the glamour dresser :) Or just make all items you have ever bound available to glamour without holding on to the item. But Storage is a money maker for SE.. like I have all the retainers and all but two are for gear.

It feels like it is for the Retainer Glam, but they added character glam as an option and then marketed it towards character glam.

Yea this isn't meant to replace anything dawg. This is purely a better way to glam your retainers. So maybe look at it that way since using this to replace the current system doesn't make sense at all and I'm pretty sure that wasn't what was intended either. Also the reason I believe the dresser doesn't use the retainer inventory is because that inventory isn't purely for equipment, which means empty list slots and generally a clunky presentation. Perhaps they'll add a new glamour inventory to retainers, but I doubt it.

I feel like a few of the things in this patch are things they're "testing" for future improvement, including this. Eta: I'm not as big of a fan of WoW's glamour system as others are but maybe they should look into how other games do glamour and take some notes. This system is just a bit outdated.

the glamour sys is fine wish they would add the ability to get more glam plates in the dresser or tab system for each job 20 slots is not enough unless you use 1 slot per job also expand the armory my retainers are holding all my higher lvl gear for lower level jobs that i haven't leveled up yet but don't want to sell the gear just to rebuy it later when i level a new job up.

The Armoire really should be able to store every tier of our relic and the glam-only versions to free up dresser space. The devs can easily hard-code it, given enough available memory space, since they know the exact number of relic weapons that are available and will be available ahead of time. Also the same should be done with recolors/upgraded versions of old artifact armors. the originals are storable, but not the upgraded ones given in coffers that now get rewarded. Also maybe the gear from PvP should be storable in the Armoire, especially the GARO event gear seeing as how it's gear from an event.

The should really just give us a book with all the gear available and then have it registered so you can toss it once collected like in wow. The transmog book truly is the best I've seen, and it's fun to fill in. Unfortunately item space in ffxiv withholds most from getting all the glamours out there. ofc this would lead to people needing less retainers for glams to store outside the dresser, which means less money for them. I really hope they will just give us a book some day, more so so that we can see what is out there to get too 😊

Imagine being a retainer and being named Squishybutt. Agreed though, I suspect the glamour dresser and plates were meant to be the replacement for per-item glamouring. I would have expected an expansion of the dresser: the dresser being able to access retainer inventories when not summoned, increased item slots, increased plates, allowing us to place dressers in personal housing, etc. Hopefully this is just an intermediary step. Otherwise I don't see myself using this much due to conflicting with the dresser.

Glamour has always been weird confusing clunky to me. They just gave us 3rd location to pull from it sounds like, making it even more clunky lol. After playing a dozen different MMO's, the easiest system for me currently is ESO. Lotro bothers me because they locked their wardrobe system behind the points, their real money currency. And after 2 years of festivals I made an alt dedicated to collecting festival outfits. And the wardrobe system requires you use a dye on each piece individually. Whuch I guess ffxiv does also but the amount of dyes to add is absurdly higher on lotro

Definitely agree that the retainer glamour needs to be overhauled further. Specifically the Dresser needs to be expanded way further, retainers should get the same kind of UI as the dresser for glamming, even the possible inclusion of their own dedicated glamour plates. Also in the future retainers should be a way to access the entire glam system from outside of an inn room. Further to solve the issue of "tied" glam plates, have plates directly assigned to classes and jobs then have a "general" plate section. Then when setting up gear sets you can more directly tie them to a plate when generating them. Perhaps also allow them to go into the backend and fix the portrait syncing issues since it's tied to plates. Lastly we still need an item that can be put on a glam plate that acts as a "blank" so we can use an "unglammed" armor piece as a part of an outfit while still being able to glam over it for a different outfit or different job's outfit. Ostensibly the gear just "glamours" the base gear being glammed onto itself for the sake of glamour plate usage. So if I have a savage chest piece, by using a "blank" gear on the plate, the armor is "glammed" as the savage chest piece. The fact that I cannot use both my Savage tier armor unglamoured AND have a glam for a job that uses the same exact armor is infuriating. I want to use the Savage gear on my SMN but HATE the look on my RDM. I HAVE to glam them both so I can keep my SMN and RDM looking distinct, or not at all to use the armor look. And if I use the normal tier armor for my SMN glam I can't dye it.

This is a nice change! Reason: You can now access your glamour dresser and armory items from inside your house or apartment! It would be much better if you could edit glamour plates from retainer bells too, but this is a small improvement. Nice!

Honestly, they need to rework all these systems and roll them all into one. The Glamour Dresser, Armoire, Calamity Salvager, Recompense Officer, and whatever else I can't think of right now, it all needs to be redone into a unified system. Especially the Mogstation. Purchases need to not be mailed to your character as actual items you can delete, but instead placed directly into this new system where you can access them permanently without fear of loss.

As a 'step' towards improving the system I like this. But ultimately the thing that needs doing is glamour dressers in housing. I have never bought the 'tech limitation' argument since, as an engineer, I know that tech limits are usually budget limits. If FFXIV is as profitable as SE claims (and they can waste money on NFTs) then they can certainly do this.

Im pretty sure you did the contrary on that. It default to selecting the retaienr because thats the base you want to glamour, not your own character. Unless you wanted to show on your character. But that whole new system is FOR the retainer, which is a huge update. I dont think this was ever meant for your own character, the option is there if you want but that's not the point lol. The way you used to glam a retaienr before was a pain in the butt. You had to glam manually the gear then give it to the retainer. I just think you read this whole glam update the wrong way

Genuinely feel that the only way to fully please players would be to start from scratch with this one. I know nothing about coding though, so I guess it is very time consuming and expensive to do, so I don't expect them to do it. I just feel like you can't 'feature add' your way out of this one; we'd need the glamour dresser to be freely accessed from non-instanced areas like the armoire in order to have truly significant QoL imporovements going forward. I do appreciate the attempt, though. At least they understand the ongoing issue for players.

Hope they can make glamour bypass job specific outfits someday. Like dont let us use the ninja weapon as paladin as a costume but let healers use mechanist outfit for example. And make it so the level doesnt affect who can wear the glamour anytime. Serioisly, its disappointing healers get onlh "robes" yet i want to wear stuff that ninja/others get to have..

They really should consider going the WoW route and having every single item avalible on a tab and inform where to get those unavalible. They could even integrate on the plot. You give the armor to Tatatu and she will unlock it on this new system (her store). You will pay with glamours prisms of gil to reskin the current armor or even the slot of the current gear set slot.

The main reason was this was a quick fix because the original Galmour dresser programmers aren't there so this was a way to increase the amount without having to rewrite the code. At least that's how it was explained to me

It's not a bad step forward, but I'm hoping for an overhaul to the glamour system, where we can just bypass the glamor dresser entirely. Then there will never be a need to ask for dressers in your residences.

For the "manual" Glamour System that doesn't use the Dresser, i think this is a big improvement, actually. Everyone who tried to glamour their retainer once knows exactly what a massive hassle that used to be. Sure i would be more connvenient though if they somehow managed to bring all Glamour related features into once place.

I honestly think this is it. We know that the retainers are a call to "load" their items but now the whole Inn has the armoire, and dresser "loaded" so its just a matter of them figuring out how to keep retainers also as part of this system when NOT summoned so that their stuff can be called elsewhere: e.g. the dresser. From a programming point of view this definitely feels like a proof of concept being implemented for something more elaborate down the line.

Still, boggles my mind to this day. That the Armoire is so under used to this day. I still of the belief that if you buy crap from the FF14 Cash Store. All that crap should go into the Armoire. Not taking up the Dresser slots. Really, my personal beef with the number of slots is just that. It isn't too few. It is how they manage the whole glamor system.

I understand where they were going with this, but it looks like its failed miserably. Considering you need to be in the inn room first before you can use their items for glamour feels more restrictive than just going to a bell, unequipping whatever i have on my retainer, using it as glam, then returning it to my retainer. Same process when I want to give my retainer a glammed item but easier and in reverse.

FFXIV glamour system has got to be the most cumbersome system of any kind in any game I've ever had the displeasure of engaging with. I hope they figure outa way to streamline it all one day. As it stands they just keep tacking things onto it. It needs a massive overhaul. Glad they are still trying though.

Can I please get help? I have glamour plates assigned to gearsets. Before 6.4, whenever I equipped one of my jobs, nothing wrong would happen, and it would equip the gearset and then glamour plate just fine, automatically updating the gearset. Now whenever I change gearsets that automatically apply a glamour plate, it no longer updates the gearset and I get an error message saying that it couldn't find the specified gear for the glamour. It's applying the glamour and gear just fine, why is it saying that?

It seems like a good update. Easier to change glamour on retainer. The issues you mention dont make sense. Why would you want to change your own glamour to match your retainer. You probably would've already used your own glamour to glam your retainers. So it's a non issue. Glam your retainers from the new menu system. And do your own glamour from the dresser. Seems good to me. Now we just need considerably more glamour plates, cos 20 is nowhere near enough xD

The dresser is poorly coded and that's also why we will never get one as a furnishing item. It can only be placed in one co-ord set iirc. They admitted some time ago that it was coded oddly.

Yes, a good idea but no..this is a poor attempt imo. For a glam lover it's a slog really..no filters etc. We just need a glam dresser upgrade in some way. Certainly yet more storage and plates lol. Somehow linking the retainer inventory in to that dresser is indeed the way.

I don't really see the use of this way of doing things. It would have been better to just give access to the retainer inventory from the glamour dresser/plates editor. We are doing everything from this menu already, so why making us going back and forth between the glamour dresser and the retainers ?

I hope one of these days they can really dedicate the time to fixing and cleaning up all their menus and interfaces. I know it's all spaghetti code from 1.0, but it's unfortunate that even this many years into the game's development, the menus and UI are still so bad and genuinely amateur feeling compared to a lot of other games on the market. I know they consider it low priority in comparison to delivering new content, but dealing with crappy UI for the last decade has not by any means been a pleasant experience.

They definitely need to change glamour in its entirety, its definitely one of the weakest things in this game :( And also have Mogstation items be rebuyable from the Calamity Salvager.

This isn't a bad feature, its a good option and more options are needed... However, you're disappointed because its not exactly what's priority to you and that's the reason I'm also disappointed XD It's but clearly needs to be updated to where you don't need to call retainer. Also,... add THIS TO GLAMOUR DRESSEERRRRRRRR *dies* and where are my other plates!!?? >=O

I think you're viewing this backwards my man. This update isn't for glamming your character, it's meant for glamming your retainers. This is a massive step up from that. Yes, there should be no limit on the glam dresser, we all know that, but you're not using all 800 of those items, it's time for some cleaning.

And jesus if glamours could be any more complicated, they have achieved it, they should do a complete overhaul on glamouring, they need something like GW2 has, once you get the item the looks of that item is stored and enabled to be glamoured anywhere at any time you want. Having 3 different things to just do glamouring is stupid and overcomplicated.

Doesn't help you much that something that has not been invented yet will be better than what we have now... The question should be does it improve on parts of the glamour system, compared to what we had without the improvement...

Interesting idea badly implemented. If they can get to the glamour chest content from the retainer, why can't they get to the retainer items from the glamour dresser? Poor effort.

I believe that the wow system for glam from what I've seen could be integrated into ff14 so that the glam dresser showed off all the gear lock, and to unlock it, you had to put one of the same kind in to it with a prism then you would be able to use it that way

I hate to say it but glamour is a garbo system and any modifications just double down on the garbage. It needs to be scrapped. There has to be some serious spaghetti code keeping them from copy pasting WoW’s transmog. It’s practically industry standard at this point.
