I think hunts are the perfect example as one of many systems that the game gives you next to no information on If you're a new player. As someone that started in HW, I obviously know about them and how lucrative they can be, but unless your the type of person that goes out of their way to research on what hunts are as well as the reason for doing them, I'd hazard a guess that you (new players) are skipping entirely, not even aware of it's existence. This obviously isn't the first time something like this has happened and SE seriously needs to add some elaborate tutorials onto important game systems that are easily missable, GC ranks and squadrons being the most notable. They really need to improve more upon the new player experience.

I never even figured out about Squadrons until late into Stormblood, where I had to look up how to get the last two ranks in a GC. Still don't understand the system very well; I don't understand the idea behind new recruits once you have the 8-max.

I found a lot of players while leveling sam from 70 to 80, that didn't know about the beast tribe quest and how those dailies helps to boost exp while leveling. If you haven't done a video explaining it, it could be nice to have that. Sorry, english is not my mother language.

I feel like a lot of players blitz through the MSQ to get to the "end game" content, and end up missing out on a ton of fun activities. I always get people approaching me when I'm out fishing and asking me how to unlock it.

Unfortunately that's learned behaviour from other MMO's where the "fun" parts of the game aren't unlocked until end game. FFXIV really turned that on it's head

! feature mostly overlooked is grand company daily turn ins. its a fantastic and easy way to get into crafting, collect grand company seals, which are even required for unlock the hunt, and it doesnt take that long to create each of the items, even just nq. For everyone, just unlock each of the crafters, do the class quests for gear, and deliver daily for seals and easy leveling.

I really enjoy hunts. As a relatively new player (started in January) I first heard about "hunt linkshells" but then found that it was almost impossible to find one that wasn't full. So I saw them as kind of an elitist thing where you had to be in a secret club. Luckily I am now in a linkshell and discord helps a lot.

Dude! I’m on Aether Hunts too. We must have crossed paths. I love that community. Joined about a month ago. I used to be super casual in this game, playing a few months during each expansion to do MSQ’s and then leave again for a year... but then ShB came out and this has become by far my main MMO. I am surprised to discover a gameplay feature that I missed almost every week. Like last week I learned there’s a mega raid at the end of Eureka (and I learned OF Eureka a few weeks before that). Anyways, I appreciate your videos and hopefully get to /wave at you sometime.

One thing to add, if you have Blue Mage leveled, you can trade Allied Seals for grade 7 & 8 battle materia with Maudlin Latool Ja at x12.5, y13.0 in Ul'dah - Steps of Thal. I'm not exactly sure how far through the Blue Mage storyline you need to get to unlock it.

Coming from World of Warcraft I picked up on things that had analogues but totally missed this one. I had to go back and unlock it at Level 80. I've done them some but not a whole lot since. On my two new characters neither of them has been able to unlock anything more than the first round of company hunts while leveling in the 50s.

I used to have such a tight window to play and level most days. I had the perfect Hunt/Beast tribe/ FATE routine for 51-60. Like no Gil investment either maybe two teleports. starting at the one zone killing hunts while blitzing beast tribes and just zoning from zone to zone to kill hunts. level all the jobs from 50-60 pretty quick. just picking off challenge log while I go. was cramming like Quick roulettes while running around aswell. like 5 different things at once crammed into like 1-2 hours of play

I think it's possible to explain (as someone who's played for years but have an influx of new friends to the FC recently) is: 1. Materia 2. Squadrons and ranking up (sad state i know) 3. What a rotation is (no meme, but like actually what a rotation is and how it differs between jobs) 4. The difference between Ex, Savage and Ultimate? Maybe? 5. would like to ask an honest question. would a system that made S rank hunts invulnerable for the first 5 mins after they spawn be a true hindrance, currently on my server been running into people pulling arr s rank hunts as soon as they are called and them being lvl 80 they can damn near 3-4 man it not giving anyone a real chance to get to the hunt before its killed i would like to think that window of invulnerability would allow some people to actually show up for the hunt, as there is honestly no way for the players to stop people from pulling that quickly

Another important feature of hunts is that they're how you re-purchase HW relic gear, not the calamity salvager or other npc's for the other expansions. Before glamour chests were a thing I had to discard all my HW relic gear because I had no space for them, so finding out I had to do hunts to get them back was a bit of a surprise.

A feature new players need to know about? How to use retainers, how to level retainers, why to level retainers, CHOCOBO battle companions and GC turn ins. I've been helping a lot of new players lately and most don't even know they're a thing. Heck I ignored retainers after starting in HW all the way through to the end of Stormblood.

I do the daily SB hunt every day and the Ishgard weekly for aetherite tickets. I don't understand how the train operators queue up the next target messages.

Typically they will scout a location out, find the A Ranks, then collect the coordinates completely before shouting out a train. Once that starts, they basically go down the coordinates list. Would take too long to search during the train run.

@Timothy Clark Yeah they can be solo'd and tend to die from 1-2 shots froma lvl80 character. So calling them tends to be not worth it as anyone can walk by and snipe it. However for SB/ShB A trains and all S ranks they are pretty on top of things.

i accidentally ran into my first train during my leveling in Il mheg. I saw a bunch of people killing the big red two feet dragon monster (forget his name) and im like wow that looks like a World boss from WoW lets go join in and kill it. Now i had not completed the quests to receive and mats like the nuts so i only got 3 tomestones of poetics but was still pretty awesome and can see myself doing it in the foreseeable future. edit: this was yesterday

SHB hunt trains during off peak hours are also a great way to grind out that "kindness of strangers" achievement. If they get to live long enough, some of those A ranks are good at murdering folks that don't pay attention to mechanics. Looking at you mudman and giant red cactaur of death.

Hunts today are so streamlined. It seems like the leader of the hunt knows everything and have it organized. I am kind of glad because back in the day, we used to legit be in a group and look around ourselves without having discord to organize a mass gathering. Often enough, it was just small group of friends.

Not seeing the hunt isn't the end of the world, as the real objective is to get Tomes, Hunt currency and the kill credit. If you want to see the hunt, try hop on a late evening hunt train where there are less people. Dying to invisible mechanics is like John Cena doing his 5 knuckle shuffle >.>

As a fellow ps4 player I feel your pain! Guys he's not talking about being unaware marks have spawned, he's talking about the models not rendering because of so many players/objects on screen, literally unable to see the boss or target it or get any credit for it.

Use a technique that either heals your party or does targetless AOE damage in range of where the invisible mark is and it'll count as the 'hit' you need to get credit.

@@IvoryJazzMan There are multiple ways to be able to tag the mob even if it's invisible. You can use Raid wide mitigation on ranged physical Shield Sama (DNC), Tactician (MCH), Troubadour (BRD), but on other classes there are ways to get yourself on that list without hitting the mob. Healing/Tanking is probably your best and just heal your way through, and or as a Tank (with Tank stance active) randomly doing AoE dmg to find the mob (where everyone is swarming to hit).

I feel like the grand company squadron gets no love these days. You can level jobs running dungeons with them, or send them out for amazing rewards. Materia, gp, exp boosters, mpg booster, spiritbond boosters, scrips, and much more.

One of the things I have to constantly work with my new player friends to fix is all of the handy settings that can be changed from the defaults such as expanded inventory And while I know you have an older video about this, I usually have to link my friends multiple videos from multiple channels because there isn't a single video that includes everything Obviously cross-hotbars and targeting settings are their own things, but just a video with all of the useful "toggles" that can be quickly set up would be great

They really should get rid of the FATE bosses for ARR daily hunts. Some of them NEVER pop, there is no requirement for them either.

I frequently suggest people do daily hunt bills for a little extra hunt currency, and for leveling when appropriate. But every time ARR hunts are mentioned, I always warn about those FATE boss marks, and advise people to disregard them if they're not available when you go look. The rewards are NOT worth camping an ARR FATE for hours.

The Forgiven Rebellion (S+) spawn mechanics is unique only to Shadowbringers, and is a chance spawn after the S-rank kill. While the precursor Minions (Forgiven Gossips) only count as B-Ranks, the S+ drops 400 the Sack of Nuts and counts towards the S-Rank kill achievements.

This guide is cool, but to really get going with the hunts, it would have been better to say how we get the quests that chain into each other so we can go to certain expansions hunt boards. I mean, what you are not telling new players is how stupidly convoluted it is to even get it going for all expacs if you didn't bother with your company.

I think the reason why new players miss it is because you have to get the highest rank for you Grand company. Getting that many seals is a difficult grind. I am currently trying to do it now.

Correction: hunts “were re-introduced” in 2.3. 1.0 already has hunts back then & has their own achievement sets u can check under legacy section, they’re now converted into bosses FATEs per 2.0 release. There’s also many 1.0 contents being reintroduced as well, like how spearfishing were back in 3.0 & ishgard renovation taking que from doh/dol version of 1.0 Hamlet defense, would be nice to refer them on future coverage.

Believe it not, players like me want to take in the scenery of Rak'tika without flying over everything. Getting those maps will facilitate that. This video is helpful but doesn't address the primary issue with hunts. If you aren't lucky enough to be in a hunt linkshell or privy to another player that provides hunt relay messages, you stand little chance of downing A and S rank hunt targets. Players tend to keep hunts to themselves unless the target spawns during hours when they can't get enough players to get the kill; in which case one might hear a shout or see a group of PF openings. I like the idea of hunts but they could use changes. New players stand next to no chance of getting into a hunt linkshell and taking advantage of the currency they offer.

Those are special boss fates, not hunts. Odin, behemoth, ixion, tamamo, proto ultima are all on about 2-3 days irl timers. They drop tokens that can be used to purchase unique glamours, housing items, or armors
