@@MerDuke Nobody cares in story content and normal/alliance raids. I've seen plenty of DPS that clearly don't know their rotation and have healers and tanks beat their DPS by 2-3x but it just doesn't matter because the only impact from that is a fight taking an extra 30 seconds. Additionally nobody cares if you're the lowest DPS in a fight everyone is doing well in. If top DPS is 15k and bottom DPS is 10-12k you likely won't ever see a complaint because the fights aren't tuned to the point where everyone needs to be doing optimal rotations with 100% up time. I think the biggest eye opener though with things like ACT is when you think you're absolutely smashing a fight and realize you're doing 15-20% less DPS then another person on your same job. This can obviously be things like gear differences but a lot of times its actually because your fight opener is complete garbage and you don't even realize it or you're not optimizing your GCD usage and oGCD weaves. I've seen plenty of people in game make weird comments about not using certain abilities "hardly ever" and still confidently believe they are pulling top DPS and not once has that ever been true. The biggest issue with people not knowing how they perform is that everyone incorrectly assumes they are doing much better than they actually are.

Yoshi P’s response about third party tools reminds me of something else in Japanese culture that is similar. Pachinko. It’s illegal to run a pachinko parlor that also rewards players via gambling. You can however have your points (in the form of ball bearings) added up and you will receive a wooden token that signifies how well you did. Well there are third party companies who will purchase your valued wooden token for cash, no questions asked. They “collect” such valued tokens in their niche community. The authorities strongly suggest that participants not participate in this loophole in the law but they also will not ask if you are exchanging tokens, and for the most part they don’t want to know, as long as it’s not hurting anyone. This was very interesting to watch as it is very culturally, Japanese.

WoW's not that black and white with damage meters. Most people in normal and heroic raiding guilds don't care if they have to carry a few people. It's not that hard. Mythic raiding is tuned around each and every character playing optimally so you just can't kill a boss sometimes unless you replace the weak link. The problem lies in starting mythic progress with people not knowing this truth and being blindsided by the raid leader because they expected it to be just like the other difficulties. Personally I've never heard of someone being kicked from a guild for low dps and if you have then they werent worth your time anyways since they dont sound like friends.
@prinstyrio0

@@lichmourne00 It's more a problem the lower you get. The higher content you do, the more you have people who sees problems to be fixed rather than taking the quick way out, and people with patience, otherwise they wouldn't be up for such hard content and succeed. But the lower you go, the more accessible the content is, the more casual and prone to strangers, the more these tools becomes weapons rather than actual tools. And no matter how you go about it, majority of the players are in this bracket whilst those doing harder content are a minority. The latter also goes for guilds entering this content. Not all are equipped and ready for it, and takes the same mindset they into it, kicking people left and right, behaving with toxicity. Majority of them die out and don't get anywhere (I've been part of 2), but it's not always as simple as "Well it was good you got kicked out" or "Should've left it", as the whole atmosphere is way more muddled until afterwards, especially if this is your first experience into it, which then taints your whole enjoyment of it as well rather than introducing something new and fun.

@valience1739
@valience1739 2 жыл бұрын
The problem commonly cited with the dummy, and by extension the sky, sea, and stone tests, is that you can sit there and straight dps. While that's great for training muscle memory it doesn't reflect a real fight where you have to do mechanics that affect your uptime and take other character's raid buffs into consideration to optimize your burst windows and such. Not saying that you can't use the dummy to get your rotation down, but I personally wouldn't use it as an accurate gauge of your dps in a fight.

They kind of do shit like that using Stone, Sky, Sea - I've seen PFs advertise that a certain time has to be beat in SSS in order to join (completely missing the point that beating SSS in the first place is sufficient), and that someone from the static will go to SSS and use a stopwatch or whatever to validate the time. I suppose in an ideal world we can constantly chase ourselves and maybe a "Ghost Racer" like function in SSS where we chase our best run would be personally beneficial.

It's useful as a tool, but it's best turned off when you've got your own performance down. Imo a long term impulse to constantly check dps is what leads to toxicity. There are inevitably going to be occasions where your dps is blowing everyone else out of the water, even as a tank or healer. Those occasions can add up over time and slowly change the type of player you are. I've seen a good few people turn from positive team players to toxic assholes over a few years, and each of those few players started changing when they made a point to always track their dps.

I've never been told I can't join a group or kicked out of one because of ACT. But I've been told I can't join because I parsed green as a healer during my E12S or ultimate clear on FFlogs. I think FFlogs are more the problem, because you can't do shit about it and some rando ass can post your info and how you did for the world to see regardless if it was a bad pull, progression, or just a normal clear. Sure you can set it not to show your info. But to most that is just as bad or worse because it gives a "what are you hiding" vibe to others. Hence for the past 2 years I strictly do savage or other harder content with a static. So in my opinion ACT has nothing compared to FFlogs as far as possible bullying. Cause with ACT, the action of bullying can only be done during the fight. But with FFlogs, the action bullying can be done before the fight even starts.

from AdamG6391 on reddit 4 years ago: It's a mechanic on Zurvan EX Basically, zurvan is in the middle, three lines appear and Zurvan divides and dashes along those lines to the edge of the arena. Then those three Zurvans dash across the arena again to the opposite edge like Ifrit or Ravana (in other words, those three radiuses from part 1 become diameters, eg a mid-north line becomes a north-south) After zurvan splits, everyone but the healers gets a fairly large AoE on them which will explode as zurvan does the full arena charges, if a non-tank eats two explosions or a charge, they will probably die After the soar, someone gets marked with a "stack here" marker with a hilariously short timer, so everyone IMMEDIATELY needs to collapse into the center The difficulty comes in the fact that there are two patterns of soar that must be quickly identified, and very few safe spots where you can stand without blowing someone else up or dying to someone else or zurvan's charge The reason it has become a meme is that despite being difficult, the mechanic can be cheesed: if you do enough DPS when he's in "stripper cake" mode, he will skip the first soar, resulting in a LOT of parties that demand enough DPS to skip the mechanic, mainly because they can't do it properly themselves. The community then took this and started making jokes that you need to do enough DPS to skip soar, even in situations where soar isn't even present.

Building on what Yoshi said about not wanting to have people wanting others to prove X DPS value in order to be a part of their team, he's absolutely right because it's happened in RuneScape. Short version, there's an item called a Challenge crystal, which will measure how much damage you and anyone else who signs up for it can do in 5 minutes. Players use these to measure their damage output and set requirements for others, saying "if you can't hit 200k dpm, you can't be a part of our group for this boss."

I think the way its setup now is actually about as good as we could hope for, even if its on unsteady ground. You get to use the tool, to reap its benefits for your own usage and your potential static/fc/etc's own usage but it also cannot be used as a weapon to harass others and warp other parts of the game that don't nessecarily need meters present. I love data, and the concept of detailed metering but WoW has factually proven they can hugely compromise a game and a community when left unchecked. Also, great video, great content, subbing for sure.

As a former WoW player, I can confirm Yoshi-P validity of being 100 thousand millionish % right on ACT. In theory, it can be a great tool. In practice, small pepe moves are usually made. Honestly, the fact that every instance has a minimum ilvl you need in order to enter, and a maximum ilvl you get synced down to, already does a ton to cut down on factors for harassment. By the time you even get to the point where ACT enters the equation, everyone's contribution is already pretty homogenized. This is a game where ability to do mechanics is much more important than being able to squeeze the most out of your rotation. There are very few DPS checks, and if you can't make the check, it's probably not just one player dpsing poorly. It's probably a couple.

They have never backed away from that position, so when they say that it is "your responsibility" I whole heartedly agree, because they have been up front and clear about their stance on the issue. If, given what they have said and the actions they have taken in the past, you still choose to defy them, then it is 100% YOUR fault should you ever get hammered for it. Just sayin', low DPS can also be a form of harassment. 😆 Jokes aside, I find tools like this quite useful, but coming from a WoW background I know that it will be used as a gatekeeping tool if they don't say anything about it. In my static we used it for the current EX trials, and I have never done EX trials when they were current. Or any at all, outside of Thordans Reign, to be precise. When I looked at the data, I knew where to improve, and my DPS doubled, my overheal got massively reduced and my Raidbuff uptime went through the roof, meaning my Chain Stratagem contribution went from 50k to 150k. I was quite happy about that.

I find it interesting they always see the World first clears see EVERYONE using ACT and even using Call outs from ACT to do the raids as well and don't take action against them. That should tell you all you need to know about ACT honestly. As long as it isn't being used to harasses people it is fine. But I could see some people calling out ACt as "cheating" too in hardcore raiding having all the call outs just "given" to you basically acting like a raid leader Also people who decide to push speed runs and enjoy scoring high parses are just a different group of people and not everyone is like that so yes people who are like that look for a certain kind of player with a certain skill ability and will use act to weed people out that are not living up to a group standred for what that group wants to achieve. I got knocked from a raid static I was with for years after they decided to push hard on speed runs and parseing but it wasn't me kind of thing. Nothing wrong with that people do change.
