"FGO Hot Takes" : Takasugi Shinsaku vs Sei Shonagon

I did not do all trait hit crit damage with sei because she needs her NP to activate the pmod and she kills every shadow servant neutral man saber I can find with just her NP lol.
This obvious does not consider high end challenge quest, in terms of that I like sei's survival and team utility more but takasugi as crit dps more.

A little suggestion, Plushie. Next time you do a comparison video, can you please put a summary of their looping (damage each wave and their np refund) side by side, at the end of the vid? That way we can clearly see the differences between the units.

Sei helped me beat the SW2 shadow round quest and was honestly quite cool to see her niche pop up for something other than a free quest. Wish she got a buff to her s3. That entire skill is a 4 star skill on the worst of days

Sei's buster card may only be dealing 2/3rds the damage of Takasugi's, but her voice line is the reason I keep using her even though I have a way stronger archer.

Gonna put this here ig but Pmod and crit damage are under the same buff type which makes sei's crit and pmod damage additive rather than multiplicative. Takasugi rightfully has better crit damage than Sei's because the numbers are better for him at least in the case of this comparison [50 from s2+90 from NPx3 v.s 30 from skill +50pmod from shadow not counting SS crit buff or takasugi's extra buster ups over sei]

Near the end, you mention that Sei's powermod should scale really well with Summer Skadi's crit boost compared to Takasugi stacking additional critical boosts. If I remember correctly, powermods are calculated in the same spot as NP/crit boosts, so they'd scale the same (favoring Takasugi since he's stacking more critical boosts than the 50% powermod Sei has).

Anti Shadow servant is barely matter since aside from Dark Round, there is no CQ that has Shadow Servant and aside from Charlotte node in America and Gawain node in Camelot, there is no farming node event and non event with good drop that has Shadow Servant either.

I like the narrated version of this better, and I'm looking forward to the hot take. I feel like my level of disappointment with Takasugi is akin to Plushie's level with Britomart. He's just a very boring unit. Worse yet, it feels like (as this video shows) he was balanced around Sei and while being a bit better overall, the problem is Sei was so far behind the big buster AoEs (Gil and Tesla in particular) and the arts options that I'm just confused why they'd not look to balance a new servant around the current competition and then look to buff Sei instead. To maybe summarize it better, Takasugi is what you get when you take Okitan, strip out her arts-esque NP gain, 2 hit invul, defense buff removal on NP, and star absorb and replace it with targetable buffs you'll almost never give to anyone else (you have to use on him or his cooldowns are too high), a guts which is worse than an invul in most every situation, and a crit on NP gimmick. It's like downgrade after downgrade after downgrade and then you get to the crit gimmick which could help even things out... but he's a Quick servant with nothing but a guts for survivability. He's just a real hard sell for me (although not a terrible servant) when Gilgamesh obliterates his damage potential, Tesla has more utility, and Zenobia is permanent and easier to loop with.

I was really hoping he wasn't gonna be quick AoE for obvious reasons but thankfully I'm past the point where grailing a servant with the exact same class and NP permutation as one I have already grailed will sting a lot. Even moreso in two years when he releases. This isn't horrendous powercreep either, sei was never a high-end unit and I assume the same will be the case for takasugi. I'd go so far as to say his advantages over her are pretty fair considering the two year gap between the two. Both are alright for where they released in FGO's larger timeline.

For Looper I would say that Refund should be the first priority since imo, no point in firing something that hits hard if you can't fire it 3 times in a row in a Farming situation

Pretty much, the power mod is a nice spice at best, Takasugi still very much beats Shonagon looping wise by quite literally refunding twice her gauge given he has almost twice the hitcounts despite having no power mods himself, Shonagon has 3 but they range from almost completely irrelevant to fairly broad which doesn't add up very well, none which exactly helps her with looping either. In most fronts he just feels better than her, she needs a skill (preferably battery) upgrade, and fast.

​​​​@@Kiraidi720 I'm surprised he only dealt close to 334 k crit damage against class advantage, considering all the buffs involved. 46% of crit up and 18% buster up from his skills, the crit buffs from his np which ramp upto 90%, 200% buster crit buff from double skadi which also had 15 % attack up and buster up, while also including the 20% buster up from his np and also the fact that it was a rainbow chain, meaning he had the buster first card damage bonus on that buster.

@@lookingforlove839 There's a bit of a "diminishing return" when stacking crit damage to such absurd degrees, he'd get a bit more from a blend of raw, good Buster Up alongside crit than just an obscene amount of crit damage alone. Not that we should just take a 334k like it's pocket change, it can still eat an entire healthbar like it's nothing in most non-hardcore CQs.

​@@Kiraidi720 that makes sense. My Don Quixote did close to 200k crit damage on the second place buster card with just 1 summer skadi buff and waver buff. My waver is only 4/4/4 and Don Quixote at 6/6/1. He used his np twice, so had 2 stacks of attack up and crit up. That's why i was a bit surprised when he did 334 k when he had way more buffs active. My Don Quixote is also grailed to 90 with 1 k fou

Ehhhhh you're going to see over the next year that refund isn't nearly as important these days. With Oberon in the game, the addition of Neo-Plug, and appends, everyone is already starting with 190% of 300% charge available without their own batteries. In addition, 90++s are now what you are farming the most on JP, and they aren't even always 3 wave nodes. And more importantly, you have to hit some pretty huge damage numbers to reliably farm them, so as of now damage (and consistent at that) is at least as important if not more so. The lack of a damage mod on Takasugi is a real killer on him (he's the first new AoE SSR without one since Ryouma to give you an idea how long it's been). There's a reason lots of people are bringing it up.

Yes, I was very surprised when I use a support Sei. It was the reason why her refund is goddamn terrible. For a Quick servant to refund reliably, their NP needs to have at least 7 hits. Below that, it ranges from “needs Waver to compensate” to “can’t be used for farming”

Takasugi is better but I think Sei gets a lot of undeserved slander, she's solid and offers a lot of variety. As a side note, I think you should run the test with her charisma skill maxed out, that's also a scaling battery, technically speaking. It won't change anything in the comparison but still.
