Thrifting is so much a matter of luck and serendipity, and no one should forget that you're a professional, so naturally you tend to be "luckier" than some of us. These are great tips! "This is why we thrift, ladies and gentlemen!"

Great video, Fia! You gave very good tips as well. I have to share this. Went to a Habitat Restore this past week. Was looking for items for one of my children. Was about to leave when I spotted a partial roll of gorgeous upholstery fabric. It was marked $15.00. But I got it at 30% off at $10.00. Came home and unrolled the fabric to measure the yardage. I have 16 full uncut yards and some scraps that I did not measure. So each yard cost me 62-1 /2 cents!! Since I can sew, I am now looking for something to upholster now. I always check fabrics and draperies to use for sewing projects. Have a great week! Looking forward to your bedroom makeover.

I appreciate that you are taking into consideration the fact that people are not finding the same things you are in their local shops. It's not a video about finding the same items--it's to explore your own creativity and see what you can do with the items YOU find. This video is super helpful and encouraging. I think the beads you found are a real stone, hence so heavy, possible moonstone based on its chatoyancy or maybe even white tigers eye.
@gatheringmoss57266 ай бұрын
Great video! I've been thrifting for 50+ years and still learned from your pro tips. The white garland beads appear to be a stone called Selenite. It's absolutely gorgeous and must have cost a fair bit when it was purchased new. Major score at $3! If they are Selenite, it's a fragile stone. It scratches easily, so it should be in a place where it won't get handled very often.

Hi Fia. A strand of beads sold to jewelry makers in bulk is called a hank. That is not meant to be a necklace, meant to be separated for jewelry, tassels, etc..

Unlike other commenters, I prefer the brown for the headboard recover! It will show less dirt and if you paint the walls a lighter color, it will pop. As for those stone beads...they usually sell stone beads like that for jewelry making on a string. I think these were just bigger stone beads to use as a single focal bead on a necklace but it is cheaper to buy a string of beads if you are an avid jewelry maker. Kind of like buying in bulk. Great tips!

Hi Fia love your channel. I believe the bead garland you were wondering about are actually Greek Worry Beads, made of polished Selenite. I have a few smaller versions of the Greek Worry Beads which the men would carry in their pockets and use as needed to flip round the cording. Also Selenite is often used to clear negative energy. So its a win win for you and looks great too!

Thank you so much for taking the time to go through this! Thrifting & upcycling isn't for everyone! And different people look for different things! If your not running a business or reselling you shop for different things. If your shopping for your own home it's different. That was an expensive & borderline hoarding lesson I learned. 😂 Your tips and insights are spot on and applicable to all situations! THANK YOU AGAIN for sharing!

Something you've probly already thought of but in case this helps others : To still use the laundry hamper as one & as-is, m/l, but without the tying, untying etc. , one could try to find a plastic basket that fits the space inside well. With or without holes .. ? IDK if necessary for ventilation, pry depends on how wet items r & and for how long they are in there.

I have been watching you for a while and I can't find things like you do or even close to it. I know thrifting is luck of the draw but now of days thrifting is a nightmare because the thrift stores are so packed with people Thrifting just to be a reseller and they're like vultures there's been numerous of times that my daughter and I have gone and they will snatch the stuff right out of your basket so for me, Thrifting is horrible, but I just love your channel and the ideas that you come up with
