Having been around bison my entire life, I can tell you that this sort of thing does not happen if you are exercising proper caution. People who are truly hunters and outdoors types, who live in areas where you can encounter a wolf, a bear, a buffalo, or a big cat, know how to avoid this type of situation. It takes years of experience. Do not blame your ignorance for the animals behavior.

@@oldageisdumbop’s point is literally made by the behavior of the animals at Yellowstone. How? Bc normal bison have to really be annoyed to charge you. The ones at Yellowstone are SOO USED to people you REALLY have to go out of your way to piss them odd to ge them to do this. Thus…it’s even harder to get fired in Yellowstone bc they are used to being right up on you. This lady was not being careful and was not 60 yrs away. She had to be trying to pet it to have this happen.

@@aerynstormcrow No, I would disagree about his point being made. His point was that these people were negligent and ignorant and I’m saying if you are familiar with Yellowstone you would understand how easy it is to find yourself in a dangerous situation while doing nothing wrong. People are DYING to blame these people and sometimes you have to accept that crap happens and doesn’t mean they are at fault. You have NO CLUE if they were 60 yards away or not and you sure as heck don’t know if she “was trying to pet it” which is just an asinine comment. These are wild animals and they are unpredictable.

You can’t shut it down. That park also serves as a preservation area. Believe me, the bison can take care of themselves. When you go to a place like that, you accept liability, knowing you’re in a beautiful but inherently dangerous place. It’s my understanding these people weren’t actually bothering the bison, or trying to get close. It is rutting season & male bison can get pretty ornery. It sounds like wrong place at the wrong time. By the way, I speak as a biologist, preservationist, & nature lover. I know it’s upsetting to see the people who walk right up to bison or moose, but believe me, they’ll either get lucky, or they’ll learn the hard way.

So here's the thing...my family raised bison, not because they are cute...we raised them to eat. Twice a day, every day for over 10 years I fed and looked over them...not ONCE did we have a nice one... They will tear anything and everything up. I have some doubts about what he said happened ...Granted anything can happen...but, IMO and experience working with bison, they were a hell of a lot closer than they claimed. The one that hurt her was 60 yards away and was rolling in the dirt. That is more than enough time to get away.. ffs the bison head butted her...now why in the hell would a person stand there and have a bull bison charge you....60 YARDS away...I know why, they were way closer than he claims...they can run pretty fast but wallowing in the dirt, 60 yards away, she stands there waiting to be headbutted...if that bison ran that 60 yards and hit her in the head with his, she would of died...the inertia built up by that bull running would of scramble her brains....I've seen it happen to our cattle when one of our bison bulls took the fence down and got in with our cows and bulls. They were close too close....

I think many people truly don’t realize just how wild Yellowstone National Park is. There’s danger pretty much all around you. Just bc it’s called, “a park,” doesn’t mean it idyllic & safe. There’s a lot of things in the park that can kill you, from wild animals, to the terrain, & the elements. I’ve been there 3x (also hiked in the Grand Tetons (grizzlies, moose, cougars, wolves, etc). When I’m out in “the wild,” I think of it like driving a motorcycle. You have to be looking around constantly, & be overly cautious. I’m sorry that happened to that woman. I’m glad she survived.

They call them "wild animals" for a reason. When you enter a natural environment, you have to be aware of these critters and you are assuming the risk of such encounters. Unlike a lot of animal encounters in national parks, at least these people knew the danger and tried to avoid it but the risk cannot be fully mitigated in such situations.

Out of nowhere, never heard a sound very early in the morning, and suddenly I was hit on the side of my head so hard by a crow I thought it was a piece of furniture had fallen from the apartment above.
