We did a great road trip from Germany across the Alps to Milano in Italy to check out and test drive some of Pininfarina's Fiat 130 Coupés at different dealers.

My dad had a blue 130 coupe when I was a little fella in the late 70's. He loved the car and we still talk about it, but it would break down religiously when it got over 25 degree Celsius haha. He tried to have the stereo replaced, but as the professional installer said, the wiring didn't match the diagram, so he had either front or back speakers. An absolutely beautiful car though! Thanks for the video mate and fond memories 😀

I have such respect for how the German people use the Autobahn with respect to each other without any need for a speed limit. It’s my life long dream to drive an old Daytona or 330 GTB through the Alps someday

Attention Schlaboubve!!!! Sadly soon all gas cars will be banned in EU and USA! In France they have a new banning law for ICE cars called SCHLABOUBVE and in Switzerland the HESCHLAVVO law! In Scandinavian countries soon there will be a so called SMORVERBIDEN law. In Germany from 2027 the new BABVVO and TEBBVO laws by the green peoples party will bann all gas cars from public streets only exception will be professional commuter trips and state-certified transports)!!!

I drove the 130 coupe in 1979 when I was 19 years old, when my father ( car dealer) ask me to follow him to the depot, he was driving a Porsche 911, and I remember I was so scared because it was quite a big car at that time and I was use to a little Fiat 500.

It does not really matter all that much if you pay a few thousand more for a good straight original car with good original interior, history and intact mechanicals. If it needs a respray, so what? The way inflation is eating away the value of our dubious (fiat) valuta these days, it's really not a big deal. ln the years to come your 130Coupe will rise in value anyway, so you may as well buy the best you can, even if you have to pay a few grand more. l had one of these from 1980 until 1988 as a daily driver and it never gave any trouble. Having owned some 60 Italian, German and French cars, l think that the 130 Coupe is still my favourite, together with the Alfas 75 Twin spark, 2.5 litre and 3ltr America. I also like my V6 Pug 406 Pininfarina, which reminds me a little of the 130 Coupe. Italians really know how to build cars that never become boring.🤔

A friend of mine here in Italy had a 3200 automatic, purchased new. He said that flat out on the autostrada you could literally see the fuel guage going down. These cars were known for getting as little as 3 km/liter (7 mpg).
@CubeofCars
@CubeofCars 3 жыл бұрын
Flat out, maybe, but with modest speed you can easily get 12 l/100km (20 mpg US).

That second dealer really was bullshitting. The engine was completely rebuilt..... it wouldn’t start, it wouldn’t idle and sounded like it was missing. He may have had bills to prove but hmmmmmmmm.. great video though, thanks for sharing. Loved seeing the mountains again. The last time I drove from Austria into Italy was in 1998 in a 1970 series 2A Land Rover. Great memories.

Yes, they are lovely to drive! And finally I have found a coupé now which I am about to buy. The ratio of manual to automatic coupés is about 1:4, so manuals are really rare, but definitely the better choice for performance and reliability...

I am Italian and I have been buying and selling as a hobby European cars for 40 years and if there is one thing Italy is famous for that would be clocking speedos yes all you do is take any car to your local "contakilometrista" mechanic's shop specialized in repairing instrument gauges and for a modest sum any mileage you so desire can be obtained, and that 1977 130 Coupe is a prime candidate and the second one also was no better two very expensive worn out vehicles!

l owned and drove my '76 130 Coupe in Tasmania (1980-1988). These days someone in Queensland owns it. It was silver grey with that striking orange interior. Did not like that big unsightly silver coloured FIAT emblem on the steering wheel and replaced it with a professionally made insert matching the 'woodwork' on the dash and PININFARINA in small typeset in the right bottom section.

Hi Daniele, I wish I could have the original Italian plates on my Fiat here in Germany. That would look so much cooler than the German plates :)
@iinerd
@iinerd 4 жыл бұрын
Cube of Cars there are some companies that reproduce them . the reason you cannot keep them it’s because here the plates are developed by the Gov with the signature . It’s like cash . So even if u broke it / loose you should ask for a new plate with a new serial number . There is a good website : www.targheitaliane.com that has kept lots of original samples and for every district ( Milan, Rome, Turin etc ) they show you the serial number from the first registration. I.E. my golf mk1 1978 registered new in Milano district is like ‘ MI xxxxx D’ . Two things: 1- serial number with districts was a continous number from 1927 up to 1994! Bigger cities when reached 1milion ( MI 999999) started to use a letter in first position, then in last position and so on. So Mailand 1 milion was MIA00000. 2- The color and format changed basically 3 times . 1927-1975 black, all white digits and squared. 1976-1985 Similar to the previous but also rectangular with district only in orange. 1985-1994 White background and all black digits with bigger plate on front too. Ciao

Walk away quickly.....worth maybe 4k/5k Euros to allow twice that much (if not more) to put the bad things right, they are asking way too much for a vehicle full of issues. Saw them in the showroom when they same out, very impressive but I'm not a fan of crushed velour interiors.

Italian cars since second half of the 60's are rust buckets, due the continuing litigations between the labor unions in any branch of industry. Remind you the worst what happened with the production of the Alfa Sud, a beautiful boxer engine car. During a strike , assembled car bodies, unpainted , were stored for months outside in the open air, at one of the Alfa factories in South Italy, unbelievable !
@CubeofCars
@CubeofCars 4 жыл бұрын
That's true and very sad. But even German cars from the 70s had huge rust problems after a few years.... though the Alfa Sud was probably the worst of all in terms of rust. Really sad, because this Alfa would have been a fantastic car.
@davidebassini2044
@davidebassini2044 3 жыл бұрын
The problem with Alfasud is that it was so succesfull, a lot over the expectation, that at a certain point to satisfy the market they started to assembly the cars very quickly and badly. So the first serie of Alfasud didn't have any problem of rust or paint as later series had. In any case strikes have nothing to do with Alfasud problems.
