Excellent really clear video. My sensor reads 80 degrees or sometimes nothing. I have just ordered a sensor off eBay.

Unbelievably that sensor if not working can give you high emissions and wreck your dpf I found out the expensive way. Great video. Tell as many Peugeot/Fiat/Citreon owners as you can to save them heartache and money.

You’re right in that it’s unbelievable. The outside temperature sensor has no bearing on the exhaust system. The dpf has its own temperature sensor and only regenerates when it reaches the required temp. The dpf will regenerate regardless of the outside temperature.

@@porscheminormechanicsrando8394 You’d be surprised. The Ducato (and similar vans) need this outside airtemp sensor for the DPF to start a regen. There are even manufacturers who want the airco compressor to run, as a pre-requisite for a regen. There’s a YT channel from O’Riley’s Autos (a mobile mechanic in the UK), who is specialized in DPF’s, and a lot of fault result from a faulty temp-sensor. Sadly even Fiat dealers don’t really know this, with a DPF fault they are going to charge you £1000’s for a new DPF, which will eventually again will clog up, because the real fault wasn’t corrected properly (eg the temp sensor).

My input on this issue..replaced my mirror thought nothing about this sensor till looking on dash and reading 0c...that was roughly 1.5yrs ago..just recently had error code P0428 which is catalyst temperature sensor high bank 1 sensor 1...surely 1.5yrs later this would have happen sooner???...luckily work for haulage company getting them to check it...any feed back???.

This fault is also related to DPF fault😉 as seen on Rilleys autos

This *WILL* cause the following codes *over time* P2463 Particle Filter P24A4 Particle Filter If a new DPF is fitted the fault WILL return. Common problem when a complete new mirror is fitted by well known repairers (Or a Garage doing it "On the Cheap?") since the non-OEM mirrors often come minus the sensor, loom, and connector.... So ALWAYS keep the old one! (And if you buy one, look for *TWO* connectors in the picture) . Ref the "O'Rileys Autos" YT Channel. He goes to A LOT of vehicles with "DPF issues" (His specialty) and the FIRST thing he does is check the ambient temp reading. First question to the customer "Broken mirror?"

Interesting! I’ve a 2018 Relay but it has. I sensor in the mirror. The temp gauge on display also reads blank. Any ideas?

With everyone commenting on the 'DPF' I wonder if this sensor causes the engine temp gauge to not aways show correct engine temp, as in 0 degrees?

I’m still not convinced that the sensor in the door mirror has anything to do with the DPF the engine records its own temperature outside via the Maf and the exhaust temperature sensor is completely separate. The exhaust and engine temperature have to be right in order for it to regenerate.

I wasn’t aware it did. I’ve done a couple of these in the past on late ones and not had EML light come up. The older models apparently it’s associated with the dpf and effects the regeneration but again I find it a little hard to believe that a outside temperature is in anyway relevant to initiating a regeneration, after all it’s the exhaust temperature that critical to a regeneration not the ambient temperature.

@@porscheminormechanicsrando8394 mines a 2010, it’s not looking like it has one in the mirror there’s no hole and no temperature on dash. I got worried (I was going to stock one) and called a friend who said apparently older ones don’t have it. But he’s a Nissan man so he could be wrong.

If you don’t have a outside temperature display on the dash then it is indeed a good chance you don’t have one. I don’t understand why you associate it with the EML. cheers
