older puntos have a different diagnostic port which is three pin it can be done using similar equipment but I don't have knowledge to tell you what you need or how to go about it

Hi James, wI use Windows 7 also, can you explain more about the problem you are having? have you tried installing it on a different machine to ensure its not the PC, i seem to think way back when I first installed the lead on my laptop it was essentially plug and play

Hi, I own a 2003 MK2 Punto 1.2 Active (5million edition) and the airbag light is always on. I have tried the fix you have in this video (I've got the leads and software etc) but the light still stays on. The error I have comes up as: '09 - Passenger squib circuit | Open circuit | Intermittent/Present | 40' Do you have any ideas on a fix for this error? Many thanks.

If its a switched cable then the obvious answer if connecting to the airbag ecu is if the cable is switched correctly? Many of these cables are very cheaply made Ian's quality is poor, you really need to some how confirm that the cable actually works, that's why we suggest a normal cable with adapters

Also i noticed that when testing the interface that the latency timing was no where near the times it should have been. it says it allows for ~5ms but some of them were out by around 100ms or just timed out completely

If you buy the cabled linked in the video description and download MultiECUScan then you can do most things including accessing the engine ECU to find out why your EML is on for ABS you may need a fully paid up and licensed version of the software

Hi, Thanks for your video. I have a Punto mk2 1.2 16v 2001. The airbag light is also the problem for me. I have connected everything as shown in your video however when I press "Connect" it says no response from ECU, check settings or port. What can I do? Latency is already set to 1. Interface and Test worked fine.

+Caren Tong sadly it is not uncommon for the airbag ecu to fail and not connect. the only way to deal with this is to change the ecu with an exact matching numbers replacement. people usually go on ebay.

Hi PuntoHowTo, On my '01 1.2 8v Punto, the airbag light goes out, yet my passenger isolation light continues to flash, no matter which position the switch is in. Any thoughts? Does this point more towards the Isolation switch fault in your other video? Many thanks.

Do I need those adapters for ABS and SRS lights? I have those light on my dashboard, but no error found on diagnostic. Car is Grande Punto 1.2

what are you using to read the codes? the MES software assesses all the modules in the car but some need the adaptors to connect to them correctly. Cheap code readers may not be capable of accessing things like ABS or airbag modules at all and with the MES software you need the adaptors to connect to them. Without the adaptors in MES you simply wont connect to the modules and so would not be able to say there are no error codes which makes me thing you are using some other type of error code reader? if you got the adaptors any other budget error code reader is unlikely to be able to use them and you would still need the MES software.

@@PuntoHowto Thanks for answer. I used cheap generic code reader from aliexpress. Also I tried another cheap Bluetooth reader with torque pro app, and still I didn't get abs and srs codes. On fiat forum I read that I need separate adapters so I can read abs and srs codes. It's confusing for me, because I though will be plug and play action. I also have elm 327 with USB cable, but I can't connect to my laptop (windows 7 and 10) no matter why I do. What hardware and software do you using? I think will be smart to invest to diagnostic because I plan to use the car for a few years.

@@mvpring so I have a full version of MES which you can find by just googling MES Fiat or MultiECUScan [www.multiecuscan.net/] the website there has a massive list of every single car it supports and every module you can connect to, it also tells you the coloured adaptors needed, you may find you need only one or two adaptors for your car to access everything. I have used both the ELM which I have as a bluetooth adaptor a quick look on the site suggests you can do everything with a ELM cable or dongle and a yellow adaptor for the 1.2 8V grande. I use an old laptop running windows XP but I have used MES with both Windows 10 and 7 in the past. I would probably look at getting a new ELM one that you know works

nickygoddard some cables now have a switch to do the same thing, without this switch though you'll need a red cable

Ok makes sense now 2f is two front (Italian = fronte) 2L is two side (Italian = lato) they are the ones built into the seat sides. Then 2T is two head or roof (Italian= tetto) it’s literally just the number of airbags installed.

I bought cable from ebay, with a switch on it so you dont need adaptor but it is not working. I am stuck on connecting to ECU (in video 2:00) . MES is detecting KKL VAG cable, when i click on test in settings it works without errors, it just cant connect to ECU, airbaig, to nothing ... I have latest CDM driver for cable, settings of COM port is the same as in "How to use" ... any idea what is wrong? (I guess the cable is wrong, maybe 64bit Windows 8 is a problem ?)

this suggests an actual fault with the airbag or wiring to that airbag on the passenger side, in all seriousness its probably best to let a garage deal with a potentially faulty airbag otherwise it can result in accidental deployment and likely injury

you need the KKL and red adaptor for anything airbag related, i have the Bluetooth ELM327 and yes you still need the adaptor cables to access the various modules of the car

Hi, I have the same airbag intermittent fault on my 04 punto sporting (1.4 16v) I have the software, just waiting for delivery of the vagcom cable and the red adaptor. Do you know if I can connect by choosing the Punto 03 1.4 16v option on the software, as there isn't an 04 choice.

although your car may have been registered in 2004 it is considered to be a 2003-2006 model car which is what the 03 on the software refers to

if you can't find the airbag module then you may have a more serious problem that needs professional attention. if you don't have the amber passenger side airbag light, then you don't have a passenger airbag.

Hi i can scan find and connect to the engine with the green pin-out lead But when i connect the red lead and scan it doesnt find any airbag module. So is this the red pin-out lead, the module or somthing else HELP......

No sorry ELM327 won't connect with the airbag ECU you need the VAG-Com lead either modified or with the red adaptor

Stuart Graham it maybe the newest versions of the program don't have the button, I'm in the process of planning an update to this video, using the new software, you don't have to test the connection as long as the connect button works and you can access the airbag ecu then it doesn't really matter

I have experienced problems with connecting an ELM327 OBDII to USB interface, to my 1999 FIAT Punto 1,2 8V, even if the computer COM port is configured correctly and this is verified by the interface test in the Multiecuscan software. It appears that the ELM 327 interface simply doesn´t connect to the cars interface. Can anyone help me ? Is my car not compatible with OBDII or does the cars interface only run 9600 bps ? Any other idea ? Thanks in advance

OK, i fixed the problem, i fitted a second hand module with the same part number which put the amber light on when the ignition was switched on, it then flashed and stayed on, so i re connected my laptop which now recognizes the module so i could put the light out JOB DONE total cost for leads and module was £48. I have since taken the old module apart and found a burnt out component on the pcb under the inertia sensor but without a schematic i don't know what the component is.................

Tried this with my Punto 1.2 16V -00 .. cant clear error codes they just dont clear, also had a friend with autocom try to reset them and still wont disapear .. any ideas on why ? =)

You won't be able to clear an error if there is still a fault in the system, as you can't clear it, you actually have a problem that needs some attention. This video only shows you how to reset the system where there are no actual faults and the mk2 punto has a common glitch which causes this to happen

hmm that sucks as i dont know what one of the 4 errors to look for.. got "Intermittent internal fault" (might be this? :P ), "Battery voltage to low, intermittent" (Changed the battery and checked all earth points), tried to disconnect the srs from the dashboard and got two new errors about that .. if it only would clear the errors thats actualy not there anymore but all of them are still there after a clear :/

search for Fiat MultiECUScan and it should bring up the website, this should fix your fault with the appropriate cables

You have not cured the fault but merely erased the fault code which turns the warning lamp on. It will come back on
