Did you do it on a warm or cold engine?
@PuntoHowto15 күн бұрын
I’d suggest a cold engine, really you are looking to see if there is a difference between cylinders but if you do it on a warm engine then you have to contend with hot spark plugs and hot engine and risk burning yourself
@nequanlucas216214 күн бұрын
@@PuntoHowto okay cool … so I’m curious whenever you have bent valves or slightly bent valves, that cylinder won’t be able to hold compression right?? I drive a mk7 gti and I know that the loud bang I heard under my hood was me jumping time.. I replaced the timing chain then later saw this video and did a compression test all cylinders were pretty much the same between 147-149 .. but the car runs like crap the car idles at 600 but after a drive it starts idling at 900 rpm so I’m just lost
@PuntoHowto14 күн бұрын
@@nequanlucas2162 yes if you have bent valves then you’ll not have compression in those cylinders. That engine would be direct injection? It’s quite a lot more complex than the engine in this video I can’t really suggest what you can do to fix the problems you are having?

Don't bother with the boot gas struts - new ones don't last long enough to make it worthwhile buying them.

That’s worth knowing especially at the price they charge for replacements, I wonder if I could fit a spring somewhere to give the extra oooph to hold the boot up

Had to use these once when my springs need replacing. It was sketching me out when compressing the new spring as I realized how much energy was being stored. It doesn't take much, just one of them slipping, to seriously injure or end yourself.

@LadyMistbornАй бұрын
It's just not worth a single penny that you save swapping those out, and you're literally only saving pennies at that point Personally the only time I will ever use coil compressors is for the old style springs and shocks and even then they're not super tight and only as a backup incase anything goes wrong

I was at a brand new shop doing some suspension work on a Tacoma. Had my apprentice do one of the struts on the wall mount. Weve used this thing several times already with no incident, but this time he mounted it fine, but the lips on the bottom that hold the spring snapped off, the spring on the strut essentially exploded in to the ground and tore the entire mount off the wall. Thankfully, the dude wasn't hurt, but damn that was the loudest and scariest thing I've ever seen. We let him take the rest of the day and the next one off for a 4 day weekend.
@LadyMistbornАй бұрын
I saw that happen to our wall mount in school, and I've refused to do that job since If the customer really wants to save that little bit of money they can come disassemble the struts themselves lol

I have them, they definitely feel sketchy as fook. I remember back in the day you couldn’t even buy stuff like that, it was trade only, motorfactors wouldn't sell tools like that. Don't know why, suppose the garages wanted their cut of the work. That's Ireland for you 🙄
@PuntoHowtoАй бұрын
Thankfully these days you can get pretty much any tools you want even budget versions of specialist tools, I remember my mk1 Mondeo needed a “special” spanner to remove the steering rack which consisted of a normal spanner bent in a certain way as to go round a corner you’d not normally get a spanner into, Ford wouldn’t sell you one so you just take any old spanner and bend it yourself to fit

@PuntoHowtoАй бұрын
You will need to do that in software, you’ll need a program like MES (Multi ECU Scan) to do it. I should have included this but the service tokens on my car had expired so I no longer got service light warnings (also I didn’t do enough miles between oil changes anyway)

It's always best to soak the new filter in oil first, before putting it in the housing. This ensures that oil will be at the main parts of the engine when starting after an oil change. If the oil pump has to pump oil into the filter housing first, before getting to the main parts, then there's a chance the main and small end bearings could be running dry, which over time will make the engine knock. This then would not be a good scenario.
@PuntoHowtoАй бұрын
Let’s think about this logically… in order for the oil that you have soaked into the filter to be pushed around the engine, it needs something to push the oil out of the filter, as the oil pump is not an air pump and air in the system will be easily displaced the oil in the filter is reliant on oil pressure, so it’s not going to move that oil that you have soaked the filter in, until the oil pressure is up and moving around the system. Also, if you say the oil pressure takes a second or two, to build up and the car does that once a year for its annual oil change then it is only maybe 10-20 seconds over 10 years that the car is without oil, as there is always oil left on parts from the previous running, it is simply not worth my time or hassle messing about soaking filters in oil, getting oil everywhere and making even more of a mess just for the sake of 10 seconds in 10 years (when I won’t own the car anywhere near as long as that)
