i have a co2 laser cutter that has the power to cut glass. and a 5w laser diode that has the power to mark/engrave glass. BUT. it is extremely hard to not crack the glass with the heat diffrence. so i am just blown away by what i am seeing in the video.

please please please try this on tempered glass, i'm so curious to see if it would shatter. Thinking of the Mythbusters episode where they tried to drill as well as Cody's lab where he tried to get through with acid. Curious to see if it would shatter too!

It uses heat, so I'd assume that it re-tepers the glass and surrounding area. I might be wrong though.

normal glass cracks when you try to engrave it with a co2 laser. (unless you pre heat the glass but the temp diffrence will always be huge) so i am guessing they heated this pane up. or that it is some kind of heat treated glass. (but who knows maybe we are all being fooled and it's actually some form of plexiglass)

Probably optical glass, that has much lower absorption. The beam is also probably focused, so the required intensity is only reached in a small area. Fun fact: one method of tuning pulse lasers is to focus the beam into a point in space and then tune by hearing. The electromagnetic intensity in the focus point will ionize air and make sparks -> loudest noise = best tuning.

Sorry for the late reply, I just went to our fiber metal cutting machine exhibition.😃 This machine is mainly used for glass drilling and cutting, and it can be used for engraving, but the effect is not good enough, because the pulse width of the machine will limit the engraving operation.
