That fiber was dirty as hell after you cleaved it. You can see debris on the fiber (looked like a string or hair). Need better fiber discipline. Keep it clean.

I like AFL's splice terminations as well. If you have a splicer handy its well worth using them. So much faster if your working with large numbers of fibers.

A friend just received their fiber optic internet installation. They used Corning RPX 6F fast access drop cable with six fibers in it. It is becoming standard to use six fibers in for SFD and MFD units. The basis is many single-family dwellings are using their basements as an apartment and that justified having the six fiber networks, So when a tenant moves in, the just terminate and connect another fiber and still have a backup for each with one left for a business home office connection (many corporation now require physical separation between residential internet and work from home and corporate home office access hat is completely separate from residential with its own route and firewall hardware..

@TristynRusselo

The gloves are for safety. Fiber optics is GLASS. there is the possibility of microscopic pieces of glass getting embedded in your skin or transferred into your eyes and mouth. Once inside the body they are impossible to detect and can migrate to bone or nerves causing pain or injury, and can even cause death if they get into the bloodstream and shred your heart valves. Information on this is widely available, just Google fibre safety. Here is one such reference: www.fia-online.co.uk/pdf/pdf/MemDownload/tsd0053-1-02.pdf Optical fibre shards are only 125 μm (1/8 mm) in diameter and can easily penetrate the skin. Penetration of the skin causes pain (sometimes intense if the shard is long enough to reach a nerve fibre or bone) and can cause irritation and inflammation of the affected area. In extreme cases, the wound can become infected. Also shards are difficult to see, particularly in when they are of short length, and can be carried on the surface of the skin and transferred to other areas such as eyes and mouth. A significant feature of optical fibre waste is that once inside the body it is invisible to normal type of analysis including X-rays. It is therefore imperative to implement measures targeted to minimize the risk of ingestion of optical fibre shards during the installation process and afterwards when non-expert users may enter the areas containing optical fibre cabling

Proper gloves are level 5 cut resistant or thick nitrile gloves. Cotton is actually unsafe as the fiber can pierce through with no resistance.
