The black pot is resin pigment - it's used not only to colour the resin and therefore the colour of the fibreglass but also allows to see more clearly the spread of the resin when laying it on coloured fleece material / stretch material.

Yes, you need to use chop mat / mesh for strength. The fleece / fabric is used to make the shapes but it is not strong enough by it's self for any type of enclosure. Most will only use chop but it is actually better to use a combination of chop and mesh in alternating layers for the strongest enclosures. Chop is mainly used to build layers or add thickness and mesh will add strength because the fibers are weaved / intertwined for rigidity

Thank you. This is an answer I've needed for a long time. Always wondered what the purpose of fiberglass cloth was when I always see mat being used like 99.9% of the time... That being said, alternating layers would be a smart thing to do when fiberglassing things like fenders, bumpers, tailgate skins, tailgate spoiler caps, etc? Cause that's what I need to do for my vehicles.

{continued} Despite coming to see the one video (I had to be sure I wasn't crazy and that someone else had done this technique), I stayed to watch many of your videos. Just awesome stuff, best I've seen in finish carpentry and lightyears better than stuff I've seen in car audio. Thanks again.

From Virginia.."Biggest Car Audio Myth," more stated amplifier wattage means more power.. Personally, I love this because I have shown folks who have stated 2000 watt amplifiers the internal workings of the amp only to find 20 gauge wire coming off the 4 awg input terminal to the main board..I've love to see 20 gauge wire handle that sort of amperage.

Biggest myth: sealed sounds better (more SQ) than ported or small woofers are punchier and big woofers are sloppier. I think the jar def has pigment in it. Love the video, especially the chart! My addition is the UV light cures resin without even a need for hardener. The hardener is chemical catalyst, but UV light is a high enough energy form of radiation that it can also catalyze the curing. It's one thing people don't use enough in fiberglassing. Maybe you had a UV bulb in the jar tho?
@LCRLive687
@LCRLive687 Жыл бұрын
Of course sealed sounds better. If better is what you mean by more accurate. Because with ported you are creating secondary sound due to the tuned airspace also influencing the sound as a Helmholtz resonator to get more output.

It is time consuming, but its fun, and it can lead to a lot more attractive results than other fabrication techniques. IF you are going to do it, might as well do it right, and take your time doing so. It really isnt as hard as you think, and since you have me to teach you, you can avoid all the mistakes that I made throughout the years.

It varies, curved areas are naturally stronger and require less than flat areas. Typical range is from 3-6 of 1.5 oz chopmat

To run power on the most direct point of entry to allow shortest length of run which usually is whichever side the battery location is. Thats actually the most direct way to set yourself up for failure. Its actually whichever side the harness for the vehicles rear accessory items and function items will run along. Usually the drivers side for domestic manufacturers and the passenger side for any of the foreign manufacturers that are located in right hand drive countries. Its not

One thing I notice you didn't mention about your resin: With typical store-bought resin as it cures it separates, with a waxy layer on the outside. This is great for a finish that remains smooth and non-sticky, but if you intend to add more layers they will have trouble sticking to each other. That's what "layup" resin is, it's a little more tacky (much like you Mark...j/k!), but will provide the strongest bond between layers. Biggest myth? "SQ" speaker wiring, and to a large extend RCAs.

That container of black stuff looks like resin pigment. It helps you see how well the resin has been wet up. Also, do you use fiberglass cloth? And as far as the biggest car audio myth, I've seen sooo many kids that think the gain is a volume knob.

Your false wall app is probably the most meticulous car audio fab I've witnessed, amazing. I noticed you're using U.S. Composites. Are you in here in West Palm, I was under the impression that's their base? On the chance you are in South Florida, are you available to do do work locally? PS - A week of Solidworks training and partnering with a CNC shop (or your own small CNC) would probably double your productivity!
