Fiberreeds - Carbon vs Carbon Onyx

Thanks for the videos on these reeds. I've had both carbon and hemp. Loved both. The sound, consistency, and amount of play time are why I'm staying with them. Hearing a previous play of the onyx you did has me wanting to check this one out.

You sound great on both and while the carbon does come off as sounding more powerful in this recording; it also has more "buzz" sound than the Onyx to my ears. Thanks for making this video!

Good stuff Johnny! I'm gonna start trying to play again in a few months, needed to give myself some time to recuperate from Oral Surgery. I'm feeling great, so we'll see how it goes.

I have to say. After playing almost every synth reed over the last 10 years my original Carbon is 7 years old and still performs as good as the day I got it ( Bari sax ) . The Hemp is a smoother sound but I only seem to get 9 months out of them before they fade.

It’s so interesting, I’ve been playing on Vandorens for many years. I’m mainly a Jazz player and my teacher would always tell me to play louder. What I would notice is that I would be able to play no problem. But after some time it would dry up super quickly making it harder to play. This wouldn’t be the same case as my other classmates. Thinking of switching to synthetic soon.

I have both and I like both. I do prefer the Carbon, though. The Carbon seems to give me more overtones in my sound and altissimo is easier than with the Onyx.

I gotta say the onyx for me is way too uncontrollably granted I play recreationally but for me it didn’t work out
