Ok this is how Not to do a roof, I bet this is the 450g matting not the 600g! no expansion joints between boards, no gaffer tape across the joints to stop reading getting down between, not a single bandage in sight to reinforce the trims & joints, glue on the mitres? You have to apply resin directly to the OSB, I do these all the time, shocking workmanship, do yourselves a favor, go on Fibreglass course! 🤦‍♂️

I'm sure you are supposed apply resin to the osb and then apply resin again over the strandmatt.

never seen this in the US before. U r right about applying the resin first and also they didn't install the flashings correctly. Should have started on the bottom side of the curb.

@@johnlieb1 Fiberglass (which I'll spell the US way:) ) is rare in the States on flat (or any) roofs because in so many places the weather, sun and freeze thaw cycles are too brutal for it. You can just about get away with it in the UK because the weather here is pretty benign. But read my other comment because even in the UK, unprotected fiberglass will not last as long as advertised.

Almost guaranteed that this will crack. Cant see any expansion joints included. It will probably last 7 years then leak at which time you'll be laying sealed bitumen rolls over the top. The fiberglass (marine quality or not) will expand and contract and then lift and split allowing water ingress. All this is first hand knowledge. To prevent or at least slow down the inevitable failure, roll out and seal some flat bitumen roof felt on top of the fibreglass because this will protect the fibreglass from the UV and direct heat. Do this soon and then the fibreglass will remain a good waterproof membrane. No fibreglass resin/colouring or finish offers true UV protection. Nothing wrong with using fibreglass - it's damn strong - mine has lasted well over 30 years. But I wish I'd protected the fibreglass from the elements with cheap bitumen felt right at the beginning - stuff that you can just keep adding as it, too, disintegrates over the years.

Depending on if they used interlocking boards which I think they did and it looks like they used polyurethane glue between the joints, I agree about the grp though,.I just can't get my head around the common place use of it andost of the flat roofs I'm doing now is replacing these.

Was the osb pre primed prior to laying the matting?

Hmm…. Why no bandaging of the board joints or fillet/ upstand trims around the roof light?.

You are right. The roof light will leak because those upstands have no trims, will crack from weight of roof light and allow rain to roll back under the roof light causing internal damp patches on ceiling below.

Stopped vid again at 6.15 of film……… Obviously the guy that’s sanding the cured roof with a sanding disc is someone that has experience, but mistakes could be made and dig into the cured fibreglass Matt, safer to use hand held piece of sandpaper, yes bit sore on the knees and really- if the work with the roller has been done carefully, then not much sanding would be needed. The main thing to sand being any spikes of Matt as these could pull-in water and in time ruin a fibreglass roof.

Does laying the fibre glass matting process have to be done all together on the roof or can you do half one day then come back to it the next

The whole process needs to be done as one or it wont seal and be strong

Why do they use that wood that is not good and the humidity damages it quickly, especially when the climate changes, they should use treated and good wood since in front of my home they did the same thing that you do and in many cases the roof has rotted, those houses have 5 years of construction since they are new houses

How UV resistant is it? I've seen epoxy products fail very quickly in harsh sun.

It isn't go with an open side,.a drain channel is hassle.

This isn’t a criticism but more of a question………. Why did you sand off the sharp edge of the wood into the shallow gutter on the roof. (I can guess the answer as, ‘to help with the laminating of the fibreglass Matt, easier to laminate over a curve than a 90 degree angle). But as you bought-in pre-laminated edge sections, surly the company would also sell pre-laminated 90 degree edging sections, then also could of been used on the 90 degree internal and top external 90 degree of the skylight. (Hope my explanation isn’t too confusing 😂) Obviously can’t tell from a video, but the Matt looks like 1 x 600 gram Matt, personally I’d prefer either 2 layers of 600 or 2 layers of 450 gram Matt. 😬 Stopped video at 4.55 to make this remark, so now I’ll watch the rest of it 🙂

Make sure your deck is not wet ! As once it's finished the water cannot escape! So it will rot ! Also the air temperature is important it has to be over 5 degrees for 24 hours after fitted !
