Water meters have saved all my plants. I can’t live without them! I also have grow lights because my windows only face east. The grow lights with the water meters helped keep my ficus and money plants thriving!

I put clean and disinfected rocks into the bottom of small pots for soggy bottom drainage issues, in big pots this can make them even heavier though, so I use styrofoam pieces and line the bottom of the pot with that (i break them up into the size of half an egg for a very large pot, also "packing peanuts" are a good size of styrofoam) instead of rocks. to retain water, I use some sheepskin. I have also used quilting stuffing for drainage, called "batting". I learned these tricks from an excellent houseplant grower :)
