I am getting ready for a move and started watching decorating vids. I found myself drawn to you over others. I hadn't watched all your vids, maybe a dozen or so. Now I know why its you....they houseplant link. I am an avid plant collector. My FLF has been a little tricky. From watching this video I think it may be the edema, so I may want to put her on a more rigid schedule. Now let me make a suggestion. Search for Planterina's FLF video. Now that I know we have this in common let me request a video: Arranging part of your plant collection in the common rooms of the house in displays that are attractive and not overwhelming to visitors. Hi what a beautiful collection you have!! I have a fiddle lead fig I bought about 2 years ago and the height is still the same (3.5’ tall..lol). It’s a single skinny stem- no branches. Most of the leaves have fallen off So only the half top has leaves but most of the big leaves tips turned brown and drooping down. The new leaves (most of it in the top area) growing are pretty small and thin in size. What should I do? Should I cut off the bottom half and propagate? Why are they not growing tall and to the right size? And why is the stem sooo skinny?
@JulieKhuu4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like overwatering Yvonne. Water less, let the soil dry out before you water again. I wouldn’t attempt to propagate until February, right before growing season. You want to give it time to recover.

These were great tips, and a good update video. Whenever people ask how to care for this tree, I just tell them to get it as close to a window as possible, and let the soil dry out between waterings. You hit those points perfectly. Personally with my plant, I put it out onto the sun porch in summer. It's leaves grow enormous. And of course, the best thing about them s how great of a decor piece they are, giving a nice vertical element to any space.

I am unsure about the amount to water. I once let my plant go without water for 30 days, then completely watered it to soaked point, let it sit in my tub till it wasn't dripping anymore. It's in a 12 inch pot. My plant has gone through s lot due to lack of knowledge. I first put it in "potting soil" that retained moisture, lall the leaves had brown spots, leaves falling off. Then, I asked the plant person at Lowe's who said to use the cactus mixture. I repotted it again to the cactus mixture, drenched it, let it dry out for a month (notes above). The leaves are very green, looking healthy. I think I need to figure out how much water to water it. For me, weekly is too much, but trying to figure it out. I also have it in an air conditioned room, near a window. It's not always bright in that room, but it seems to like it. I'll next look for a fertilizer specific to the fig. You might want to discuss amounts of water according to the size of plant/pot and soil. Thank you.

@JulieKhuu4 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard they can acclimate to colder climates, if left in a location for them to thrive. I would get a small plant and see how it does in your brightest window Sarana. I would assume you have the heat on indoors, so that helps tremendously 🌿

@JulieKhuu2 жыл бұрын
You may put it directly in soil, but there’s no way of watching it grow (if at all). Cut where you want more branches. The longer the cut stem, the longer it will take to propagate (might be months).

There are three plants in one pot which there is adequate room but the stems are really skinny. 😕 I water them when the gauge indicates but it never drains out the bottom. Am I not giving enough water I don’t want to over do been there done that. I use the same fertilizer but stopped when fall arrived. Any advice?
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
It’s growing season soon Paula, new growth should be seen if the tree is healthy. Maybe bring the pot outside and douse with water to drain with fertilizer. Wait until the soil dries before the next session. Sweet talk the plants, I’m sure with a bit of coaxing they might surprise you this season 😉

Julie, I would like to purchase the fertilizer you mentioned but it comes in a one gallon size. Can you use it on other large house plants? I have a bird of paradise, a raphis palm, a dracena and a fiddle leaf fig. Love your videos!
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
You would have to research the types of nutrients the other plants need Trisha. I have so many FLF plants, I’m happy to hold onto my 1gal size 😅 Maybe see if there’s any smaller versions from another company?

Thank you for the lovely information. Have a question please, I have a picture of a mountain and a large lake and trees. I need the mountain symbol to put it on the south west. Which doesn't go with the lake. How to gather between the earth and water element on the same pic and same direction. Thank you Regards from Sweden
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
Hi Amani, thank you for watching! Water/lake should go on the north direction so unfortunately this picture would not work in the sw. I’m not super critical because I understand the intent. Do what feels right and if you feel the energy shifting, simply move the picture.

Julie, thank you for the helpful info! I just got a new fiddle tree and needed to know basic care for it! This video was perfect. I didn't know you can propagate them! Do you have more info on your method of propagating from just one leaf like you did at the end of the video? Do you just put it in water and wait for roots to grow?

I have a whole video on propagation on my channel Breanna, check it out 👍🏻🌿☺️

My FLF tree is getting holes in a couple of branches. What do I do and why is this happening. It's a small but growing well since I bought it a couple of months ago. Please advise thanks
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
I get holes in my leaves as well. If it’s small, I keep the leaves on the stem. If it’s large, I cut the leaf so the tree expends it’s energy growing new, healthy leaves. Hope this helps Estela!

When you say water how much water should you put in a 10 inch pot? 2 cups 3 cups? More?
@JulieKhuu2 жыл бұрын
Start with 2 cups and see how your plant does after the week Pat. You can adjust accordingly if you find it’s too try

Hi, Im a newbie and someone gave me a cutting of fiddle leaf fig with 4 leaves. I had soaked it in 1/4 water with indirect sun. I heard it needs rooting powder and after a week of the stem with water, I am not sure how to dip it in the rooting powder. Can I still dip the stem in the rooting powder? Can I also take out 2 leaves and experiment to grow roots on the leaves? What's my option, water or direct soil to grow root after dipping in rooting powder. I Need yourhelp. Thank you.
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
You may do either option Jocelyn, but I have only propagated my stems in water so I can watch it grow. Rooting powder grown in soil doesn’t allow you to monitor it, but works successfully nonetheless by the amount of comments I get. Try both 👍🏻🌿

I purchased 3 fiddles last week. One has spots and I was told not a problem. Now several leaves have spots. I believe you stated edema. What should I do?
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
Edema happens to the best of them. Sometimes they grow out green and verdant. Just monitor them and watch your watering Yolanda. Cut back a bit if the edema persists

I have this tree.. I put it inside and water it here and there every week and the leaves started to dry out and turn brown... I put it outside and rarely water it and it's doing really good.🤔

My fiddle fig is 3 years old and only 8 inches tall! It had 2 leaves, now 8, it is March now. My daughter said to plant it in a bigger pot, just scared because it looks happy, just a little small.
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
Give it some time, FLF actually likes a pot scaled to its size so the roots can reach watered soil faster. Bigger pot, more time it takes to wet the roots. But yes, as the tree grows larger you can certainly repot to the next size up 👍🏻

I have 3 fiddle leaf trees now my son gave me another one. This one is 6 foot /feet tall it really looks bad. I did everything that I know. It’s showing roots on top of the soil but now it is also given me 5 new leaves they are just starting. ? Is can I repot the plant while it’s given me new leaves. Thank you

Yes, repot or simply add more soil to cover the roots Nancy 👍🏻

Hi, I’ve read that a single leaf propagation of a fiddle leaf will result in a leaf with roots but will never grow a stem and grow into a tree; only stems with a leaf/leaves will. Can you please confirm if that’s true from your experience in propagating your fiddle leaf?
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
So far, that’s true. My leaf is growing more leaves, but not a separate stem

I see some people twist and combine two fiddle leaf to one and make a stronger stem without relying a supporting sticks, is that even possible? That two stems combined perfectly and doesn’t look like it used to be two seperate fiddle leaf…
