Hello Rian, the computer software is temporary writen in labview. The embedded program in the PIC microcontroller runs the whole Fiddle Yard program standalone. The program on the PC is there to command the program inside the PIC (init, start, stop, manual control etc) and to receive diagnostic information. Like switch positions, encoder position, occupied tracks etc. Therefore after an init and a start you could basicaly turn off the PC while the PIC keeps on running.

Phenomenal accomplishment! Excellent work I could see model railroad clubs in the U.S utilizing this. This looks like the type of work put forth by an electrical or mechanical engineer. Are you in either of those fields?

Love it, that is the best auto fiddle yard i have ever seen.
@DaleSchultz-mixmox12 жыл бұрын
good stuff. One question though... why did you need the drawbridge ramps and the associated complication of raising and lowering them? Why not simply have a fixed rail in place that lines up with the moving tracks?

Thank you for your answer! In september, i go to my last year of secondary technical education, and i have to make a project, something like a 'small' thesis. And inspired by your video, and someone else, i want to construct and describe a fiddleyard like yours, but I think that i will replace the pc by a simple control panel with some led's and buttons.

Mechanical construction took about 4 months, programming done by my son took about 1 year (only evenings)

Can you command the hole thing with the computer software you've written for it? What is the function from the software?

The new fiddle yard which is now being built has no more bridges. The choice was determined by the motors which were used. The processor was not able to stop. exactly. The bridges then where als used for connecting de wires of the tracks. There are now maxon motors so that problem is now solved

This is the first test of a warehouse, shadow station, for 22 trains. This test was conducted in 2010 but was modified later. The fiddle yard was not connected to the layout during this test. See for other video's Siebwalde channel or www.siebers.org

Way, way too complicated for a simple task like staging. Impressive but over engineered.
