5:00 You know what I did? I bought a splined hex socket and took it on a lathe. I also took the tires and wore the socket until it was in the perfect fit. Think of a beautiful thing!

Thank you for talking about the pinon gear. Didn't see many other people mention it.

Put em on; you'll love em. You'll def need to change the gearing; i put in a 20 tooth pinion and a 46 tooth spur and still get up to 40mph, which is plenty fast for me; i don't race or anything like that, just bash around off road or run up and down the road. If you don't change your gearing, you WILL have over heating issues within just a few minutes due to the different turns ratio(the tires are a larger diameter than stock, so you have to gear down). I have the 3.8 trencher HP belted on mine because i got tired of my stock tires ballooning; these do NOT balloon at all. Def a bit heavier, but a fair trade off. The non belted WILL balloon, same as the stock. To understand what ballooning is, flip your truck over and accelerate your tires and watch how they "balloon" up and loose their form; its rediculous; belted tires dont do that; imagine if the tires on you real car didn't have belts in them; they'd do the same thing. Anyway, get the belted ones; again, heavier and a bit more oricey, but worth it. Hope this helps ya.

Snap on 3/8 drive 17mm socket fits just fine in stock wheel. I’d what sockets you have but mine fits justttt fine. Couldn’t agree more about terrible tire compound.

Love the Maxx and looking to upgrade the tires to the ones in your video as well. I'm still learning everything about RC since im just getting into it as a hobby myself. I have the widemaxx kit, and also have the widemaxx steel cvds, if I get those bigger tires would it be wise to gear down to the 20t pinion as well? I don't do any crazy jumping yet, mostly dirt, grass and beach runs for now until im comfortable with it. I've also read on the traxxas forums about gearing down if you add weight from upgrades like the widemaxx kit/steel cvds. I'm guessing gearing down helps the motor slow down a tad because of the added weight? Awesome video and very helpful for beginners as myself, keep up the good vids dude!

Hey man, what tires did you end up getting? Did you get 3.8s? If so did you gear down

Finally, someone that talks sense 👍 Although, the wider arms and the LP's are a great combo 😁

the widemaxx kit is installed on mine with steel axles ,there's absolutely no comparison.. don't knock it until you try it... i did the spring change and put 70wt shock oil in the front and 80wt in the back. very little chassis slap. i've got a 22 t pinion and the regular 3.8 badlands. traxxas batteries don't have enough power imo , I'm running socokin 6500 mah 100c packs.

How’d that gear work out? Putting these tires on my sons max this weeks.

If you've already put the tires on and didnt gear down, you should have already rewlized the over heating issue. I put in a 20 tooth pinion and 46 tooth spur and have 0 heat ssues and still hit 40 mph, which is plenty nuff for me.

Sorry Man , but I put widemaxx kit on mine , and it's so much better, for me #1 upgrade.

You don't have to be sorry. It's a good upgrade if you want more stability. I even point that out at the end of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnrSY3qqaJyhbas. I don't agree with Traxxas' spring rates/adjustments for the WideMAXX installation. That's a whole 'nother video right there. I'm more or less trying to point out that the stock tires are too soft/pliable and cause severe traction rolling and that the WideMAXX kit is a band-aid to that problem. What tires are you running with your WideMAXX kit?
