I've found I can lay the bike on the exhaust side, put it in top gear and turn the wheel back and forth until the motor turns over. Lift the front up to tip water out of the exhaust then stand it up and start it.

I like Chris Birch's recommendation to always cover the kill switch when crossing water. It can make the difference in saving a bike from becoming a U-Boat. :)

1 more tip. more so than not, you will end up with water in the oil. check the sight glass. If its over full there's water in there.

Easy to tell since it will look like chocolate milk. Don't ask me how I know

This. I drowned a vstrom but /good/ once and (rightly or wrongly) wound up doing three oil changes to get rid of all the milkshake.

You're very lucky that the water is clear and clean as opposed to dirty and silty.

So whats a good LITTLE power bank / jump starter to carry?

Somebody (Mike!!!) needs to come up with an aftermarket air box for the KTM's that is less likely to fill up with water from a simple left-side tipover.

I was thinking of 3d printing a solution for this which would be a kind of manifold at the neck of the intake with a kind of switching valve with a temporarily fixable, flexible hose (for portability) which I could ensure went up high enough to safely cross when needed. Working on this in my head only, not in cad yet.

This same thing happened to a buddy of mine. Water got in the oil and it ended up cracking the cam carrier and locking the engine after startup.

what about water in oil?
@TACOMOTOCO2 ай бұрын
That is a risk for sure in a water dunking, for this one no water was pulled into the engine through the crankcase breather hose
