Great idea on the "adjusting piece" you made. Made mine after seeing yours. I used a piece of 12 gauge wire glued to a pellet. I made 2. One is 5.52 and the other 5.53. Thanks for the tip.

Ken, the pellet goes head down. The sizer eject mechanism takes up one side, the other is open. The skirt is facing the seater tool (with the blue ball at the end) and lightly pushed down. After this process, the pellet is ejected with the spring mechanism

Rob, I've been experimenting with a similar design, I'm waiting for the dies to be made, and I'm going to try to make dies myself. One of the reasons is a pellet of that design would be tough to use, would be the weight. It would be too heavy to be practical for any division of Field Target use. As a hunting platform, that style of pellet would have to be pushed to much higher velocities to stabilize, and you would require a more aggressive twist in the rifling.

Ken, I'm going to film another one on this sizer, I don't know why it is as blurry as it is. I have better cameras now.....

Which way does the pellet go into the sizer?

Ryan, the length of the plunger IS adjustable, it's just that it is a flat brass piece that the head of the pellet sits on when bottomed out, and properly sized. If one puts TOO much pressure on it after it stops, then you will put a flat on the dome of the pellet. It takes a "feel" for the first dozen or so, after that, you'll know how much pressure you can and can't put on the plunger to eliminate damage. The flat piece of brass should be cupped or contoured so this does not happen, I'm in the process of modifying mine. I'm working on putting out a clearer version of this video, filmed with a much better camera in a few weeks, I never realized it was as blurry and grainy as it is.

Wrong. It is the "stop" that is adjustable. There is a problem with making the plunger adjustable (so that it pushes the pellet to the "same spot"/size diameter of the tapered sizing tube). The problem is: not only are pellets different in their diameter, they are also different in their length. Pushing different length pellets with a "measured plunger" would still result in pellets of different head sizes. The "pellet stop" design is correct ...except for potential differences in the length of the head (which wouldn't have as much variance as the entire pellet length)

@@randycooper3940 , I probably need to clarify myself. What I meant by adjustable plunger, is the brass piece that the head of the pellet sits. The part with the ball that pushes the pellet down, does need to stay as it is designed. I eventually cupped the brass part that the head of the pellet stops on, makes a big difference. This is my go to sizer, and a really great tool.

Exactly: You said it yourself, "...the part that the head of the pellet "stops on". This is NOT the plunger as the commenter suggest should have the "adjustable" part of the design. Wouldn't work due to variances in pellet length. The design is correct.

And no ..I'm affiliated with the t.r. robb sizer in any way ...I don't even own one. Would like to though. Tell you something else I would do if I owned one: Since the "taper" of the sizing tube is so "slight" ..resulting in a skirt that may very well not be large enough ..I would experiment with running pellets through TWICE. 1st time to size the head ..2nd time, after screwing in the adjustable "stop", so that the skirt can be "sized" just a bit larger (a regular ole BB fits the inside of a skirt perfectly ..just build a new "plunger" affixed with a BB to "re-size" the skirt to just a bit larger diameter. [This is the one complaint I've heard concerning this "sizer". It is "better" (than a "push through re-sizer) since it's tapered, but it STILL re-sizes the skirts too small to seal the bore. This technique may very well remedy this issue.

@@randycooper3940 Yes, but then you'd have to readjust the stop for the skirt sizing process. I think a slightly more aggressive taper would remedy the issue that you mentioned, then no adjustment of the stop would be needed. I use this sizer to size H&N Field Target Trophy 8.64's, and found that the dimensions of this sizer are perfect. I would agree with your statement that the skirt on some pellets might not flare out enough with this sizer.

They made the pellet sizer wrong, they should of made the lenght of the plunger adjustable. Then you wouldn't have to worry about flattening the head.

with the pellet design as it is why aren't there more boat tail style pellets. With no skirt to be damaged wouldn't it make more since to use them
@therodenthitman

Because pellets are drag stabilized, they need the skirt. See how your gun likes piledrivers, there's your boat tail.
