I know I'm about a bazillion years late to the party here, but I really do enjoy these videos. I actually really like going to the military surplus outlets and such to buy my favorite MREs, and the almost hardtack-like crackers are actually one of my favorite parts of it. I absolutely love to dunk in my instant coffee or tea, and there's just something warm, comforting and nostalgic about it for me. I wasn't ever in the military because of physical and mental health disorders (I did try but absolutely no one was willing to take me on😢), but when I was a cub scout and then boy scout, I was in a troop where the leader was ex-military, and we kinda did have to keep a very boot camp-like schedule while camping. That's where I got to try my very first cheesy macaroni and beef MRE, and I was absolutely hooked. I highly doubt you'll ever see this but thank you so very much for bringing back one of the very few happy memories I still have. It's been a lot of fun to watch, and I very much appreciate your videos. Have a great day! 😁

I have always lived the ideas of ready to eat meals. Back when school field trips were a thing that happened to me, I would pack my own "mre" and try to fit a good meal in as small a space as possible. I still do it once in a while. My best meal so far was a medium piece of cooking chocolate and peanut butter, a bowl of ramen and dried greens in my canteen cup, and some instant coffee I mixed with powdered creamer. Discounting the water, I could fit it all into the smallest pocket of my backpack while still boasting a calorie count of 650.

Very enjoyable! Haven't been able to visit with my Daughter for the past 9 months (Covid and all that) so we've been doing silly stuff on line. She got stuck into buying and unboxing Business Class airline amenity kits (10 to date!) so I started weaning her off onto things like MREs and Ration Packs. Tomorrow we're each doing Menu 9 - the third or fourth of the RCIR packs we've tried so thanks for the talk through. We've agreed to steer clear of the Polish Army ones in future (her maternal grandfather was Polish) Never though of bain-marie cooking for the hot meals - good tip. As you set off I noticed you walked past a water point and I thought "he's going to regret not topping up!" French soldiers get a pocket knife called a Tatou - it's a bit like the old West German Bundeswehr (Swiss made!) knife but with a spoon and a fork that can be clipped into the handle which explains the cheapo folding spork. The Tatou also has a bottle/can opener and, being French, a corkscrew. Re the muesli bag - you can dent a fold into the bottom of the package, a bit like making a share size packet of crisps stand up, and that makes all the difference. Looking forward to tomorrow - especially when she asks "How did youknow that?" Take care and many thanks.

I found your channel recently, it was the £2 for 2 days challenge and I've just loved going through your videos ever since. John Warosa/Barosa, toucan specials, don't eat hemlock, odd thumbs, I love all of it! I know there's a chance you won't find this interesting to read because you read these types of comments all the time, but this is the first time I've had this thought, so I just wanted to say thanks for putting all this work into videos I get to enjoy. What I like most is that you like to share with us how you personally prefer to enjoy things. I get really self conscious if someone is watching me eat, I don't want them to judge how I eat my food, but you just go for it and say how you like it. And it's interesting! Pate isn't appealing to me, personally, so the idea of eating the jelly horrifies me, but it doesn't bother me that you like the jelly, I'm not judging you at all, so maybe people wouldn't judge me when I eat? I'm going to try and remember that the next time it happens again. Anyway, I think you're channel is awesome, really glad I found it! I'm learning, I'm entertained, I'm soothed to sleep, you get it all here!

@FJ_Beaujangles3 жыл бұрын
Great review, and I've learned from a few of your videos rations are sometimes quite pleasant overall. Honestly it looks like soldiers might eat better than me, ahaha Great job on the long walk too! You talked towards the end there about just putting your head down and deciding to keep going. That was a good move; I take very long walks for fun nowadays but from the start of my experience I can say 8 hours and 15(?) miles is really nothing to scoff at, and these kinds of walks as much a mental game as they are a physical one. Even a body that isn't in great shape like mine was at the beginning can still make it, because after a while the physical toll of walking becomes so monotonous it almost seems like you're expending brain power instead of muscle power. It's when you stop to rest that the brain and muscles both have a chance to relax, and that's when the physical toll and realization thereof kick in and as you mentioned you just don't get back up, at least until the physical part of it has recovered a bit. As you can probably tell while I enjoyed the ration bit of the video, I actually did pay more attention to the walk and your thoughts of it. You forage and field test these thing fairly often so I imagine you aren't hugely out of shape by any means, but it is interesting to hear the thoughts of someone walking 8 hours who, well, doesn't normally walk for 8 hours! I remember walking home from a reunion over the course of 3 hours in humid 95 degree (Fahrenheit) heat, and if you aren't prepared for the trip you better prepare for the feeling of your brain melting any time you try to use it. If I'd known what I had started then I would have killed even for some of that isotopic mango tea!

Just a detail from a french viewer. Cassoulet is made with flageolet bean not white bean. I am just throwing that out there. It's nice to see what our military are eating.

Reminds me of being a kid back in France. My dad was a gendarme in a town with different garrisons. Whenever he paid them a visit they would give him stuff ranging rations to sleeping bags (which I still have 30 years later, was the best to sleep in the Sahara desert) . We got to try the most random stuff but they always rated good and left us sad that we couldn't buy them in shops.
