Another great episode, Ian, thanks for showing us how much hard work, skill, and a little bit of luck is required. Glad you got some decent light for a bit, some nice images. Clever use of the JetBoil canister stand as an eating 'utensil' 🙂. That's wild about skiing/riding off there, I assume the hut is closed in the winter?? Thanks again..

Thanks Paul.... the hut is closed in winter, would be great if it wasn't. There is one open at the start of the hike (top of ski resort) that is open that I've used in winter before to ride that descent. You should be there before 1pm to ski it with out sun effected snow, so that hut can help in that sense. People use it for sunrise photo sessions in the alpine in winter.

Have you ever ran into someone carrying your bags and they recognize you?

Not often enough that I can remember. Maybe once or twice, but I will usually approach people first and then familiarity may strike. But even then I don't live in a heavily populated area and it's even less odds in the mountains. If I did not have glasses I don't think anyone would notice me :)

What a great video, Ian! Been loving my X50 for the last more than two years and it's still going strong. Never came across a better bag for landscape photography, not even close. But lately I've also been looking for some smaller/lighter more compact backpack, especially for days when my focus is more on hiking, less on photography, but still want to carry a small cam setup with me. Been searching for those typical hiking backpacks but never found a really good one which would fit for me and my needs. In the meantime I'm thinking about simply getting also the X30 for this very reason. It's smaller, lighter with lower profile and I already have an ICU and then wouldn't need to sacrifice all the benefits and comforts of my beloved X50. And since it is adjustable in height it should also fit my 6"2. This might be the most obvious solution for that "problem".

Another fine video, Ian. Beautiful images the first night. Glad you were able to make those images since the morning weather did not cooperate. Those type of conditions exist for all of us. Almost refreshing to see it on a video. I've had my Action X50 for several months now and absolutely love the quick access it gives me via the back panel and the comfort carrying my photog gear and layers. I AM an old man, but this pack makes me feel much younger! I have been the recipient of the look that says "Gambatte Ojisan."

Thanks Russ, it feels like the entire summer was with bad weather... not having much luck this season. Hoping for a break in the weather tomorrow... fingers crossed nothing gets the way.
Love this new episode. A new bunch of authenticity and humanity. Hey Thanks Ian! Hey! you're far to be old guy! But yeah. Since I became a dad, and having my first white hair. Youngers call me "monsieur". Crazy! Even they got me 35 (I am 10 more), tha't crazy! Ah ah ah Anyway. I love thw Field Trips format. Gives me the need to move further! Thanks for this inspiration!

Hi Ian, I'm a wildlife biologist who loves to photograph wildlife while I'm working. The Action X30 was the bag I chose after shopping for camera bags for a very long time. I've been using it almost daily while I work and it has been a pleasure to use. Have you ever thought about making a smaller replacement for the zip-in storage "bag" that goes in the top of the bag? I have found that using that area is more difficult with the larger core units(I have the mirrorless medium and large) because the zip-in storage is all crumpled up.

Thanks for sharing another adventure! Still loving my Action X30 bag. How does the hut have electricity way up there?

Hi Rogers, for the most part generators. I can't say I've noticed any other power sources.

Thanks, I had debated whether to edit the footage for while or just move on and call it a loss :) I was pleasantly surprised it came together on some level. It has really been a tough summer. Rain nearly everyday, which is OK - but the overcast clouds are hard on photography trips. For much of this trip I was thinking how I might be able to break the cycle and generate some new luck.

😊Forget to pack cutlery? Or is that implement some sort of specialised noodle eating device, looked like a gas canister base to me!
@ShimodaDesigns2 жыл бұрын
You guessed it. Was the closest thing I had to cutlery. I would have asked at the hut but the are one of the less accommodating huts I've been too. I've had this stove for atleast 10... almost never use the base mount... or wash it ;) Maybe that's why I have a soar throat today.
