that tree already has nice roots but i can see how they can be beautiful even radial roots. Nice explanation too as to how air or ground layers should be done properly. I look forwards to seeing how this specimen ages with you.

Nice work Kennet, and thoroughly enjoyable to see this technique. As you say field maples are really tough, so this should do well. I'll look forward to seeing some updates on this as I have quite a few field maples and perhaps this could be something to use on the ones with poor roots.

Great demonstration and I certainly haven't seen that method of scraping away around the intended root flare for new roots. I will definitely have tosubscribe for 2 years at least to see the results 🤣😂 Beautiful Forsythia at the front :)

A seedling in the garden: 6 or 7 years I think. Grts

Wouldn't it have been a much safer way to do this before chopping the tree and doing it in May, when it's in full leaf? That way the tree already has lots of leafs that will be able to feed the new roots. In your case the tree has to make the leafs that will feed the roots first and it doesn't have many buds because you chopped the tree before. Anyway, I hope this works. Crossing my fingers for this tree.

Hello There will be roots in autumn, but I´ll check to see if there´s plenty before I remove the rest (probably next spring). Yep, Belgium/Halle Grts Kennet
