Fieldsports Britain - good, old-fashioned pigeon shooting

Charliefox has always been shot with .22 all my shooting life a lot of kentish keepers only had rimfire as deer in East Kent were unheard of when I started been involved with shooting ,you learnt to squeak your fox in .22 worked perfectly out to 60mtrs ,the first large calibre I heard of was in early 90s was .243 that sorted Charlie out of .22 range

Sublime show tonight. Thank you, Charlie and team! Fantastic to see Andy Crow back again. As for the news about the RSPB, what can you say? It beggars belief that they do such a truly sh!t job on capercaillie that they want to forget about protecting or cherishing the ones we have and go and get some new ones because their policy is broken. I know modern society views everything as "disposable", but disposable red listed birds is beyond satire.

Shooting foxes with a .22 shouldn't be an issue up to your abilities to make the shot. The US Army did a study and found that a .22 will kill a man at a ridiculous distance something like 800 yards. Generally speaking I hold my shots well under 100 yards with the double duece unless the quarry is tin can. I feel no remorse about wounding a can.

Can somebody tell me what the model number is for the Peltor hearing protection and who stock them?

I have a pair of 3M Peltor LEP100's (look the same as in the video, just yellow). They charge in their storage box, come with various earpieces and are adjustable to 3 levels. I got mine via eBay from journey, where they were far cheaper then UK suppliers. If you leave them on, they last about 90 minutes, but you can switch them on and off at the push of the button (on/off and choice of 3 levels on the one button), depending on what you are doing.

22lr is not a good for fox's at all. I have seen too many injured. And when in the hands of a 6 year old it's not safe for anyone. Yet the police seem to think they are a good rifle for beginers, even though they pick up for fun.

Have to say not really in agreement with Jaf on the .22 lr suitability for Fox .On a Windless evening with a rock steady rest ,I’d be quite happy to head shoot them at 100yds.

Fair comment , it’s my own personal choice I know what they are capable of but I had a fox that didn’t go down once after shooting it with the .22 and I vowed to my self not to take the chance again , I don’t condone any one else doing it it’s just not my weapon of choice anymore

.22 and foxes... I have taken them at 75m with no problem at all. Raccoon at 30m with a subsonic round straight through the skull. It can be done if you know your limits.
