Fieldsports Britain - old-fashioned walked-up shooting

A gentle walked-up day with Paul, looking for pheasant and maybe woodcock on his shoot in Bedfordshire. He is shooting an old side-by-side with new steel-shot cartridges, and cooking the pheasants in the woods. Staying on food (it's Christmas), game meat specialist Jack Hills provides his recipe for venison sausage rolls. And as it's Christmas, it's time for our annual bloopers' reel - all the whoopsies and upsets that went into our filming in 2020. There is a group of people who are not filled with Christmas charity, and they are the animal rights extremists who want to stop us hunting, shooting and fishing by all means they can. News editor Ben O'Rourke unearths a new publication that's nothing short of a terrorists' handbook, on how to steal working dogs and hounds, smash up highseats, butchers' windows and game farms. It's a tiny minority compared to the number of channels on KZbin putting up films about hunting and shooting. Charlie has the best of these videos in Hunting KZbin. Fantastic! Old guns & old cartridges are still valid, working; calling back memories, when I was young, I did it. I like field sports, hope young people can do it. When I stayed at Asia areas, I found seldom people do it, there are many people & Buddhist who promote protection, no killing or vegetarian; or ask government prohibited. Now, except working, many people are not allowed to buy guns & do those field sports, they attend to do eating, drinking, playing video games, having drugs or doing something sexual or nonsense or illegal, getting fatter, weaker and degenerated, especially I found this situation is getting serious in Taiwan island. Please promote those field sports to Asia areas. Thank you very much. Merry Christmas 🎄 ❤️

I collect paper cartridges as they are quite rare here in the US. I pick them up every time I go to an estate auction but have not seen any in years. Would never dream of actually shooting them. This is actually hunting! Not just shooting like the driven game. Much more my style.

That's one heck of a wood: Grouse, woodcock, pheasant and jumpbuck (?). If I see 4 grouse in a day here in Southern Ontario or a woodcock that's a good day. Walking along with my dog and bagging a few birds is my idea of a great hunt.

I've often wondered why paper cartidges haven't made a comeback recently. Other than water resistance, is there any benefit in plastic cases?

I like them - though I lost half a drive on a shoot this season when one of my Hull Crown paper cases got stuck in the barrel. Now I use a couple of plastic cartridges to warm the barrels and the Hulls don't stick. / Charlie

Trail hunting is where hounds and hunt followers go out after a laid trail. Tony Blair restricted hunting foxes with more than two hounds. / Charlie
