​@@fieldsportstv Hello Charlie, we don't have gamekeepers as such, we have the landowners who looks after their land, and the game that lives there and do the pest controlling.And we have professional hunting guides, some are registered like i am,, and a few not registered, and so they don't have insurance incase of unfortunate accidents.They hunt in private lands by permission from the landowner and public lands too.If the land is a public land, then anyone can hunts there and basically there is not much of any rules and regarding regarding the number of game that can be taken and how they are shot and the time,, day or night or other regulations,, and most of the time hunting is all year round on those public lands.Most of the pest control on those lands are done by government which in most cases is the drop of 1080 poison from air by choppers, a real menounos, as it kills inhumanly if the game doesn't take the full dosage of the poison.We have see Red hinds that have only taken a few pallets and not enough to kill them, blood coming out of their eyes and nose, the abort their fetus and it hangs off their backside and have unquenchable thirst stay near the creeks and rivers and if they see hunters they walking towards them to put them out of their misery,, and that is a true blue fact and no bull,,,a real heart braking.Have a great day and best regards,, Tony.

Hi there Geoff, was a gamekeeper in Glasgow area,in 80s. All the changes of trapping are for the best. People have to realise that " if "we" remove the top of our animal/vermin kingdom,as we have.wolf,bear,fox,pigeon for example "We " have to replace the predators that preyed on them and their prey/food. Loved Geoff Garrod's piece. Beating on a pheasant and partridge shoot I know that 'wildlife managers' are under huge public and political scrutiny but they are the most law-abiding people you will come across, with a moral compass far better than your average man or woman in the street.

I was a keeper in the seventys and this is exactly what I did but we did have a massive bag off tricks we could use Geoff knows what I mean for pest control!

Loved the ep, nice really getting to see the day to day of gamekeepers for the last few decades. And the bit about the people in ukraine should hit home in people here. Its civilians doing major work thats helping the Ukrainians keep fighting

Amazing an expert keeper as he says and fox snaring really don’t understand how to snare fox.. rebar stake holding snare sticking up acting a a kill bar, as every fox will wrap around bar and choke.. now I’m surprised, field sports channel showed such set up, or maybe its cause you don’t know, I’m no anti, Ive been snaring for over 40 years, but people who don’t share same interests as many here will pic up on the snare code that wasn’t followed in video

Unfortunately in Wales you now cannot shoot Rooks,Magpies,Jays ,Jackdaws and even Carrion Crows have a season !Try and get a cull license!🙄As Geoff said song birds and all ground nesting birds will suffer badly!

When did shooting Russians become a field sport? I'm not comfortable with this part of the episode. Keep it about the countryside. The Geoff Garrod bit was fantastic, but to highlight how hunters make good snipers- shooting human beings.... I'd be very careful with this content. Doesn't sit easy with me.

I think it is good content. Civilian marksmanship has been important to many countries during wartime because sport shooters preserve skills the military often does not. The USA used civilian trainers to start up their designated marksman program in the early 2000s. English game keepers were recruited to act as snipers and sniper instructors during the First World War. There have been many more instances throughout the years with many countries including in this new war in Ukraine. This subject is one more reason governments should not restrict Civilian firearms ownership and field sports. The skills sportsmen preserve and pass on are a strategic resource that once lost is very had to rebuild.

Larsen traps really are nasty. Corvids are incredibly intelligent. Keeping a decoy locked up like that- sometimes for months- really is barbaric. Even keeping the ones they catch alive for up to 24 hours between checks is inhumane too. I agree their numbers should be controlled. But Larsens are not the humane way to do it.....

I’m no hater but I cannot get my head around why some people think killing magpies and crows and catching them in inhumane Larson traps increase song birds etc at feeders , they will come regardless . Maybe they are trying to convince joe public 😣These keepers are more concerned about preserving the pheasant eggs laid in areas were they have been purposely over populated to increase numbers so the tweed jacket brigade can shoot them . The mentality is crazy , I actually know an old game keeper who thinks birds or prey need to be controlled to protect songbirds 😮 ffs . Or and why the heck would you want to shoot woodcock and Jack snipe 😮 , ban em all and if you want to shoot , shoot paper targets , leave nature alone ya bullies 😂😂

Dear sir, we thought foxes wer a natural predator a useful creature to get rid of many other so called pests !? In fact many good farmers think the same !? We,d b interested in your professional thoughts on this !? Or wud it spoil your fun not being able to control control control everything !? Mayb it's cruel humans who need controlling !?
