Watching another video, as soon as Sailing Florence popped up, instantly I switched over. Love them so much it was an easy decision, best sailors on KZbin. Go while the going is good, weather and tides must take priority. Thank you, Matt and Amy…from an old fan, retired in the US foothills of east Tennessee Smoky Mountains. P.S. ABSOLUTELY LOVE scallops!

Well, that episode had personal resonance! You sailed past Whitehaven where my wife was born (she arrived in NZ on Anzac Day 1953 to find NZ shut!). One of my great grandfathers came from the Isle of Man - he emigrated to Paisley, Scotland, and thence to NZ arriving in 1860. He had one of the typical names from the Isle of Man, which suggests the family may have been there for some time, but I haven't been able to trace them beyond a further generation. One of NZ's favourite TV hosts, Pio Terei, made an episode or two on the Isle of Man, and went crazy over the seafood there, in particular the kippers from the place that you missed out on visiting... Sob. Apparently a taste treat. Thanks for another cracking episode.

The three-legged flag of the Isle of Man, also known as the "Three Legs of Mann," is a symbol representing the island's resilience and strength, with the three legs often interpreted as a representation of the sun, power, and life, potentially originating from ancient pagan beliefs; the design is called a triskelion and is thought to have been adopted from the Sicilian royal family due to historical connections with the Isle of Man's rulers. Thanks for sharing.

It really has been a quite horrendous summer season for your round Britain sailing trip, this year. I dont think you could have picked a worse year if you tried.! What it would have been like in your proposed northern latitudes exploration, you probably know better than me, but I do know that Greenland weather is very much under a Canadian "umbrella" and the Greenlandic videos which I've received this year, all show continental blue skies with strong sunshine (and that indeed was my personal experience in the past). So, let's look forward to your next year.!

This area is like past home to me, as my Viking forfathers controled these Islands. Some of my forfathers also controled Dublin....so I am basically a royality Ketill Björnsson (Ketill Flatnefur) was the son of Björn Grímsson. In the Laxdaela saga he is recorded as being from Romsdal (Raumsdal), a valley in the county of Møre og Romsdal, between Nordmøre and Sunnmøre and from Sogn in the Landnámabók. Most of Ketill's family eventually emigrated to Iceland. Ketill's wife was Yngvild Ketilsdóttir, daughter of Ketill Wether, a hersir from Ringerike. They had a number of children, including Bjǫrn Ketilsson, who lived at Bjarnarhofn; Helgi "Bjolan" Ketilsson, who lived at Esjuberg on Kjalarnes; Thorunn Ketilsdatter, wife of Helgi the Lean, the first settler in Eyjafjordur bay; and Jorunn Ketilsdatter. Ketill's daughter, Aud the Deep-Minded, married Olaf the White, King of Dublin. Their son, Thorstein the Red, briefly conquered much of northern Scotland during the 870s and 880s before he was killed in battle. Aud and many members of her clan settled in the Laxdael region of Iceland. So my family has live in same area ( Dalasýsla) in Iceland last 1100 years

Marvellous, always top quality work - an absolute pleasure to watch. Out of interest, do you use paper charts as a backup at all? You've undertaken some challenging navigation so I wonder what your plan is if the electrics pack up at the wrong moment?
@atakd

Presumably, like almost everyone, they have multiple stand-alone devices and back up power packs. Paper charts are no more than an historical interest. Even the custom bound Royal Navy no longer use them.

Great video! Just curious as to why we don’t see you using the wind vane when sailing? It appears like you prefer the autopilot. Can you explain why please?
@artsmith103
@artsmith103 3 күн бұрын
Maybe they're back on the water. I'll tell you how they answered this earlier. Their solar is working well after the refit and inspite of the weather they have plenty of amp-hrs. Such short legs they prefer the auto pilot vs windvane. Motoring in and out of anchorages so often also adds amp-hrs via the alternator. 1hr of motoring provides elec for about 6hrs of cruising. They plan to use the windvane when they get back to more open water longer passages.
