Vic OffRoad Fieryred winch
When you have a big heavy 4wd you need a big strong winch to match it. This is why we went with the Fieryred 1300Lbs winch from Vic offroad.
Built strong with a 6 hp motor that is well and truly strong enough to pull the big heavy Patrol. It has a 265:1 gear ratio via 3 stage planetary gears. The breaking is also strong enough to hold the Patrol.
It comes with 26m of 9.5mm thick dyneema winch rope, this also has a steel eyelet for strength at the hook. It has an easily activated flip clutch to free spool rope off the drum.
Sealed control box that sits above the drum has both the option for weird or wireless control. The remote has a comfortable grip with an easy operated thumb switch. Also the control has a built in led light.
The Fieryred winch also looks awesome. All black, with grey rope cast drum connecting rod with logo and the control box mounted up on top with a sturdy bracket.
This isn’t the most expensive winch on the market but it definitely represents good value for money at around the $500 mark. I definitely think they are worth considering.

Great review mate, I went down to vic off-road on Thursday to have a look t this one and was very impressed. I am the same as you, it will only be there for occasional stuff ups by the steering wheel attendant. Looks like I’m going back to get one on Monday and will do a review on my channel when it’s installed. BTW great fit in the ORA bar as well

Soft shackle on a winch is another piece in chain that can fail or to get out for a recovery. Prefer hook straight onto tree trunk protector or winch extension strap. You still have a metal object on the end of your winch rope so the only benefit I see with your setup is it will spool back flush on fairlead and sit pretty. I do like the idea of soft shackle when attaching something to hitch, especially if i'm at the other end getting snatched.

The flat link is definitely more a cosmetic thing. It does create a closed system and make securing a strap more guaranteed

Can the control box be removed from the top of the winch and relocated to a higher location.

It can be you can unbolt and Mount where ever you would like. I have heaps of space where the winch mounted so I just left it

I see you have replaced the front springs. What brand did you go for? Who fitted them? Do you still run the HBMC? A video on that would be really good.

Hey mate, the HBMC was resprung around 60mm lift on Dobinsons coils. A full suspension video will happen once I can get out and film again

The ease of operation beats my set up any day. I have Dash bar with Runwa winch. Have to bend number plate and it is still extremely difficult for even a thin hand to access to turn the knob on winch to reel out.

You don’t need a hook at all if you use soft shackles.

I agree but you need something so your rope sits again the fairlead when not in use.

@@HappyGoTravel works really well, plenty of grunt, but winch in wireless has stopped 🤬. But all functions still work when operated with the cable.

I’ve used it a handful of times now and it’s good. Free spools perfect, Plenty of pulling power for the big girl. For the price you can’t go wrong ✌️

@@HappyGoTravel Have you put an amp clap on it and see what the max amps draw is. Trying to work it all out so i can see what it needs to run the unit well. What the correct size wiring and fusing should be.

@@HappyGoTravel your the only one in Australia that has reviewed and tested on line that I can find. That test looked good pull the big girl over that step. I wouldn't use it very often hence why I was looking at the unti. People in the US seem to like it as well.

@@sdrhodes82 it’s definitely perfect for that use. I find I don’t need a winch very often but when I do I’ve generally done something stupid and put myself between a rock and a hard place. I honestly think for the price vs quality you can’t go wrong

How do you find the Kumho muds ?

They ok. They are a very aggressive muddy so they have noise etc. I don’t think they are the best option, but they were available when I needed tyres that was the main reason I went with them
