FIFA 17 had the best gameplay for years, the first time I've genuinely enjoyed playing FIFA for many years. FIFA 18 has somehow managed to take several steps backwards gameplay wise, it's just dreadful. Great improvements to a number of gamemodes were more than welcome, but the gameplay is bizarrely bad.

To make the game a bit faster and smoother go to settings in FIFA and move up the sprint speed, ball speed and shot speed to a 70..the game will feel smoother and much faster than the standard default settings which everyone complains about being so slow.

The quick subs feature is half baked. Substitutions are based on a variety of factors that you can't predetermine before the game starts. Better implementation would have been to press RT that brings up a menu that you can scroll through to find the player you want to sub out and the one you want to sub in.

In comparison to fifa 17, this game is pretty similar, however it is still good and enjoyable at least the career mode (im not a fut player) They added some cool things to career mode and I would say that it is enough to kick master league's ass once again.

RESIDENT93 CL you know why it doesn't kick master leagues ass ? Not because master league is some immersive experience but because the offline gameplay in Pes is better. The CPU is more creative and teams feel different. Barca plays like Barca. Dortmund pressures and abuses aubemayang. In FIFA the CPU gets boring to play because the teams play the same, players feel the same. When it comes to single player the level of AI is crucial and Pes is simply better in this regard. That's not even mentioning the fact that Pes scans faces from all over the world and continues to update them through the year. There's a new dlc coming out next month that will update a shit ton of faces. World class players are scanned while in FIFA players like Saul, yannick, Andre silva, asensio, casemiro, trapp, lemar , etc are not scanned. Pes scans every single top player and hot prospects. And will continue to update them in the coming months. You want a Julian Brandt scanned? You got it. You want a pulisic scanned ? Done. Dembele ? Done. Good luck getting that in FIFA. FIFA may have the little transfer cut scenes but Pes has the better AI/CPU playing style and has the much better faces. Don't forget the champions league and Europa league licenses. The real faces and fun AI keeps the master league fun while these FIFA cutscenes will get stale after a season. & oh yea Pes has their own cutscenes like Ballon d'Or, uefa player of the year, locker room scenes before a derby and you get to create your managers own appearance instead of choosing from 10 options that FIFA gives you . Point proven ?

FIFA has always been years! Ahead of PES anyway. PES gameplay feels like PS2 because Konami are so focused on the past, the grass in the stadium looks unrealistic, the presentation is lacking, still stuck with a number of unlicensed teams in 2017!, the robotic animations are still present and the terrible online servers. FIFA feels like you're playing the official Football game. PES is basically a low budget FIFA rip off.

Can they explain the difference between PES's gameplay and FIFA's gameplay in depth? The player movement seems to have been a major factor in FIFA's lukewarm reception. While explaining the difficulties in the first part of the review, I'd love to see a video of them discussing the two games differences and what PES is doing better; a case by case scenario of different types of passes, and instances of player movement would be interesting to see in a side-by-side video comparison. Interesting how both of EA's sports games, FIFA and NBA Live haven't been reviewed as highly as their competitors's. FIFA has such nice bells and whistles, but they have to sort out their gameplay mechanics. There has to be weight to each pass, sprint can't be abused to overcome bad decisions too frequently, and player mechanics have to be balanced so they're not switching directions in an unrealistic fashion, but still feel responsive to how the player is moving their controller.

Sports games to me should seek to replicate the real thing. & to the original poster, stamina is "horrendous" because you're used to being able to hold the sprint button non stop like in FIFA. You cannot run non stop in real life. In Pes you have to use the sprint button smartly . If you play it like FIFA your players are burnt by halftime, as they should be

Having had my EA access 10 hours now I'll say this, FIFA is pretty similar every year but for me the whole experience is what sells it. The menus, the career mode, the presentation. I know it's superficial but I don't mind if the gameplay isn't quite as good as PES because, to me, the whole FIFA experience makes it feel more real. Also there is one more important career mode change in transfers which is that you can finally split wages when loaning a player. I like to do career modes with lower league clubs and when I was Oxford last season trying to loan PL players was a no go because you had to pay like 100% of a 19 year olds 30k wages, with the ability to split the wages it works much better

whenever i get a new fifa i set the game mode to slow,adjust a few sliders for both user and ai. for example i set the keepers to 100,set shot power and pass power to 40 (so balls dont zip about like bullets),set first touch abilities to 40 cos even professionals have random bad touches and set the sprint speed to 45 so that at top speed it doesnt look unrealistic. all in all it makes for a much better experience than the default settings. doing this plus fifa licencing would always make me choose fifa over pes. just my personal opinion. also manual passing makes it less like pinball to feet

I was really disappointed by FIFA 17 but hearing that offense is op again makes me want to try this game, Im just curious if you can play practice matches and quick online matches (not friendly seasons) like in FIFA 14 because in seasons they always match you up with someone who has high level dnf when you start out in div 10 and I cant stand the lag. Also, unless you're constantly holding sprint through out of play, there's no way to accidentally trigger it cause there's a timer for it as well. FIFA 10- A challenging and satisfying game. Fantastic Career Mode. FIFA 11- A technical advancement of FIFA 10. Better passing and defending but difficult to score goals still. FIFA 12- Arguably still the best one. Passing and attacking were very satisfying and the gameplay was exciting and more varied than it ever had been or ever was to become. So good that I still play it sometimes. FIFA 13- A decent game with crisp passing but poor shooting and bullshit defending at times. The start of the Scripting Age. FIFA 14- A slow and ponderous game but a satisfying challenge, although slightly boring at times. FIFA 15- Faster passing but arguably the most broken and outright awful FIFA by quite a mile. Scripting, horrible referees, players turning and running like drunk elephants, etc. FIFA 16- A massive improvement but the scripting and boring gameplay still remained despite the improved graphics and far more realistic gameplay. FIFA 17- Dreadful. The broken scripting and soul- destroying one dimensional gameplay was so bad I stopped playing by April. FIFA 18- A considerable improvement on FIFA 17. Passing is crisper and responses are more consistent but gameplay still lacks variety and defending is atrocious at times. Shooting is far more difficult but also far more aesthetically pleasing than in previous editions.

Trust me when I say that I'd love to make the switch to PES, but I just like FIFA's gameplay a lot more. I don't like playing against the AI, but when I played FIFA or PES online or versus friends, I prefer FIFA's gameplay. It feels like the ball is more loose. With PES, when you attempt a through ball it seems like it's delivered on a string to the receiver, even when I read the lanes and should be in position to intercept, it doesn't let me control my player in a way to do that.

You can't really go wrong either way. If you want better, more fluid gameplay, get PES and download the option file so you get all the licensed clubs. If you want the immersion, get FIFA. Both are great this year, imo.

IMO PES is incredible, and leaves me doubting Fifa.

I glad he said something about the fluidness of the game. It's completely too slow and turning is still bad and players feel like their going through sand!! How come PES 18 feels way more fluid.

I just got PES 2018 and I'm loving it!! I will download the option soon and it will be the most complete football game. Having said that I hope Fifa improves their quality because having competition is important.

I never got used to the change from FIFA 16 to 17. And now, I was even more stupid by buying FIFA 18 having a small yet naive hope that things would've changed. FIFA, it has been a pleasure playing with you (up until FIFA 16) but I'm never buying you again....

The real thing that matters is what the game looks like in a few months, FIFA 17 changed alot with patches as do all of them, the big problem with this game is the apparent amount of big plays and easy build up, guaranteed these things will be nerfd early on, but hey they could change it for the worse, we will see, im still not ready to go to PES yet lol

The fact that they say pro clubs barely got any changes is stupid. It literally turned up completely. Allowing for set losdouts for different play styles, team organizations added for clubs, home and away kits available with more options than last year, a new level up and will system. Did they even play the game? Good God your review was worse than trying to see Liverpool play

Minor changes to pro clubs? What a dim wit. The changes to pro clubs are huge in terms of menus and presentation. It looks better, you get three presets for positions, the menu for actually finding matches is better and fluid, overall it's change drastically. This was just a way to bag on FIFA for being better rated the past few years.

I think it's cool what ea is doing with fifa. They're taking it nice and slow if they go too fast with making a new game every year soon they won't have anything to improve on. So on the future we probably will have what everyone wants.
