Do you recommend buying a couple sets of these and plug them all in a mixer to capture sound from each actor in a film scene?
@TobiasHolenstein5 жыл бұрын
For a film scene I'm guessing you would be using the lav mics right? Since I assume you wouldn't want the headset mics to be visable. In my opinion I don't think the quality of these lav mics would be good enough for a film scene. You may want to look into some higher quality lav mics for that. I think the headset mic sounds good, but it would be visible on the actors faces.

If it's indoor filming, you could have the K038, dual wireless system instead.

Great review! 3:22 you sound pissed like I was LOL Luckily my dad had some Triple A's at his house. I appreciate them sending me this, but it doesn't sound good at all and I had to see if maybe I was doing something wrong. There is way too much background noise and it sounds like I'm speaking inside of a tin can. Add to that, not only do you need batteries, but you have to have both Double A and Triple A? Meh. Nobody uses battery's anymore haha. Oh well. I actually could have used this for my KZbin reviews but I can't in good conscience. To be fair, it's only what, like $38 but a Snowball sounds much better even though that's obviously not lavalier. I noticed that you have like no background noise. Another fella asked about that and FIFINE responded about volume. I turned my cam volume down on my Nikon D3200 and it does help, but I'm having to boost gain inside Premiere Pro. What kind of camera do you have? I can't think of anything else that it would be but yours sounds a heck of a lot better than mine. Please let me know!!
@TobiasHolenstein4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Haha 😂I didn't mean to sound pissed lol. The camera I use is a Nikon D5300 and I usually also have to boost the gain in Premiere Pro as well. I think that's pretty normal

I wonder if the audio would’ve sounded better if you used an audio interface instead of the mic in on the camera
@TobiasHolenstein4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gavin, good point. I'll have to give that a try and run it through my interface, but I honestly think that it is the mic itself. I think the headset mic sounds better, because it was positioned right in front of my mouth. I feel like they just used the same exact mic for the lav mic as the headset. When in reality I think the lav mic should be a condenser, more sensitive to the higher frequencies, to compensate for the lower placement of the mic
@TexCynRVLife5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. This helps. I need a wireless lavalier mic. I think I will go for a better quality one.

Would you recommend the Rode mic over the TZ Stellar X2? I am looking for one mic for my home studio. It caught my eye but wanted to hear someone else's opinion.
@TobiasHolenstein5 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, I've personally never tried either of those microphones. As for the Rode mic, are you considering the NT1? I've watched some reviews and I think the Rode mic is pretty nice, however, I'm personally more curious about the X2. The X2 is pretty impressive in my opinion and are less expensive than the Rode mic.

Tobias, did you do ANY post processing of the audio before uploading it here to KZbin? Every other review I see of these units on KZbin and elsewhere all show hiss or buzz in the background that varies from low to very noticeable, while your sound was pristine. It's important to know the answer to this before making any decisions. Thanks!
@TobiasHolenstein5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jerry, this review is with no post processing at all. I can hear a little hiss in the background of my audio also, but it's not too bad
@FIFINE5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jerry, in order to have the clearest audio from lav mic we do actually calibrate mic to be sensitive. The signal comes out a bit hot, that's why there's hissing you can hear. But the reason why you hear different amount of hissing is because of adjustment of the volume. It also prove that you can get as less noise as possible once you get the volume right (the lower the better).

What kind of camera are you using? My camera doesn't have mic input. I want to use it for an interview with another person, can I pair 2 microphones on one receiver?
@TobiasHolenstein5 жыл бұрын
I'm using a Nikon D5300. The receiver only has an input for one mic. You might be able to plug two mics in if you are able to find some kind of splitter, but this mic setup is probably best for just one person speaking. Personally if I was recording an interview with 2 mics, I would want to probably record the audio separately onto my computer or another device onto 2 separate channels so I can adjust the levels of each voice.

@TobiasHolenstein4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I personally haven't fully depleted a set of batteries with this mic system, but I have used this system a good 1.5-2 hours, more or less straight and the batteries did not die on me. Also, if you use high quality batteries, you will probably get more time out of them.

It depends on the capacity of the batteries you use. With the normal batteries we use, the mic and receiver can last for at least 4 hours of consecutive use.

I am French, your first pronociation of "Lavallière" was Ok -for a French. Maybe there is a local (American?) way to say it still, ..Otherwise thanks for your work. Just what I need as a beginner in the world of Lavallière and Headset microphones. I think the first lavallière sucks, compared to your camera microphone, quite clearer. The second, the headset is quite OK. ALso I rely to that as a lecture sonorizer, I am not sure for music. Probably Ok I would say. I wonder about the confort, too. It seems Lavallière has tendency to fall down. I saw it many times. In particular with old orators -somewhat absent-minded (like me ! :))
