This was when they tried to copy TG. Deliberately shaky camera work, fake car horns and engine sounds, unnecessary attempt at drama with some invented time constant. I'm glad they stop doing this and created their own style.

I know the feeling of the torture sitting behind 18 wheelers passing one another brings. I drove over 2,200 miles in about 5 days when I was traveling across the USA to get to my new job, and they did that basically the whole way.

The main reason why I watch Fifth Gear over Top Gear is for the informative setup. Top Gear always made it drama filled. While I was a child and up until High School, it was cool. But now, I like the information about cars without the need for drama. It would have better to see you get there early and have a nice bite to eat at a good restaurant in Valencia. Combining good cars and good food would be perfect.

Driving a 1 litre Ford Fiesta hard only could return 22.1mpg of around the same year back then when this was recorded so 18 isn't bad from this M5

I know what you mean..every time I take drive in my E63 M6..I feel the desire to drive it more often..

If i was doing that Challenge i would use a 2015 Passat B8 with 280hp. Even when driving reltively Quickly 600km-700km with one tank of Fuel. No need to stop all The Time

What shite if they has used a normal diesel car say Passat estates c4 coupe etc he would have filled up once, got no speeding ticket and got there earlier by not having 4 or 5 fuel stops, plus valancia has an airport fed ex would have done it for 50 dollars

Hot hatches pushing 500. I suppose that is what hot hatch drivers think. And why they are so annoyed with BMW M drivers. He's wrong about the 207mph it isn't that fast, but it is significantly faster than the official numbers. He's right about its ruthless efficiency, its thirst and it making other cars seem a bit crap.

​@@matts.996 But that is what everybody calls it. Critics love to disagree about what is ART and whether SMG is any good. You can call it what you like but it's a bit like going up to Picasso and saying that ain't the Mona Lisa. It is a manual with a Sequential Shifting function and that is a big mouthful in German with unfortunate abbreviation and I'm glad that it has synchromesh so I do understand your point.

Funny the number of people finding issue with the old Fifth Gear format, because it's a direct copy of their beloved 'old' Top Gear. It just proves that the format is pretty rubbish. People only put up with it because of the Clarkson personality cult.

Times have changed now my Grandads 435d does it in 4.7 seconds and I’m sure the outgoing 540d is as quick.
