Hello, I Acquired Chincoteague variant Celeste a few years ago from Big Bill in Lancaster Pennsylvania, and I had planted the fig tree in the ground against a south facing wall Zone 6A Central Mass. I have to tell you, everything you have stated is so true. I bit bigger than the regular celeste, tastier, redder and with a unique and sublime taste so delicious. It has become one of my favorite all around tasting fig from my 20 varieties. My family and I have gorged on them and even have enough to make 3 quarts of home-made fig preserves which are outstanding. I want to thank you for your recommendation on this wonderful strain of celeste and will keep this tree in my collection without a doubt. Thanks again!!! Best Wishes to you and yours.

Hello I actually tie up the branches together with rope, I cut only one side of roots and bend the tree over about 1 foot from ground, tie to stake. Cover tree especially top of tree where most buds exist, with burlap, I also use paper lawn bags filled with dry leaves and pile them all around tree, and cover all with thick tarps. I suse a 2 inch PVC for ventilation. I had purchased this tree a couple years ago at Off the beaten path nursery. From Big Bill @@lindaberri593

My 4 Celeste trees have both triangle or shield shaped leaves and ones with 5 long narrow fingers. There`s no telling what I have. They were too young to fruit this year. I`m gonna try extra hard to protect them from freezes to find out what I actually got. I`ve only had one ripe Brown Turkey so far and though the figs look way different than what we had in Louisiana when I was young they taste the same...very sweet and figgy. Our figs looked like your Celeste...small, brown fruits with little cracks in the skin.

What treats you have in store for yourselves! Loved looking at all the trees you selected! My most favorite was seeing the Peter's Honey! They are Gynormous!! I must have missed the "Spectacular" video, so that's next up to watch!! Again, thanks for sharing!

Wonder, whether you grow Campaniére? That is perfect variety for your climate. Exclusive flavour and super cold hardy. You should get that one.

Hi! I do not grow it right now. It's not likely that I will because I have a friend that has had mixed results with it in the ground. He's in 7-A, too. I've been concentrating more and more on my in ground fig collection, as container growing requires such a great deal more work, with far less production, and with generally less flavor. I haven't given up on it yet. I have a properly in 7-B, too. Perhaps it will be more suitable there someday if I ever decide to add it to my in ground fig collection. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

Is there any reason why you don't bird scare tape to keep the birds away from these?

Hi there!!! I have two main locations. At one location the birds are ferocious and unrelenting! Nothing will stop them, but using net's has given me fair results. At the other location, in N.J., I simply don't have a difficult time with birds. I've used decoy also, and net's lightly draped over my fig trees, and it has prevented the birds from doing almost any damage. I've never used the tape and I'll give it a try next year. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

HI there! I don't know why except to advise you to be patient. Growing figs requires discipline and patience. Sometimes fig trees don't bare fruit for several years. This is especially true of certain varieties. I've often thought, wow, wouldn't it be great if fig trees produced fruit like tomato plants! Sadly, when it comes to fruiting, figs are figs, and tomatoes are tomatoes! Lol! Be patient, and I'm sure that your day will come. Regards from Lou Monti

Hi! This is a very extensive subject and I do discuss this topic in many of my videos. However, for now, you might want to start with container growing several varieties that are well known for their esrly performance in cold zones. I have a variety of videos on that subject and you are most certainly welcome to watch them! Thanks for watching!!! Lou Monti
