The Ronde De Bordeaux finger pattern leaves are so unique, very pretty and easy to recognize. Actually, it's the only Fig tree I can recognize. Love how healthy and promising your young trees and cutting gardens are coming along. Sorry to see all of those persimmons fruit go, but I agree, thinking of the health of the tree comes first and foremost! Thanks for sharing your lovely day with us all...very refreshing!!! Till next time!

I had some opposite experience with Pastiliere. It dropped fruits and didn't grow much, but when I put it in ground, it was all of a sudden super happy and grow vigorously and ripened every single fruit it put out.

Nice video as usual.... one idea for a video. You are always mentioning your son and how he takes care of and eats your figs when you are gone. You should do a video about him and call it "how to raise a figaholic son," similar to what your family did with you. 🎉

Oh the pain I’m feeling when you cut the persimmon tree 😢 I wonder if some of the branches can be used to graft?

What's your location and garden zone? I've got 9 potted figs, 1st year, and am air layering a few. I'm trying to figure out if I can successfully plant figs in the ground, zone 8a Central Arkansas. Advice and info appreciated.

@C3Voyage Hi there! Yes, you certainly can grow Figs in the ground in your location. Good luck, Lou Monti

I have a 2yo, maybe 5' tall, American persimmon that I'd like to graft on a larger variety. What's your suggestion for ease and success? thanks

Lou, Hello from South Florida! What are some great ones that you would recommend for down here?
@onortosu2 ай бұрын
Go with one or more of LSU Purple, Smith, Pastilliere (version from Raintree Nursery), JFE Black Madira Not (from Off the Beaten Path), CLBC, a Mt. Etna (RLBV, Malta Black, Takoma Violet, etc.), an Adriatic (WM#1, Adriatic JH, etc.), Black Celeste, Moro de Caneva.

My 2nd year Figoin is dropping all the fruit it set. It isn't happy, working on figuring out why. It's painful to watch
@miknrache2 ай бұрын
So you could not have removed the fruit on the persimmon instead of the limb. That would have taken the weight off. Am I wrong?
@loumonti102 ай бұрын
@miknrache Hi there! No, you aren't wrong. Picking the fruit off the branch would lighten it, but it wouldn't have solved the problem permanently. It was a difficult decision, but I felt strongly that it had to be done sooner or later. Incidentally, the tree is doing fine and thank you for your comment and concern! Lou Monti

Why don’t you make a (X ) leg to support it ?
@loumonti102 ай бұрын
@ThaiTong-xy1ok That's an excellent idea, and I appreciate your input very much. Unfortunately, I simply don't have much time to spare, and it would have resulted in more difficulties cutting the grass. Still, your suggestion was a good one, in deed! I did manage to tie and save the second branch of concern in the video. Therefore, I kind of feel like it was an acceptable compromise. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

Is pastiliere the same as rouge de bordouex
@loumonti102 ай бұрын
@vtec18c Hi there! No. They are certainly very similar to one another, but they do have some rather well established differences. I have never grown Rouge, but from the information that I've been able to gather over the years, and from my friend Daniel Yakir, apparently, Rouge is a bit more of a sugary fig, and it has a deeper purple color than Pastiliere. They are on record of having different countries of origin as well, but personally, I wouldn't hold that point to havinging much significance. I believe that Rouge is considered to be a French fig and Pastiliere of Italian origin. I'm not certain, but that's my recollection. Regards from Lou Monti
