Thanks Harvey! I can't believe that your trees are ahead of mine in going dormant. It's been a weird weather year. I can't wait for your sale and really appreciate the update.

We grow in USDA 7A. I saw about four different cold hardy varieties on your website. Do you know which one is the most cold-hearty by chance? Hopefully one that also has a redder pulp

When will you start offering worldwide postal services for fig cuttings? I’m from India, where we have a limited variety of figs available, and I’m eager to explore more.
@FigaholicsАй бұрын
We will not offer such a service but maybe someone who buys our farm may decide to do so. We are trying to find ways to work less, not more, and doing international shipping, dealing with customs regulations, etc. creates a lot more work when we are already working as hard as we possibly can. However, we do have some international customers who have continued to order from us and use a mail forwarding service located in the U.S. as their shipping address. They don't discuss this with us but we notice this because of the international phone numbers showing up on their payments. I assume it works okay for them. We only need to follow U.S. laws and regulations with these transactions so no additional work is involved for us.

Harvey, Here in the east, mine have been dormant for a few weeks now. What chestnuts do you grow? I have a few real American Chestnut seedlings that i started from seeds this past season. Happy Thanksgiving

We grow a few different named Italian marroni types which appear to be synonyms.

Can I ask what spacing you use for your fig orchard? I was thinking of doing 15ft spacing between trees, with 20ft spacing between rows. I don't have any experience with figs though, so I'm not sure what the best practice is.
@FigaholicsАй бұрын
16 feet between trees in each row and 20 feet between rows. In our climates, I probably wish I had used 20 x 24 as spacing is pretty tight now after 12 years or so.

Thank you, friend! I lost my Tashkent and Grosse Monstrueux cutting last year (from you). If you are taking suggestions on trees to offer 😉

We no longer propagate fig trees for sale and focus our efforts on fig cuttings. That is as much work as we can handle.

Did I hear right! You selling the farm?
@FigaholicsАй бұрын
We began efforts to sell our farm in December 2023 so that both my wife and I (in our late 60s) can retire and spend more time traveling, particularly to Madeira, Portugal where we purchased a second home which is located across the street from where my grandmother grew up. Our farm consists of figs grown for fruit and cuttings, chestnuts, yangmei (Myrica rubra) and some ground rented out and planted to alfalfa. We have enjoyed great success and it is time to let someone else continue what we have begun.
