I love the chemistry between all the characters. They each bring a different angle and sense of humor that blend so well together to make this journey enjoyable. This was a great move after Heroes and Halfwits discontinued.

The learning curve flattens off quite fast, in my opinion. At least on the "how to" bit. You should just watch Critical Role. You'll learn the basics and have a blast while doing so.

It is not that bad if you join an experienced and friendly group. There is a lot of little details to learn, but the basics are pretty easy and cover most of the game. A good dungeon master will help you get up to speed without too much pressure because literally everybody had to go through the awkwardness of learning to play the game, and there's no point in making it hard: That just turns away new players and potential friends!

Tbh the most complicated part of D&D is making the character sheet. Other than that, you roll the the dice, add the number, and hope it's high enough to do the crazy shenanigan you want to do
