I’m a 3D collector and finally upgraded my 1080/3D projector after 12 years to 4K/3D this week and the 4K HDR is literally mind blowing. I had no idea how good it was… so I wont have FOMO.. more like I just NEED EVERY AWESOME 4K! lol. It also improves the 3D viewing which totally caught me off guard. I need to catch up… I only have 12 4K right now.

The problem I have is, I'm playing catch up. Just got my 4K player and I've started trying to get all the movies I want and come to find out, some are already out of print. So, I watch eBay to try and snag a copy as affordably as I can. I've already dropped $100 10 days into the new year with Amazon's 3 for $33. I just can't pass up a movie on my list that's historically $20+ when its on sale. My wallet is doomed.

If I have the dvd and I just watched it..I’m totally fine with that till I find it at the thrift store or pawnshop for couple dollars Blu-ray(4k).

FOMO defeated me in 2024, but this year I’m fighting back dammit! 😂 I used to have a “4K or bust” mentality but recently I’ve bought a lot more standard blu rays. I rarely pay more than 5 to 10 dollars for used copies. As for try before you buy, I do that sometimes but the quality is usually so bad that it affects my enjoyment. I’ve also spent more time upgrading and tweaking my home theater, which has given me incentive to dive back into the movies I already own and enjoy them in a new way. Love the channel, hope we have a great 2025!

Agree with all of your points. FOMO in particular seems really bad here for us collectors in the UK, many companies only seem to do limited edition steelbooks or collectors versions. For instance I’ve preordered the Tarantino Steelbooks for Kill Bill & Jackie Brown because I don’t want to miss out on these as they’ll probably be the only version we get because it’s the exact same thing Lionsgate did a few years ago with Reservoir Dogs (only giving it a limited edition steelbook that’s sold out now).

I paid the original ridiculous price of $55 for preorder of Alien:Romulus Steelbook, now it’s around $47. If I just bought the regular 4k release, I basically paid $25 extra just for the steelbook. I agree with you on the “websites” to watch movies, I want to know Im going to enjoy the film before investing. We have to be smarter with our purchases in this economy. Gotta stretch the dollar!

For me, the FOMO is real. I missed out on the steelbook of Black Widow. I missed out on the Conan 4K set. I missed out on the Lord of the Rings 4K steelbook set. I'm sure there's lots of others. I'm trying not to buy something unless I really, really love the movie, but it's tough because of FOMO. I haven't bought the Seinfeld or Friends 4K sets yet, and I have a feeling if I wait much longer I'll miss out. The FOMO is so hard to keep under wraps!

I love Criterion titles; however, I find many of these movies on Turner Classic Movies channel and record them on my DVR for viewing before I pull the trigger during the July & November sale. I stopped blind buying and now more selective.

Fomo gets me purely based on packaging if I like the movie. If it's a blind buy, I only watch the trailer 99% of the time I'm not disappointed. That is the problem if I watch it on dvd, I have put off getting the blu-ray and then it was oop.

The fomo got me with D.A.R.Y.L. and the Hitcher. And as of now both LE titles are still available. So yea going to probably watch a lot of things if im not too familiar with it. Also another personal rule, "how many times did i watch this in the last 10 years?" If the answer is zero then maybe i dont need it as bad as i think.

Unlike VS, Arrow doesn’t announce their print run. Smart. When they see something selling like a mothafucka they can discreetly print more. Then something like Friday the 13th goes out for a short time but then is back and plentiful

I refuse to feed into fomo with these companies. Like these 50$ steelbooks. I know people dropped big money on Deadpool steelbook bc how quickly everywhere was going in and oos…now I can get it on eBay from retailers for 34$ If a boutique releases something I’m interested in I’ll write it down and wait for a sale if the slip,steelbook, collectors addition is still available? Great if not? Ok okay with that bc I’m buying it for the film and special features. I appreciate these types of videos so people can be like it’s okay if I don’t spend 80$ on trick or treat

I just wanted to add this: FOMO is a collector's disease, not a cinephile's disease. You can't have FOMO over a movie you have never seen before and you can't have FOMO over a new physical release of a movie you love while already owning several (previously released) physical copies of it. I've been a film geek for over 40 years now, and a movie collector for at least 3 decades. I NEVER experienced FOMO. Never! Agreeing with a lot of the stuff you're saying here in this video but to be honest; you're kinda stating the obvious. You should always watch a movie first, before blind buying some expensive physical media set. The video rental culture from my days has been replaced by a system of buying the most expensive high quality physical releases for a FIRST time watch in this era. Which is insane! I like you videos by the way but in this case I don't know if you're the ideal spokesperson; you also bought a $200 NeverEnding Story set recently after not having seen the movie for 25 years! 😇 I do agree with your message of course. be careful and responsible in these expensive days!

I 100% agree, fomo is stupid, I blame it more on social media & KZbin culture. & im sadly part of it, so I make these kinda video here & there to also hold myself accountable. I’m definitely not trying to be a spokesperson for anything, I also know there are so many collectors out there who havnt been collecting for 20+ years like me or 30+ as yourself. A lot have just starting & are buying everything they see. & the $200 Neverending Story 😂 that is a rare case of unique packaging like I’ve never seen before. It’s a stupid purchase haha but I’ve also bought $80 bluray imports for movies that never came to the US on that format.

Watching before buying doesnt make any sense to me personally. I buy stuff in the best possible version, if availabe 4k, to experience a movie in the best possible way. I want to see it also in the best possible way even if i dont know the movie. Streaming quality sucks, it cant be compared to physical. But i also have a good sense if i might like something before really watching. Great labels also help, where you know their curation fits your taste.
