Thank you for checking out my video! If you like what I do and would like to support me to do more of it, and you have some spare cash, consider donating on Ko-fi (which will also get you access to my Discord server): ko-fi.com/frum... When Maximilian Dood argued that beginners should focus on games with lots of other beginners, I didn’t really agree - but a comment on that video made me realise that the argument made a lot more sense when I thought about casuals instead of beginners. In this video I examine the differences, in my mind, between a fighting game beginner and a fighting game casual, before categorising some games into whether I think they are best for beginners, casuals, or both.

02:38 games for beginners
04:02 games for casuals
04:47 games for beginners AND casuals

i think it’s insane to say any game is “beyond the point of getting into” fucking ridiculous and harmful thing to put into the fgc

Yeeaaah I think if you have a big platform, saying stuff like that can become a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. And if that’s the game you have your heart set on, it just sucks to hear. Especially if it’s not true!

As a casual I've been having some good matches on T7. In games like DBFZ, Granblue or DnF I can't get anywhere without grinding combos in the lab and I hate that, but in T7 I found plenty of other casuals.

My first fighting game was STRIVE, and it's simplicity did give me a nice balance of a good entry-level game with some healthy amount of depth to sink my teeth into. I've since become more enamoured with the mechanics of Blazblue. In my opinion, Finding a more entry-level game would be better in the long-term for beginners so they don't get overwhelmed with too much from their first game. However, no one should gatekeep themselves from more complex games or force themselves to start with something on the same level as Footsies or Fantasy Strike. Whether beginner or casual, it's your journey, start wherever you feel most comfortable.

Solid video as usual! Beginner and causal get used so interchangeably and it’s much better when a clear definition exists. To be fair, someone can hop in anywhere and find what they like cuz they all have so much to offer. SF6 and Tekken 8 are definitely holding the reigns of supremacy. GGST is good fun that acts as a great intro beyond the world of classic fighters. Can’t wait for your next upload!

Thank you! Definitely, there’s so many great fighting games out at the moment. The best thing would be to have a friend who has every game so you can try them without paying before you find the one you like the most

Imo the DOA series is one of, if not the best example of a casual/beginner friendly game while still having a lot of depth for those who want to stick with it. It's easy to pick up with a free-to-play version, controls are easy to learn, it has flashy stage interactions, lots of costumes to unlock (or buy 😶), and if you're scared to go online, even turning off your brain and mashing against CPUs is fun since if you choose random in VS mode, it will randomize the character every match. Online population varies based on game/platform/time, but you can usually find at least a few lobbies or people in ranked at most hours-and DOA5/6 allow you to play certain offline modes while searching for a match, which is something more games should do. ...alright shilling session over for now lol

I get what your saying but as someone who used to be a beginner, I think that games that require me to interact with people outside of the the game are the reason as to why I chose not to play them at the time, I wouldn’t say that it’s a lack of effort of wanting to learn as I played ggst when it dropped and spent actual effort to learning the game but I would not have played sf3 when I started playing fighting games as there is no good way for what i deem as a beginner to get into the fgc

I dont mind get informed about mechanics n watching vids like this, I even bought samsho, but ever since i did it hell nah no way in buyin a dead game again. Im lazy n with lil very lil time to dedicate to gaming, the idea of just jumpin online n finding someone near my skill level simply feels good altho im definitely getting informed about various things, even advanced ones, before buyin the game. Theory n practice r 2 different things man

Hey that’s a good point. For some people that element is super important even if they do want to put an effort into learning the game. That’s what the third category of games in the video is great for I guess!

imo tekken is the best FG for casuals because the huge movelists and simple inputs! you can mash every single buttons and see cool things happen on the screen. its the only fg that i can play with my little sister

Have you guys played Soul Calibur? Feels very similar to Tekken but I'd say it's even more casual friendly, doesn't have as many characters though.

If you "just need to put a bit of effort in", youre not a beginner lol
@frumiousgaming
@frumiousgaming 6 ай бұрын
I don’t mean you just need to put a bit of effort in to get good at the game. I mean that for a game without a big online player base, you can still find people to play with if you put a bit of effort in (joining some discords, persuading your friends to play with you, etc)
