Two things. Most people play Granblue on their phones like a traditional gacha game, not their browsers. Second, you probably should catch up on JoJo at some point. Right now's a good time since it seems like it's going to be a while before Part 7 gets the animated treatment because it's focused on a horse race, and HORSES ARE REALLY HARD TO ANIMATE CONVINCINGLY WITHOUT CGI.

Street Fighter 6 was the only new fighting game I got in 2023 and I still play it. SF6 is a blast! This is the most I've played Street Fighter in a while.

Street Fighter 6 is really bad though and Capcom are predators and anti consumer. They are charging $8 for character costume cosmetics that just change your characters appearance! That's way to expensive and predatory. Don't forget all the battle passes and TMNT $15 Nickelodeon collaboration avatar costumes that are $60 for all four which is bad! Capcom and Nickelodeon working together to charge $15 for this licenced collaboration! Don't buy Street Fighter 6 because it has paid dlc for a fully priced game!

For me nothing tops the feeling of when I woke up on the first day of Evo, and turned on the stream just in time to see Kamone say "roll the clip" on the Uni 2 trailer. UNICLR was the game that got me into actually playing fighting games at the start of the pandemic before Strive, and I've been playing it steadily ever since, and the genuine catharsis of actually seeing the trailer for real was huge, and I absolutely can't wait to start playing the game in a few days!

That was probably the best description of Multiversus and how the behind the scenes went down that I’ve seen. I agree, WB really worked these devs a little hard, it’s even more evident when they added Black Adam to the game to cross promote for his film. Though, despite everything that happened to it…I am still very excited for it to return because I enjoyed playing it so much (multiplayer wise, single player wise nah). I hope for the absolute best for the game because just like the Nick Brawl devs, they really made a Smash like that feels like it could stand out from the rest 🙏

I think a better way to handle a rhythm fighting game would be something along the lines of Hi-Fi Rush, where you have full control of your character but need to sync up your actions to a beat.

I have a WILD idea for doing it, but oh boi, it sure is hard to pull off. Long story short, each character has its own there, both themes play at the same time, and you need to sinc defensive actions to your theme and offensive actions to the rival's theme.

As someone who is basically a fan of fighting games and RPGs; 2023 was a damn feast. I'm excited to see where SF6 goes from here; and am hopeful season 2 of its DLC can have some Third Strike rep (Makoto please and thank you). Also; yes DNF is a damn good game, and deserved way better support than it was given.

I loved Multiversus, the characters the, music, online, stages, focus on doubles, interactions, etc, to the point that I actually cheered when it won at The Game Awards 2022. I agree that it had issues, and I definitely blame WB for the beta going on forever, however I totally think this game did have a huge audience and it could have retained that for years if handled right. As an anecdote many friends and family I have who dont like fighting games, jumped on to play matches online and had a blast. At points it feels like I'm the last one on Earth, who has faith in Player 1st Games, but I am genuinely excited for it to come back.

this has quickly become one of my top 5 favorite yt channels. thorgi's voice and speech mannerisms are just very palatable to the ears, kind of has an 80's cartoon character vibe. plus the overall content is grade A stuff. I'm constantly impressed by the amount of cool lore and production history I never knew about from some of my favorite games. This years end overview of last years fighting game releases was another awesome surprise.

I mean it's not like they don't already reference the fact that Wade had those in that movie in the game.

"Your only Move is Hustle" is a Tool-Assisted Fighting Playground as it's own Game (kinda like TASes you see when P2 joins the fight in a fighting game TAS you see a Dance of a fight you see in a epic fighting anime or movie)

Am just glad GBVR is getting the redemption arc it needed, with more love and doing so great with its content, its fun, more addictive, and is the Street Fighter Alpha for the generation, heck it has a free version that is almost perfect, an a lot of people from other discord groups i know are also interest in it, more fighting games should try it to get more people their games, as for its DLC collab with 2B from Nier Automata, hey there is a Phantom Thief i like to see return to the world of GB as a guess character to this game..

Re: The other reason why Granblue Rising wasn't DLC is because the game had to be so severely remade from the ground up to accommodate rollback netcode (due to rollback requiring the groundwork to allow for state rollback). MK, back when they retroactively added rollback, had to sink millions into it. It was never going to be a profitable venture if it weren't a new game, so they either would have to take rollback as a loss leader or do the new game thing.

Hey Thorgi one thing i want to note about modded marvel as a marvel modder myself. We kinda do have arcade endings for modded characters but we use a basic one that calls back to winning as one of the secret characters from the older games as it is kind of a hassle to do so as there's many things we don't know about the engine. Outside of marvel i want to talk about idol showdown. Like you i don't know much about vtubers myself i just kinda wanted to play it as it seemed interesting and was free and I enjoyed it but i didn't know anything about what everyone's deal is until my girlfriend's brother who is a HUGE fan of vtubers told me little things that are referenced and I got enjoyment out of it even more than i already did

I played Breakers back in 2006 during my arcade emulator days. And even though you said that it's a good fighting game. Some people have still dismissed it as not wirth anyones time becuase it's just a Street Fighter clone. But it's a really good Street Fighter clone, and therefore is still worth anyone's time. I like it more than other more popular clones like the early Fatal Fury games.

Personally KOF XV is the only new fighting game I really got to engage with last year, but man some of those new characters are great, Shingo's my guy and Goenitz returning is really appreciated. I am curious what the future for this game is though, because on the one hand Hinako is a really weird pick to end the game with and they have said stuff like stay tuned for the exciting future of this game or whatever, but on the other hand they've gone radio silent aside from releasing the DLC music on streaming services (which is not a good sign) and it wouldn't surprise me if all their focus was on COTW, they're probably doing their best to get that game in a state they can show off for EVO Japan.

I still feel so bad about "DNF Duel". I wasn't good at it, as per usual, but I actually did have a decent amount of fun with it at the end of the day. I kind of wish I spent more time with it back when there was a larger player base since there's no way I'm learning anything playing against the remaining killers now. So hearing all the negativity surrounding the game and how almost nobody wants to give it the time of day is kinda sad to me. Heck, just two days ago, I was hanging out with someone who is heavily into "SF6" and were running sets with a friend of mine, and they just randomly started talking smack about "DNF Duel". Like, I get it, the neutral of the game with full screen moves and high damage is intimidating and very often frustrating but that's the beauty of it. We can have all kinds of fighting games with all kinds of styles, they don't have to all be so similar. Oh well, at the moment, I'm just trying to learn "Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising", in-between all the RPGs I've been playing anyway. Don't really care about 2B, her random inclusions in everything has lost its luster for me but whatever, still neat. But yeah, I don't know if they'd necessarily count but I found 2023 to be a good year for arcade ports. I follow a bunch of JP arcade upload channels and there's been some good stuff there. From some things just getting ports to more modern arcade boards like "Daemon Bride". But also out of nowhere revivals like "Axel City 2" and "Dynamite Bomb". Like damn, I discovered those games through those new arcade ports and it's been really enjoyable seeing what they are all about. Oh, and of course "AH3 Xtend" finally got a proper arcade release. Not a fan of the new character art but whatever, still nice.

Abetter idea for a Fighting/Rhythm game, take inspiration from Sync animations. Each stage and/or character has a theme with notes on the bottom of the screen between the super meters. The combos can work on beat for simple combos but if you time your attacks with the rhythm of the song you get more benefits, such as maybe getting more Super Meter. Thunk like ULTRA COMBOS from KI. Every hit on rhythm adds to the music itself.

Great video, but I must make one correction to what you said: The MK1 Towers of Time rewards are actually less random than MK11. You just don't understand how they work. In MK11 we had the towers that would periodically change. So if you wanted a Kabal tower (other than the fixed character towers), you had to get lucky and happen to be in the game when it showed up. I personally never had an issue with this, but a lot of people complained about it, so it got changed. The way it works in MK1 is: you go to the Gateway Towers (which are also towers that change periodically and have various gimmicks, same as the ToT from the last game) except now they award you with Silver currency, which is used in the Seasonal Store to buy which skins and gear you want for whichever character you want. Also, the towers award rank XP and with each rank up, you get a reward for the specific character you are playing as. So you still get the same kind of rewards as the last game, except now you have direct control over what you get. The slot machine you are talking about was also in the last game, except there it would drop konsumables and crafting materials 90% of the time. My only issue with the slot machine is that you can only get one reward at a time and I have so much gold saved up, that each season I start out by drawing rewards until the game literally tells me it is out of rewards and that I should come back next season.

Honestly there's a lot to feel about that year of fighting game content. Getting to hop back on Granblue was great since I was missing out on the game's dlc characters cause I wasn't that into getting dlc for games past the time I could get season pass 1 for KoF15 so I could finally play characters I thought were cool like Yuel. The UMvC3 modding scene ever growing and expanding was my favorite part of the year as my campus was getting a small following of UMvC3 players with me pushing the game with how fun and cool it is but because I'm a console a player I finally got to play thanks to a pc player friend on campus so it felt like a dream come true getting to play characters like Venom, Monster Hunter, Batsu, Cyclops and Lilith in my favorite fighting game. Though my lowest point in the year goes back around to dlc topics which yeah we all are sick of but I'm one of the people that was still interested in the JoJo fighter ASBR but fell off when season pass 2 came out because again I wasn't interested in buying dlc at that time so in the rare chances I'd come back to it because there are some mechanics I like and I'm a big JoJo fan so sometimes I'd look at the character select screen and just feel bummed out purely because Leone sounds cool, Yuya has a vibe I can get with and WOU is a character that raises eyebrows for how they would implement him but I felt left out and then stopped playing until around my birthday in December where I decided to get the dlc and well it didn't really help since dlc characters don't come with unlockable content or anything for singleplayer fans and none of my friends really liked to play it and any jojo fans I know haven't even finished part 7 so I couldn't play it in front of them to avoid spoiling them. Its a bummer but hey I also got the dlc for my two favorite KoF characters that day Kim and Sylvie so I mostly played KoF and instead feel more invigorated for playing 15 and at my local arcade any of the past games people are running.
