In this video, we follow the men of the Rhodesian SAS as they fight in the bush during the 1970s in Rhodesia. SAS: Ambush Rhodesia is an intimate and powerful account of military courage in the face of great danger. Through the stories of real SAS soldiers, the video explores the depths of human fear and the heights of human courage. We follow the unit as they fight against rebel forces in what is now Zimbabwe, revealing the heroism and sacrifices of these soldiers as they defend their country against all odds.
Ian Mackenzie a Rhodesian Special Air Service (SAS) operative shares what it was like to participate in operations behind enemy lines. Ian goes into detail about one particular operation where they would lie in an ambush position for more than ten days waiting for a road convoy. Ian provides a passionate account of his experience. This is a captivating story about fear and courage and of being in combat.

I am so addicted to this channel and the brave men & women of Rhodesia who readily stood up to be counted when the world turned against them and they fought to protect every inch of land their fathers & grandfathers toiled and suffered to turn into a home. I have personal feelings about Rhodesia as my father died there when I was just a baby back in England. I love the Island I live on, but the only shame I can feel for my country's history is how it turned it's back on and betrayed all those Rhodesian's and left them to the fate of a murderous dictator.

My story is similar to yours, my father died there, when I was 7 years of age, and we had to come back to England.

12min, railway line, Maputo to Tete, TOTALLY INCORRECT! The line from Maputo goes north to Rhodesia only, through Gaza Province. The railway line to Tete comes from Beira. There is no line between Maputo & Beira.

It's quite mind boggling that while the special units were doing the externals.....so were some of the NS guys in the Indep Companies being used also.
@Toncor12
@Toncor12 Жыл бұрын
The NS guys were trained by the cream of the Regular army and as a result the standard of NS troops wad very high and performed very well under Regular officers. In fact 1 Indep under Don Price was likened by many to being a 4th RLI commando.

The recent chat with Darryl Watt indicated all of our codes were broken by the Brits in a matter of hours.

Tony knowing what a traitor Ken Flowers was, l wouldn't be surprised if the snake wasn't passing our codes onto the Brits. Certainly easier than having to break them. We were taught to keep our comms down to a max of 90 seconds. Once we were in OP position l would encode our locstat to company base & that was it. If we saw nothing then our sitrep would be NTR (nothing to report) & that would be our only transmission for the day. Obviously if the enemy was spotted then this would be relayed to base & then there would be far more radio traffic. But often in our 6 day OP there would only be 6 transmissions in total

@@calummackenzie1797 yes Flower was a bastard. I agree with frequency of comms. One late arvie for locstat in shackle and one early am for NTR.

I don't think the Shackle code was that good. British Army system was similar and completely revised the system in 83-84. The new system was a lot better, but honestly, even that wouldn't last 24 hours.

I believe a lot of South African Special Forces were seconded to the SAS wearing the same camouflage as the SAS. The South African Paratroopers were also in Rhodesia and going on Fireforce missions.

Yes Hennie. In the SAS they were known as D Squadron, not sure what the Parabats were called, but they were used in the south of Rhodesia as Fireforce & as Jumbo Fireforces. There are l think 2 episodes of Fighting Men of Rhodesia with the Parabats talking about their experiences. Dankie Suid Afrika

To Clarify, 1 Recce worked with SAS as D Sqn, based in Mabalahuta,SE corner of Rhodesia, into Gaza Province Mozambique. The parabat fire force, mid 1979, operated out of Gwanda as Fireforce Golf.
