He tricked the guards during his detention to believe he was a son of Winston Churchill, and so was treated in relative luxury as a prisoner of high importance. Later on in his life he was known to throw his suitcase out the window of the train on the way home from work. Someone eventually asked him why, and he explained that he was throwing it into his backyard so he didn't have to carry it from the station. A true English eccentric.

Members of my family would say that was just being lazy .... like me wanting a back door so I don' have to walk through the house, out the front door, around the house, just to get to the back yard to hang laundry .... but I think that was bloody genius.

@@TheAndroia. I wouldn’t call it “bloody genius”, because it’s just “common sense” really, although that’s a misnomer, because it’s obviously not that common, otherwise Bozo the clownish tyrant and Donald Jessica tRump💨 wouldn’t have got anywhere near to their positions of(so called) leadership, if it was truly common, would they.?.?.?.?.?.

Zambie Slaya2016 Jesus, if he was even real, was just a man born out of wedlock who’s mother clearly had an affair and claimed then immaculate conception by god and due to the fact that everyone was stupid and feared non existent beings called god or allah etc etc they all believed it. Mary then had to keep up the pretence and convince Jesus he was the son of god. Stop believing fairytale books, which is what the bible, Quran etc all are and start reading up on Science since it is science that has provided the wonderful advancements of man and dragged us out of those religious dark ages. Jesus isn’t god and god doesn’t exist, neither does allah and no other mythical god.

Faithful warrior, or stuck on stubborn you make the call. I can remember this story when it first unfolded, the locals had long been aware of his presence, and considered him little more than a common thief. It is the type of attitude displayed here that led to entire garrisons being wiped out to the man. It would have been nice if there had been more survivors of the island occupations to give account.

Actually this video is incorrect, Jack Churchill was not the only soldier to carry a sword into battle in WW2.The German Major-General Ernst-Gunter Baade, also carried a claymore and dressed in a kilt to battle in North Africa.Baade was the German armies maverick General, but highly competent, as he proved with his assault on Bir Hacheim, and his leadership of the 90th Panzergrenadier Division.Sadly Baade died on the last day of the war, whilst on the run after shooting an SS officer, his car was strafed and he died of wounds in hospital.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst-G%C3%BCnther_Baade

Interesting fact from wikipedia.org: "In late April 1945 Churchill and about 140 other prominent concentration camp inmates were transferred to Tyrol, guarded by SS troops.[22]. A delegation of prisoners told senior German army officers they feared they would be executed. A German army unit commanded by Captain Wichard von Alvensleben moved in to protect the prisoners. Outnumbered, the SS guards moved out, leaving the prisoners behind.[22] The prisoners were released and after the departure of the Germans, Churchill walked 150 kilometres (93 mi) to Verona, Italy, where he met an American armoured force.[11]"
