Shane I used to hang 3 tennis balls at different heights from the ceiling. Its very difficult to strike the balls but it improves your flinch reflex and counter reaction punch/kick/knee accuracy. You really have to use your peripheral vision and it keeps your defece tight because the balls swing back at you and they hurt if you hit them hard. You can duck, weave and strike hard. You need to be quick and co-ordinated - give it a try. I never saw this before - its just something i thought up many years ago and it really helped my striking accuracy, counter moves and defence.
@moonsmonsters4 жыл бұрын
What were the heights and distances
@general384 жыл бұрын
One ball just below chin height. The other ball at chest height. The other ball around stomach height. The roof should be around 2.5 to 3.5 meters. If the roof is high, the balls will be too slow. Position them in a triangle with about one meter between them. You can adjust the positions on how you see fit. To make them i used curtain cord (plastic coated springy cord) and i used a dynabolt END (springy wingnut) and would screw the curtain rod eyelet through the dynabolt hole, into the curtain rod. I would drill a 10mm hole in the tennis ball and push the dynabolt through the hole untill it sprung open. It will stay secured in this way and all up the project only costs around 10 dollars. Start to strike one ball, duck and weave and then strike another through your peripheral vision. When you strike the ball hard with your knuckles the ball accelerates quickly, will hit the roof and bounce back hard. Its like someone throwing a punch at you (i even got a black eye once). Use the lower balls for kicking, knees and the high ball for head strikes/elbows. You will get used to it after a few hours - its really challenging. Watch out for any lights as the ball will fly up to the celing.

I do this with a react ball. when it rebounds off the wall to the right I catch with the left and vice versa. That way their is an element of fast decision making aswell as reflexes and reaction time. Catching this way also has the practical effect of throwing cross punches
@TheCivilNegro092 ай бұрын

If you could do this with a misshapen ball, all the better. What can start to happen is you actually get better at the throwing aspect. Meaning you get better at throwing/hitting the ball in such a way that it comes back to you. You can end up getting more used to throwing the ball in such a way that it will come right back to you than actually developing the eyes needed to see a random punch coming. It's kinda like those punching bags with the spinning padded bar on top. People need to be careful they aren't just getting used to the specific trajectory of the spinning bar and end up getting caught in a real fight with punches coming from different/random angles.
@tippyperez4 жыл бұрын

I've been using a tennis ball for boxing for a long time now just trying to catch it with the same footwork and form as boxing (if that description makes sense) and using knees to keep it up and I believe it can help people who need to relax and clinch their fist on impact. As long as they retract back to the head.

Why just a tennis ball? start with a volley ball and get smaller, to teniss ball, to small black rubber ball, maybe more than one!! if you can see a ping pong ball sized jet black rubber ball coming at you, you are a long ways towards seeing a glove coning at you.

You'll be able to improve your physical attributes (speed, balance, endurance, etc.) but you're obviously limited with how much your actual boxing will improve. You need that adversity of having someone stand in front of you, trying to hit you (like in a fight). Partner drills/sparring are the best ways of improving, where these solo drills are all supplemental.

How new are you to boxing? What you're (probably) hearing is the bubbles in your body popping, similar to when you crack your knuckles. It starts to go away when you've become a regular at boxing. On the other hand, you might also have a broken bone somewhere. If the popping hurts, obviously go see a doctor.
