Great tutorial. It was great that you corrected your procedures, because many first time do it your selfer’s would follow you literally word for word. Nice walkthrough.

This is an easy task but I always watch the videos before I do them because most of the time there is some special little tool or hidden bolt that I wouldn't ever know about or find lol. thanks

Thanks for the video .. Althought, I might warn you that U R using the wrong coolant. See Ford choose ( Yellow or Gold) coolant for their focus engines up to 2011. it is an « OAT » coolant for ( ORGANIC, Acid Technology ) . What U R using is « Green » an « IAT » ( Inorganic Acid Technology) Therefore, your seals and everything that gets in contact with it will not not reat like intialy intented. Keep in mind that it will even deteriorate your seals ... and other parts that get it contact with it .. ! .. if you want to keep a car for a Long Time here's 5 Simple Tips : Use the Right Coolant, The Right Oil Grade , ( OEM Oil filters) , OEM Spark Plugs and the right Tranny oil that is Fully Approuved by The Manufacturer and not those who says ( compatible with) ..;) .. Simple as That .. the difference, between a 376,000km Ford Focus and a 193,000km one .. ;) I've worked at Ford's and i still drive a 2009 focus Today .. ;)

I am just now trying to do a coolant flush on a 2008 ford focus but the coolant overflow reservoir does not drain, only the radiator drains.....do you know why and how to solve this issue?
@landdon2410 жыл бұрын
cool video. I will do this for all my cars. I'm sure the same procedure can be followed for a Toyota Sienna.

Don Land Yeah should work for most vehicles. However it is always a good idea to check the service information for your vehicle. I usually tell people to check their local library website for free car info. Lots of libraries usually have free automotive online resources available. Usually just need a library card number to look up the info. Well thanks for the comment, and good luck if you do decide to flush your coolant system. Have a nice day.

So you drained with water a few times , so there is nothing but plain water in the system , then you do a final drain of a the rad which means that some water will still be in the block. My question is by just filling up with 50/50 this will leave you with a less than 50/50 mix once the remaining water mixes in ? So you are left with a less than 50/50 concentration ? Have I missed something ?

This is true but it's so minimal that it doesn't matter. Chrisfix also has a video on this and says the same thing.

On the 99-04, The drain plug has a big X on it & you use a big flat head screw driver to remove it. At least I do & I prefer it because with a plastic screw, one risks cross threading the drain plug using a socket wrench. I have a major cooling issue on my fucus! every part is new on my car, Every part! I replaced the cht sensor, the cooling fan resistor & wiring harness & the cooling fans & relays & yet still, my fans do not cycle! I am lost!!! new water pump, thermostate & thermostat housing, new serpentine belt & tensioner amongst Many other new parts! I have had to splice n2 one of the cht -cylinder head temp sensor wires & connected a toggle switch to manually operate my fans, Rather then disconnecting the cht sensor & letting the fans run constantly, frying the alternator after several months, so, I prefer the toggle switch until I figure out how to REALLY FIX THIS ISSUE!!!

Needs to mention these car are really challenging to burp the system. no water contact w/ thermostat u get no heat.

changed the thermostat housing and lower resovoir hose gurgles air. how do u properly remove the air from system?
@figibloom8 жыл бұрын
+egallardo0294 Well there are a few things to try to get air out of a coolant system. The best way, I think is with a special tool that hooks up to an air compressor (some use a vacuum pump) and creates a venturi effect which pulls the coolant system in a vacuum and removes all air from the system, and once the coolant system is in a vacuum then they close off the vacuum source and open another valve which sucks coolant into the system. That is by far the best method I think. This is what most shops use. You can find this tool online for $50-$100 Doing this at home with out the special tool you can try running a cool engine (do not do this with the engine hot) for a little bit with the cap on the reservoir off for a few minutes at a time, you are trying to circulate the coolant and push air out. Having the cap off should help burp any air bubbles. Of course there are some issues with running an engine with the coolant cap off. The main thing is the coolant system can not build pressure and that lowers the boiling point of the coolant system (so that is something to be careful doing) You can attempt to do this to get bubbles out, just be careful to not get burned by hot coolant. Another thing you can try is driving the car until the car heats up, opens the thermostat, fans kick on, and the coolant circulates. Then let everything cool down and sit for a few hours, and open the cap, check level, and add coolant to keep the level up, and repeat this a few times to try to get any air out. Another thing to try is draining and refilling the system, I have seen online that some people say to jack up the front end when filling (I am not sure if that helps or not) Also there are a few videos on youtube that show how to bled a coolant system. Some show vacuum tools, homemade tools, and other ways to get the job done. Well I hope this info helps you out. Thanks for the comment and have a good day. Good luck to you.

Depends on what year focus but, I have a 03 focus dohc zetec vin-3 & the thermostat housing has a bleed hose & the reservoir has one as well, as long as you don't overflow the reservoir, I would imagine it would bleed on it's own.
@islandbeaches3954 жыл бұрын
Why you did not remove the thermostat from the housing and the upper hose to flush the system out with a garden hose? I suggest you buy a Haynes repair manual. Important always used the genuine fluid recommend in the owner's manual.

Ive got an 03 focus, what socket size is it again in metric or sae?
@figibloom8 жыл бұрын
+TSWShadowz If you are talking about the drain plug, I believe it was a 19mm or 3/4" I think both should work. That is what it was on the 05 not sure if it is the same on an 03. Well thanks for the comment and have a good day.

not sure but most ford recommend the other coolant because of aluminum water pump
@figibloom9 жыл бұрын
+Mo Mon Ford does recommend to use the Motorcraft brand of coolant. I would agree that it is probably better to use the coolant that Ford suggests and you cant go wrong. I just decided to go with a Universal coolant. (something I would not do if my vehicle was still under warranty) You can go to prestone.com and check out what they have to say about it if you want. It says the coolant I used is safe for use on all makes and models. However, I do know there are a lot of different types of coolant, so the risk of cross contamination is a possibility. If you are unsure go with what the manufacture recommends and you cant go wrong. Well thanks for the comment and have a good day.

forget about the bolt, mechanics don't use that(they're plastic and break easily), they unplug the bottom hose; less problems that way..
